ummm... good job Brad Friedel.

but seriously though, Friedel couldn't do much else with that game winner.
2004-02-21 06:54:21 PM
He should do more Soccer practice with the water Polo team.
Or some track and field after wrestling.

Isn't that the guy who did the music for the first two Terminator movies?

(insert obligatory "why-is-soccer-on-an-american-site" line)

Anyway, it's good that he scored, being the keeper and all, but he quickly undid that by letting an a goal that won the game for Charlton..

Tim Howard is from North Brunswick, New Jersey in case anyone was wondering.

I had to read this twice. I thought it was about hockey at first.

Speaking of which, an NHL goalie scored last week (from his goal across the length of the ice - empty net).

A while ago, I was chatting online with someone from Britain who was laughing and mocking me as an American because our soccer team sucks so much. I don't think British people realize that we simply don't care. In fact, we agree. Our soccer players DO suck.

I don't know why I shared that story, but there you go.

2004-02-21 07:04:12 PM
Our soccer players don't suck, though, as some teams in the Premier League and the Champions League have discovered, to their benefit.

World Cup 2010: 21-year-old (20? 21?) Freddy Adu scores in 44th minute to give US 1-0 lead over Brazil in Grand Final. 30-year-old Tim Howard makes "how-did-he-do-that" save in second-half stoppage time to preserve the victory. President Kerry, on his second term, gives warm reception to world-conquering heroes at the White House.

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

/wishful thinking

ilyag: Man U, Blackburn, Tottenham, Man City, Everton, Fulham...all EPL clubs who know that American soccer players do NOT suck.

U.S. Men are ranked ahead of Germany in the FIFA world rankings..not that it counts for much, but interesting nonetheless.

Tim Howard plays for Manchester United in case anyone was wondering.

Why do you bring him up, FreddyCalhoun?

Just wanted to add that it took a second reading for me to figure out it was about soccer as well. And I'm from Europe.

I wonder if this means he will get killed? Or is that only in South America?

That was Mika Noronen from the Sabers, the 8th goalie to be credited with a goal. While he did get the credit for the goal,he actually did not score the goal. He was the last one on Buffalo to touch the puck before Robert Reichel from Toronto made a pass from behind the net that nobody picked up. The puck slid all the way down into his own net.
2004-02-21 07:23:57 PM
And he looked so happy. Kinda like a big bald monkey.

By the by, I hold a season ticket at Charlton Athletic. Go you Addicks!

2004-02-21 07:26:45 PM
I just brought it up b/c i thought it was irrelevant where friedel was, since no one was wondering, though harryhausen let us know.... and Tim Howard is the best American goalie and one of the best goalies in the world, imho...

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 - 1 Fulham

Tim Howard is overrated. Now that Rio Ferdinand is suspended, T. Ho is as exposed as Janet's right tit. Actually, Janet's right tit has more talent than he does.

Give it up to the Wolves, England's own Detroit Tigers. *salutes*

There is a person here angry that a English sport is being talked about, and then says he favors a Canadian sport, because this is America?

Don't know why I'm even bothering, since this thread quickly went off-topic, but to summarize:

For those who don't know much about soccer, Brad Friedel is an American goalie playing for the Blackburn Rovers of the English Premiership, one of the best soccer leagues in the world. Friedel was the U.S. goalie on the stellar 2002 World Cup team.

Tim Howard, another kick-ass American goalie, plays for perennial Premiership powerhouse Manchester United. Blackburn, on the other hand, sucks, for reasons that have very little to do with Brad Friedel.

Even moreso than hockey, in soccer it's not always the goalie's fault when a goal is scored. Oftentimes the defense is to blame; sometimes, no one is to blame. Fluke goals do happen. For this reason, the headline is a tad misleading, I think. I doubt Friedel is losing much sleep over this one.
2004-02-21 08:25:46 PM
Soccer is bad. Mmmkay.
2004-02-21 08:39:17 PM
Freddy Adu is only 14.

*Speaking of which, an NHL goalie scored last week (from his goal across the length of the ice - empty net).*

Well, he didn't actually shoot the puck the length of the ice...he was just the last player to touch it before it was shot in by the opossing team.

Freidel's Mom was my middle school gym teacher in case anyone was wondering.

Go Emerson!

Simulord I'm with you on that wishful thinking.
