2004-03-02 02:45:31 PM
NOOOO! DAMN IT! Why can't you NASA people work faster!?!?? There were SHRIMP on the line! Priorities, man!

Now the only way to get free shrimp for all of humanity will be if NASA finds a Long John Silvers on Mars.

2004-03-02 02:45:36 PM

2004-03-02 02:46:58 PM
The wet resource.

2004-03-02 02:46:58 PM
Ya gotta wonder how many NASA geeks own stock in Long John Silvers.

2004-03-02 02:47:11 PM
From the article:

"We think we've found enough evidence at the Opportunity site that liquid water was in abundance for some period of time," said Benton Clark III, a Mars Exploration Rover (MER) team member, in a telephone interview prior to the press conference.

Did you or didn't you?

2004-03-02 02:47:20 PM
I can't believe the networks spent 5 minutes on something interesting and thought-provoking like this, but they'll spend 25 mins on showing us shots of Michael Jackson's plane taxiing in to the airport.

2004-03-02 02:47:25 PM
Now what?

2004-03-02 02:47:26 PM
woo hoo. we have once again found more evidence there was water on mars.

nothing to see here. move along.

feh

2004-03-02 02:47:29 PM
Just go to CNN.com.. they have a story.

2004-03-02 02:47:47 PM

Once again my news link has bee overlooked because of a BS headline ARUGHHHH!

2004-03-02 02:49:10 PM

2004-03-02 02:49:12 PM
Because no one likes you, peacefulwarrior. Not to mention, it had nothing to do with the story. Remember, there are no prizes for being the first person to post.

2004-03-02 02:50:12 PM
What they failed to report is that the water was there as
recently as yesterday - Something mighty big drank that
water.

Probe goes into wasteland
Mars monster in wasteland
our Mars Monster.

2004-03-02 02:50:17 PM
Oh its the Capricorn Shrimp Fiasco!!!
At least the water on Mars stuff is real /hoping.../

2004-03-02 02:50:45 PM
peacefulwarrior
I saw your comment and if I remember correctly, it said "hi".

When mods see that much wit so early in a thread, they delete it so that others won't feel too inferior and refrain from entering their own comments.

2004-03-02 02:51:17 PM
I feel robbed... bet NASA eats free shrimp from Long John Silver's ad infinitum

First Mir missed the Taco Bell bullseye, and now this...

*hungry

2004-03-02 02:51:18 PM
I posted this in another thread...

Apparently the martian soil the rovers are running over is some kind of briny mud. It's got water in it, but it also has enough salt to keep the water from freezing even at martian temperatures.

Mars is a salty chocolate ball.

2004-03-02 02:51:23 PM

"Open your mind! There is no water here!"

2004-03-02 02:51:31 PM
obligatory:

"Oh, goody! Goody!"

2004-03-02 02:51:49 PM
Decius is right. Clearly members of our government have their hand in Long John Silver's trough.

2004-03-02 02:52:07 PM

""We think we've found enough evidence at the Opportunity site that liquid water was in abundance for some period of time," said Benton Clark III, a Mars Exploration Rover (MER) team member, in a telephone interview prior to the press conference."

They blinded me ... with SCIENCE !

2004-03-02 02:52:14 PM
That headline sucked the life out of me.

I expect better from the Fark Nerdocracy

2004-03-02 02:52:49 PM

"See? I told ya so!!!"

2004-03-02 02:52:53 PM
I was sooooo hoping that they would tell us that something was alive.

Drat.

2004-03-02 02:52:54 PM
Does anyone else find the phrase "now THAT'S the $64,000 question" ironical, like? Can you say "bid-rigging?"

2004-03-02 02:52:54 PM
Shrimp = giant sea insect

They'd have to pay me to eat one. As for water on Mars, did anyone really doubt this? Also, I will hereby refer to water as a "wet resource".

2004-03-02 02:53:08 PM
Spirit, Opportunity...activate the reactor.

2004-03-02 02:53:11 PM

Scientists have long known that Mars was warmer and wet in ancient times. Few disagree that running water carved many of the huge canyons and other gullies and river-bed features seen in countless photographs of the red planet. Significant amounts of water ice also sit frozen at both of Mars' poles.

so really, we haven't discovered anything yet.

hey, how about you hold off on having press conferences until you find out something new.

2004-03-02 02:53:19 PM

2004-03-02 02:53:25 PM
All you whining about LJS remember, God Hates Shrimp.

2004-03-02 02:53:31 PM
To Wesley Clark!

King of Mars!

2004-03-02 02:54:02 PM
The offer expired on the 29th. That is awfully convenient. Someone pass me a foil hat.

2004-03-02 02:54:07 PM
I am organizing a class action lawsuit against NASA for sitting on this information, thus costing all of America its free shrimp. Who's with me?

2004-03-02 02:55:25 PM
If there is water....it can be extracted.

Launch NOW!!!!

2004-03-02 02:55:57 PM

Drat!

2004-03-02 02:56:09 PM
Well, I for one am happy about the announcement, but really unimpressed with the headline.

Mine: "It's official - Mars had more water than a Dasani plant"

2004-03-02 02:56:22 PM
If there is no free shrimp involved then why should we care that there was water on Mars?
