"Hero"? More like "Plug."

2001-12-14 05:16:10 PM
Hey, give the guy a break and don't assume that everyone has some ulterior motive. This guy knows about being in the military and I think he honestly wants to help, so don't be an asshole.

Cynicism should be used sparingly.

2001-12-14 05:17:27 PM
Yea, read his story on the front page. I can relate to it, too. The military doesn't exactly make one wealthy (at least not enlisted personnel... officers on the other hand...)
It may be a plug, but it seems to be rather noble.

2001-12-14 05:21:53 PM
SavMan: There's not enough cynicism. Sorry we don't agree.

Dahaka: I read it. I don't care.

I vote for "hero". This is hardly a plug, it's not as if he's trying to get the money for himself. Take a look at military pay chart:

http://www.dfas.mil/money/milpay/pay/07-2001.pdf

They're not exactly getting rich.

Ernie rocks!

and look at this NSFW picture that ernie added to entice you to donate.

Thermos, you've won me over.

figured that would put you in the christmas spirit

2001-12-14 05:35:25 PM
Sorry, but my "SCAM" meter is running in the red:
Every military personnel has full access to hop on any plane going anywhere, free of charge, or at greatly reduced cost (like $40).

Last I checked, there are plenty of planes going back and forth, and last I checked, they're all military hops. Do you think Delta or Southwest has a flight to Kandahar or Camp Rhino?

2001-12-14 05:36:26 PM
G0dzilla: Do you think Delta or Southwest has a flight to Kandahar or Camp Rhino?

good point GOdzilla

2001-12-14 05:37:09 PM
damn, some of these boobies shots are pretty skank...

2001-12-14 05:39:51 PM
okay-- i'm the asshole.
i forgot about domestic pukes (I was one of them) who don't readily get access to flights.

2001-12-14 05:46:42 PM
Well can't you hitch a ride on a C-130?

2001-12-14 05:51:55 PM
Yes you are an asshole.

Military hops work like this,

Sign up for a flight waiting list.

Wait.

Take any flight that might get you kinda close to your destination.

Get stranded in bumfvck Egypt for 4 days trying to get another hop that might get you closer to home.

Finally give up and buy a ticket for a commercial airliner.

Enjoy the last 3 days remaining on your leave time because it took you 7 days of screwing around with a military hop.

fark you if you can't find it in your heart to drop a buck towards getting some underpaid private a ride home for the holidays.

2001-12-14 05:52:44 PM
if this is for real, it's farking cool.

hero

2001-12-14 05:55:54 PM
ah.

2001-12-14 05:56:13 PM
Really, WHO THE FARK CARES about if they have access to a MAC flight or not?!? He's asking for a donation for a cause that is worthy - our servicemen/women deserve our respect. They may or may not be able to hop on a cramped and drafty C130 - but would YOU want to? Don't donate if you feel they don't deserve a red cent out of your pocket, but as for me - I respect his motivation. 'Nuff said.

I was just kinda surprised to learn that Ernie was in the military. His (admirable) Gung-Ho attitude aside, I kinda thought he was just a really creative teenager.

2001-12-14 06:04:34 PM
Definitely a hero. How would you like to be stranded on the other side of the country as your family for the holidays, just because you can't afford a plane ride home?

2001-12-14 06:05:23 PM
For an exercise in self-abuse (I was just clicking through the gallery, by the way):

Go to their photos section.

Find the photo titled Marymotherofjesus.jpg

Be scarred for life.

2001-12-14 06:15:50 PM
This is definitely real...Ive been reading EHOWA alot longer than Ive been reading FARK....Ernie kicks ass..this is the kind of stuff he does for the military. He offered up his prized truck for Osama's head, now that is farking cool. [HERO] definitely applies.

2001-12-14 06:19:36 PM
I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but...
Military personnel can take flights for free, yes... how many military aircraft fly to your house though? There is still the problem of getting to and from the base for your flight.
On top of that, it goes in order of rank. If you are a lowly enlisted soldier chances are not good of getting a flight home, especially around this time of the year. If you somehow manage to get back to the states with military flights you will probably need at least one civilian flight to bring you closer to your home and then have someone pick you up from there.
It's one of those 'enticements' the military uses to get you to sign up, but you don't hear about all the 'catches' until after you are in. Similar to the bonuses. I forget exactly how they worked this, but one of my officers while I was in was explaining how they managed to double-tax your bonuses. You don't get nearly as much as they make it look like. Working for the [US] government is one of the largest scams around.

2001-12-14 06:20:07 PM
Oh yeah? Prize truck, eh? Woo.

Look, I don't care that Ernie is doing whatever with his site. I just think "hero" is overdoing it. If you're plugging a site, whether it's your site or not, it's a plug.

Not a firefighter, folks.

Alright, I'm done. I'm off to drink more.

2001-12-14 06:23:25 PM
Heck, can we honestly say this is anything but a good cause? Just shut up and toss some into the collection plate.

I mean, heck. So I lose $20 beer money. I'm in college; I'll borrow some from the RA!

2001-12-14 06:25:24 PM
I have never seen so many boobies in one place

A true hero deserving our support

Nice thought. (Really, i'm all fuzzy inside..) ..just not very well thought-out.

2001-12-14 06:41:17 PM
I've been a member of ehowa almost as long as I've been a member of fark (I'm in the top 100 farkers).

This guy is more patriotic than anyone I've ever met, period. This is not a plug, more than likely some viewer of his page posted it.

I view ehowa almost as much as I do fark.

2001-12-14 06:41:19 PM
Also, I believe that the guys over there are getting Hazard pay AND not paying taxes in a combat zone.

Evil Homer: Holy crap! You could fit a damn grapefruit in there

I'm not even American (I'm Canadian)...but I gave 'em $10 anyway. Great idea, I say.

