JESUS CHRIST!!!!!

Really? You're kidding? I thought that 100,000 stories per day about a movie was par for the course.

Yes, Jesus got the shiat beat out of him. Mel Gibson is capitalizing on it. Some people are going to see the movie out of a love of film. Some people are going to see the movie to strengthen their faith. And still other dildos are going to make fun of the Christians there. This passes for news in our country. We are a sad people.

(Although it is amusing to see the Catholic-hating Southern Baptist fundies fellating Mel Gibson over this. I kind of like that.)

I haven't seen this much hype around a movie since James Cameron sank the Titantic. I haven't seen The Passion yet, but I just can't imagine that it is as bad as Titantic. And if I ever hear Celine Dion sing that song again, I'm going to start crucifying people.

2004-03-03 02:46:29 PM
The what? Passion? Never heard of it

- but then I don't usually pay attention to those 'sex' movies.

The old media standby of reporting on the media.

And Mel Gibson is laughing all the way to the bank.

The MONEY bank.

If the media wasn't run by the Jews who are afraid of the anti-Semitism that this movie won't drum up, then this wouldn't be such a big deal.
Or, maybe Gibson is pulling the strings on all of this himself, getting the anti-Semite meme running to get the press. It'd make sense, since he's already made $80 million on the movie.

Irony..the one unforgivable sin.

I mean, I like fantasy films based on ancient mythology as much as the next farker. But this is just a pointless snuff film.

/really....c'mon! No. You come on!

I was walking around in my University's student center today, and there was a huge cluster fark of Jesus people there. There was a huge poster that read "PASSION FOR CHRIST", a Christian band playing Christian music, people advertising churches and bible study et cetera, and people selling religious apparel. I know this is Georgia and all, but I was like "Huh?"

2004-03-03 02:57:04 PM
"You will take from The Passion nothing more than what you bring in the door with you."

I like this statement and whole-heartedly agree. This is not a film for those without faith. It is for those who have faith.

a Christian band playing Christian music

like Deans YEAGGGHHHHHH!, yes they over reported/replayed it. and we will continue to define irony.

2004-03-03 02:57:41 PM
Some people think the movie is real. Really. I keep hearing how the movie "proves" stuff. WTF? How?

They don't seem to realize that that guy on the cross was fine. After filming, he got down and took a shower, jumped in a car and went home.

It's funny or pathetic, I can't choose.

Can someone tell me, does Creed still suck?

2004-03-03 02:59:57 PM
Hmm. Over-reported and over-rated. Naturally, Jesus, his mum, and Mary Magdalene come off as the only "good" people in the film, while Gibson portrays everybody else as either subhuman, barbaric, or outright demonic. And people call me misanthropic.

2004-03-03 03:00:03 PM
Mel Gibson was in other stuff besides Mad Max and Braveheart?

Yes.

"You will take from The Passion nothing more than what you bring in the door with you."

I like this statement and whole heartedly agree. This is not a film for those who like creativity. It it for those who like to watch dead horses get beaten.

Programmer Cat

no... the disciples do not come off as subhuman or barbaric. Neither does the guy who helps Jesus carry the cross. Neither do a whole crowd of people who witness the crucifixion. Oh, wait...I sw the movie. Can I no talk about it?

You are right, in the sense that it's implied the viewer has a working knowledge of the gospels when they walk into the theater.
To be honest, it's a pretty exclusionary film. If you went to see LOTR without having read the books, it's okay. Jackson did a good job covering what you needed to know. The Passion, however..not so much.

Can someone tell me, does Creed still suck?

Yes. Creed still sucks. As does Payable On Death, Evanescence, and Stryper. Spock's Beard is OK, though; they've got a kick-ass keyboardist.

any Farker seen it yet?

Shouldn't this have the [OBVIOUS] tag?

/Christian who won't be watching the rated "R" movie (or any R movies, for that fact)

2004-03-03 03:03:08 PM
So you have Saudi Arabia declaring that Jews are not even allowed to enter their country, dozens of synagogues being burned down in France, literally the worst worldwide antisemitism since the rise of the Nazis...and people are upset about a movie based directly on the Bible (fiction or not) that shows some Jews and Romans killing Jesus?

I'm about to have a Lewis Black style spaz-out here...

It'd be like someone complaining about naming a team the Washington Redskins while marching on the Trail of Tears. I mean, CHRIST ON A STICK WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

/so sick of hearing about this movie

2004-03-03 03:03:13 PM

I thought the movie was okay, but I didn't like the ending that Gibson changed it to.

I saw it too. Being faithless, I probably missed the point and saw nothing but an explicit depiction of suffering for the the sake of depicting suffering.

Titanic won eleven Oscars, and deserved every one of them, plus the other three it didn't win, IMHO. I should know, I've seen in on numerous occasions. I suppose I can see what you mean about that song, though.

As for The Passion Of The Christ (not just any Christ, but the Christ), I haven't seen it, so I can't make any claims as to whether it is worthy of all the hype it's been receiving (my guess would be no). When it comes out on video, I might rent it.

2004-03-03 03:04:28 PM
I read that as Christ is over-rated....

2004-03-03 03:04:52 PM
I'm not into religion at all but I went to see this movie anyway, out of curiosity.

I have to agree with Sweater Girl. I thought the movie was pretty good.

Also, I'm inwardly delighted that this movie has been such an unbelievable success. It seemed like so many people in Hollywood were trying to sabotage it. And Gibson, against all odds, came out winnning.

I like stories about winning...
