Microsoft, simply, just doesn't get it ... do they ?

It is quite sad. what is even sadder is that people still buy their products.
2004-02-20 08:19:36 PM
No matter how much they upgrade the hardware, it doesn't change the fact that the games suck.
2004-02-20 09:04:02 PM
Actually, I am quite happy with my Xbox. Of course I don't own any Microsoft first-party titles, but the new Prince of Persia is awesome! Doesn't hurt that I got Splinter Cell for free with it, either.
2004-02-20 10:11:55 PM
I'll be the first to say it in this thread...

Halo f*cking sucked. It's for n00bs who never played half-life.
2004-02-20 10:12:52 PM
I for one welcome our new Xbox overlords.
2004-02-20 10:13:10 PM
Halo is the AAA for counter-strike.

I liked my XBox before the power supply pooped out.
2004-02-20 10:22:18 PM
I had the "pleasure" of meeting Bill Gates about ten years ass smart ass now any way you look at it he's still an ass
2004-02-20 10:22:27 PM
I've got a modded xbox which can emulate the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, mega drive, gameboy advance, arcade games, and Nintendo 64 games. I can also back up my games onto the hard drive and the best part of all - it can play divx movies burnt to a CD-R. =)

Most of the Xbox games are simply awful, but it has loads of other uses!
2004-02-20 10:24:11 PM
"Microsoft, simply, just doesn't get it ... do they ?"

What are you talking about? Could you give us some reference to your no doubt incredibly lucid reasoning for hating Microsoft's idea here.

The XBox is a very popular and successful gaming system, and the XBox Live has set the standard for services of its type.
2004-02-20 10:24:24 PM
not asinine....just geared toward preteens and parents with is not for farkers with more time then money......let it rest....cause we all know farkers have the opinions other dismiss

I'm not trying to start a console flame war, but PS2's method of handling online play seems to work better, which is to say that they don't "handle" it at all. They leave it up to each game company to determine. Xbox Live is kind of like .WMA files or any other proprietary software.
2004-02-20 10:26:42 PM
So is all online console gaming asinine?

Or are we just getting upity about 'the man' improving their online console gaming network?

2004-02-20 10:31:46 PM

where did the back and forth about the Sf marriages take course? I can't find it.
2004-02-20 10:33:13 PM
I like my Xbox. Some of the games are the suck but also some are very good. PS2 and Gamecube have shiatty games too.

Different strokes for different folks people. Claiming Xbox is for "preteens and parents with money" is stupid.

you have to admit Bill Gates did what every one of us wants to do...
he started a company with little money....and some somewhat weird looking people....(i like unusual people)...
then for some reason once he succeeded everyone decided he was somehow evil....odd how a hippie and radical became a hated figure....yet..oops that is another thread
2004-02-20 10:36:18 PM
I like the Xbox. I had a hell of a good time playing Halo. (Counterstrike? n00b? Couldn't give a shiat.)

But this sort of thing I don't need or want.

2004-02-20 10:37:17 PM
He sure as hell did. I'd rather have billions of dollars rather than sitting around in my gonch on a friday night
2004-02-20 10:37:21 PM
All three consoles (and GBA, don't think I forgot about you) have their share games, which are the equivalent of goat feces. All three also have some games which have literally made me smile uncontrollably. Games are games. I haven't played favorites on consoles since I was a teenager.

You might also be interested in the Dreamcast emulation scene if you didn't already know about it. I mean, the thing goes for $30 anymore and it can do everything from play mp3's to emulate the SNES.
2004-02-20 10:37:47 PM
May I ask what's asinine about being able to leave a message for someone who's not online?

I mean, fark, phones have been doing it for 20 years, but AOL Instant Messenger still can't. If Microsoft has the common sense to allow messages, more power to'em.

/kinda wants an X-Box
2004-02-20 10:39:56 PM
When I was a kid, we used to argue about Atari vs. Intellivision. I was firmly in the Atari camp, and ridiculed the Intellivision camp mercilessly. Stupid controller and limited games, dammit.

I find it highly amusing that people are still at it, 20 years later.
2004-02-20 10:41:41 PM
This is just ridiculous. I mean, I have an XBox and a PS2... I have XBox Live, and used it a lot for MechAssault (pretty fun), and Crimson Skies (far more fun). Halo is still a shiat-ton more fun playing than any of the PC ports or even most of the PC games period, IMHO. To play Half-Life online, you need to commit a good 100 hours of playing just to be competitive. Even then, you rarely get more than 15 seconds to get anything done before someone puts you down. With Halo, just about anyone can pick up a controller and be fairly competitive. With the PS2, I look menacingly at the network adapter every time I play anything on it, because its simply not useful to me.

There's something to be said about being able to get 4 XBoxes together in one place and being able to play a couple of fun games, needing only a hub or switch and some CAT5. The Box has come a long way since it came out... and its the only choice if you want to get a lot of drunk people involved in a video game.

Now all this new crap they're trying to add isn't going to help sell XBox Live, or increase the value of the XBox... taking the harddrive out is the dumbest plan I've heard yet. Its all fluff, and I'm never going to use any of the new features.

There aren't thousands of titles out for the Box, but very few of the PS2's immense collection even mildly intrigued me. The graphics are awful across the boards, thanks to the lack of anti-aliasing, and while I love the PS2 controller, the XBox-S controller is very good.

Plus, its a console. its not a PC. Its never going to be a PC (unless you hack it) and comparing games on XBox to games on PC is the most asinine thing I've heard.

spamdog my desktop PC does all that too, and it's upgradeable.
2004-02-20 10:44:30 PM
There has been speculation within the industry that Microsoft may not include a hard drive in the next version of the Xbox console, in favor of network-based storage that would reduce the console's physical size and cost.
How the hell do they expect us to back up games if they don't have a 8gig hardrive for us to upgrade to 240gig or so?

Yeah, but how much did you spend getting a good TV out card and two controllers? And do you have your PC sitting right next to the TV, plugged in and ready to go by hitting one button? Can you launch games and movies using just the controller, and never have to get up and fiddle with the mouse?

Modded Xbox makes it awfully convenient.

^^^ lol that's you guys.

get over it please. thanks. I originally got a PS2, played it quite a bit, piece of crap broke on me. I got an Xbox and it's awesome. I went back and got a PS2 about a year later, and while I do use it for some games, I prefer the Xbox. Also, anyone who mentions Halo, the size of the controller, how heavy the Xbox is, etc is about 2 years too late in their flames. :P Update your material please!

Ok, this i NEVER understood, how can anyone play with a damn controller? With a mouse and keyboard/joystick I can pick people off with the best of them the second i sit down. Put put a console control in my hands with all those ministicks and rumbling and what not and im wandering around like a retard on acid. Thats why all my FPS games are for the pc

X-Box Live requires broadband. Why would you have broadband if you don't have a computer?

in a few years, all MS stuff will be subscription based. nobody will "own" ms products.

MS, and a lot of other companies. Don't you think the music industry would rather not go through the cumbersome process of actually making a CD, shipping it to a store and having you physically take it home? They, and the software industry, would prefer you had to access the data on their servers EVERY TIME, with a secure "trusted-hardware" device* to prevent any sort of copying, and pay for it on a per-use basis.

* which would conveniently not accept "unsecured" data, like Open Source software or indy-label music.

Hell, the only thing they hate more than selling an actual product is having to pay people to make that product. And having to convince people to buy it.