Looks like pretty good pay to me, I mean with 4 yrs of experience and you can be making over 6 grand a month, 72,000$ a year. They don't don't make the biggest salary there is, but hey they ain't exactly homeless(no offence to homeless, but they won't read this anyway) now are they.

2001-12-14 07:52:20 PM
6 grand a month? lol, you obviously know NOTHING about the military. An enlisted person is generally an E-4 after 4 years (I got lucky and got my 5 after 3 years). So an E-4 with 4 years of experience makes $1576.20 a month. Take home is probably $1200. Yea, real rich.

2001-12-14 08:05:45 PM
ernie's the man, anyways, it's not like his site exactly needs traffic, this is for real

2001-12-14 08:06:29 PM
I might not know much about the pay, but i'm a mean sniper, and i know how to read a farking chart. And yes it say's so on the chart in one of category's. I guess you went into the wrong divison, HAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

2001-12-14 08:06:47 PM
"Hero"? More like "Plug."

No way, Ernie is cool and he gets plenty of traffic on his own. He doesn't need plugs. This is just something cool that he's doing for the military. Go Ernie

2001-12-14 08:19:44 PM
farkstick....i mean ats36. if you think you can be an 0-4 with only 4 years in, then be my guest and join the military. nevermind that a college degree is required, something you obviously do not have.

2001-12-14 08:35:26 PM
Actually i'm a computer nerd, lol. I do have a programmer analyst networking degree, Java 2 Certified Programmer, IBM VisualAge for Java Certified, IBM Websphere Certified. So fark you moron asshole, i'll make more than you in 3 years after starting than your salary will ever rise.

2001-12-14 08:44:54 PM
lol...all that knowledge and NO common sense. btw, i'm not in the military anymore and i'm in IT also. one big difference though....I'm not a farkin nerd.

2001-12-14 09:02:41 PM
As I write this, I am going to say I didn't read the whole thread, just the first few posts

Screw you guys. First of all, Ernie Clause has done his time in the military. To think that this is a ploy for him to promote his website, or scam people for money is simply stupid. I am in the military, and while we do get discounts on airfare, it certainly costs me more than 40 farking dollars to fly home. Some people really can't afford to go home and see their families over the holidays.

If I didn't have to worry about paying bills and seeing my family myself, I'd gladly give my whole farking paycheck this month. For you to call this a scam and say this is just a plug is nothing but a load of shiat.

fark you very much,

Derrick "puke" E3 also

2001-12-14 09:04:35 PM
and by the way, while I didn't give my paycheck, I gave enough of it to matter.

2001-12-14 09:38:42 PM
Hey, ATS36, why don't you shut the fark up and continue jerking off to gay porn. Meanwhile, the men and women of the military who are willing to put their ass on the line will protect your right to do so. "I'm a mean sniper"? Rainbow Six doesn't count as combat experience, asshole!

2001-12-14 10:26:34 PM
Tks for taking the words out of my mouth, Mr. Orange - I served in 'Nam in the late '60s and trust me, the military doesn't pay diddley to enlisted personnel. If you don't trust Ernie, fine - that's your privelege - this flaming shiat isn't going to change your mind or mine, either way.

I'm going to donate - I remember what it was like not to be able to afford to get home for Christmas ('Nam notwithstanding). . .

2001-12-14 10:28:53 PM
Lusipher - the men and women over there are getting Hazard pay for a good reason. . .think about it. . .not having to pay taxes is not what I'd call tit for tat. . .

2001-12-14 11:37:57 PM
ATTENTION: all you cynical & tight ass bastards:

Quit your whining and grow a heart

If you have ever been a member of the military (I have not) or a student (I have) and been stuck away from home for long periods of time, then you know what it feels like, especially at Christmas, to be without family.

This is Christmas time for God's farken sake. It's a time to give and I don't think we should help Ernie send just one service man home. He has received four letters thus far and I think we should help make it possible that Ernie can send all 4 home.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Get out yer wallet and send Ernie $10 or $20
2. Tell 2 of you friends to send Ernie $10 or $20

Cmon, you'll survive with a few less beers this week and if your friends donate, you can all spend the evening at home watching the tube for a few hours.

2001-12-14 11:43:08 PM
Tks for the support, LazyA$$. . .

2001-12-15 12:02:25 AM
I've been there, still over here doing it, and in 5 days I'm gonna see my 3 kids for the first time in a year. I had to donate, due to all the birthdays, anniversarries, christmases, and other holidays I've missed, felt guilty I'm gonna be home this year for Christmas. Wish this had been around years ago when I was a poor E-nothin'.
Oh, and Fenderhead, I know it's probably too late, but thanks.

2001-12-15 12:47:39 AM
Ernie's a badass. Give a buck or $40.

2001-12-15 04:51:48 AM
I spent my time in the military. And it is a thankless job, let me tell you. Anything to help the guys out is just peachy by me.
And BTW Fenderhead, I was one of the people cheering for you guys in 1974.

***These Comments are my own and do not reflect those of the Departmment of Defense, the US Air Force, or the Air National Guard***

I'm a First Sergeant with the Air National Guard. Part of my job is ensuring that the enlisted force of an organization is cared for. I contacted Ernie because I thought I could sponsor an Airman wanting to get home for the holidays. Not only did he call me, he stated that donations are doing good, and if I had any people that needed airfare home to let him know.....That's right....he wanted to know if any of MY people needed help getting home. He left me his home phone and cell phone number.

THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE!!!

All of you people badmouthing Ernie, can KISS MY ASS!!!

This is a worthy cause. break out the wallet, and donate something!!!!

Merry Farking X-mas,

Shirt

P.S. Ernie, I'm going to consider you an honorary First Sgt!! I bet you never thought you'd be wearing the diamond!!
