yes swingbozo, your plate also proves the existence of god.

New finds confirm the events of the Old Testament

Shouldn't this be:

New finds confirm an event in the Old Testament?

Plates prove the existance of god, read your bible. Plates are the main gift of god to man. Without plates, we would have never discovered pie. And without pie, we never would have domesticated dogs. And without dogs, we wouldn't have plates.

This discovery brought to you by the 'mathematicians' who constructed a solid proof of how Moses parted the Red Sea.

I wonder if this'll affect the Box Office receipts for Mel Gibson's "The Passion of Christ"?

Anyone else going to see this movie this weekend? Its looking like a good Dinner/Movie date combo to me. Perfect for those first dates. Bring your own bible and cite scriptures during the trailers. That'll guarantee ya a hummer at the very least. I'd do it, but no one will go out with me.

as kookey as this sounds. There might really be some historical fact to the bible. No I'm not a Jesus nut but some of the things that have been recorded in the old testament, have came pretty close to what science can prove about early man kind.

2004-02-24 08:34:11 PM
well of course one thing proves the rest. Everything else in scripture is internally consistent and contingent. Just prove one fact and the rest is implied.
/so tired of people trying to prove matters of faith...

We had a discussion about this stuff in class today. The whole purpose of ancient mythologies was to explain what was then inexplicable, and there are countless examples of this (Greece, Native America, etc.) Now we have the scientific means to better understand these phenomena, and there is a lot of modern research for explaining Biblical events, like this and the Red Sea parting and the Flood. But you can look at it both ways. Either you're providing natural explanations for things attributed to God's miracles, thus suggesting that he doesn't exist, or you're explaining how God did things within the framework of science, suggesting that he does exist. Nobody's going to prove or disprove any faith, ever.

It is clear that we should begin to worship the makeup stick they found as the one true god.

Faith doesn't need proof; otherwise it wouldn't be faith, would it?

2004-02-24 08:57:38 PM
The problem with Fundamentalists is that they aren't any better at faith than they are at reason. If you're able to derive a workable scheme of ethics from your religion, that's great for you. Why resort to tortured logic in order to prove fairy tales are literally true?

At the risk of overstating the obvious, other articles from the same "news" site include:

"Alien Visits Russian Province"

"DaVinci: Angel or Antichrist"

"Russians Conquered Mars 30 Years Ago"

There never was glass and golden necklaces, bronze mirrors, alabaster vessels, an oil lamp, and a makeup stick.

Who could have found them?

And as far as Gibson's snuff movie goes, its target audience are the last people on Earth I want to spend two hours in a darkened theater with.

It would be interesting to me, though, to see how many parents haven't read the reviews and are bringing their little ones to the show expecting a Sunday School lesson instead of a display of Grand Guignol.

If many people read the full Bible (including the Apocrypha), it documents military victories (by the Jews) that can be or possibly have been proven to be true...but it is pretty interesting nonetheless. I thought it amazing how Moses got the exact time and date the Red Sea would part...hmmm...since it happens very rarely....

Did anyone rtfa..Where does it say that every one should start believeing in god.The article simply said that a dicovery was made that dated back to the time this shiat was supose to have happened in the old testiment, that's all.

it's not like anyone doubted that particular part of the OT anyway. The Babylonians and Persians documented their victories very well on large walls. You will find much of the OT proven by archaeological methods, except anything to do with God saying this or that and doing crap. (The plagues and stuff of Exodus can be attributed to natural catostrophic events as well).

About things being proven true...

Many many things have been proven true, but how many in the Bible have been proven false?

(Warning- I know the answer)

Shto ne novosty. Shto Fark!

And I know very little more Russian than that.

2004-02-24 10:12:59 PM
And exactly how is this surprising?

The Babylonian captivity was a historical fact, as are many events in the Bible. None of which has anything to do with the existence or non-existence of a god.

2004-02-24 10:32:25 PM
Too bad this is one of the Old Testament events that pretty much nobody disputes. It's attested all over the place. It's a cool archaeological find, but it doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know, except that the Russian news cycle is a little slow today.

2004-02-24 10:32:28 PM
Geez, get a little historical evidence to an ancient event and everyone starts bashing the Bible. How about people start researching history a bit more before throwing out dumbarse comments like "It's all made up." Oh yeah, and all the plagues happening to the Egyptians just a coincidence?
-Get a clue. Peace

Alot of the ancient empires in the bible existed but it does not mean that moses really talked to a burning bush!!!!!

Every ancient text in the world contains a grain of truth swirled into the mythology. It's just how ancient people experienced thier world at the time...

"omgz my ideas r in trubble I must now bash teh christians b4 dey t4ke over my mind!!1!1!1oneone"

A lot of things in the Bible have been proven to have happened including the fact that Jesus lived. Now whether you believe he was really the son of God, a prophet, or a just a radical is up to you but you have no right to call others names just because they don't agree with your beliefs. If your ideas are so shaky that you feel attacked or the need to attack any time another view is posed then you need to re-evaluate your faith (or lack of). Something I hear many atheists say is they hate Christians because they're always pushing their beliefs onto them. I see that a lot from atheists as well. It doesn't make me want to burn them all at the stake.

I personally have always been interested in this kind of stuff. Ways they scientifically explain occurences like the parting of the Red Sea and such. This story is actually old news.

Gee, I wonder if that statement has any merit to it? I don't hate X-tians. I just enjoy indulging in verbal jousting with them. They have the burden of proof!

Vanetia:

If you have proof of Jesus' existence, you should share them with scholars ASAP. Otherwise, I'm sorry to inform you, but there is none... We do, however, have a lot of evidence that suggests the Gospels are fiction.

Did Jesus exist?
