It's true. I was in "woodmans" here in WI 2 weeks ago and they already had a giant mound of pumpkin beers stacked by the front. I've tried a few like "pumking: and others, and would bot buy again. Someday the pumpkin bubble will burst. This was in the liquor store. My wife informs me that they have started selling food in an adjacent section too; some stupid new hipster fad..

Pumpkin beers suck.

That is all.

Demetrius: Pumpkin beers suck.

No, that is not all.  It needs to be said repeatedly, in every beer aisle in the world.  Sucks.

I generally am not a fan of flavored or fruit beers, and I've heard that some (many?) breweries just dump pumpkin in batches that haven't turned out all that great or are otherwise not very good.  Is there any truth to that?  If I did want to try one, are there any pumpkin beers (I'm in the DC area) that I should keep an eye out for?

I just want to declare (read "hope") that 2014 is the year for peak pumpkin.  That is all.

Having actually finished the article after posting, I'll check out the Mad Fox brewpub, which isn't all that far away from me.  Question still stands though.

Is it because a couple breweries did it a few years ago and sold out, causing every other brewery under the sun to go into the "Popular Mobile App" mode and say "Me too!!!!!" until we're up to our eyeballs in the stuff year round?

/reads tfa

Eh, pretty dang close...

I like beer-flavored beer. Not the fruity or berry stuff.

Many just use pumpkin spice only, they tend to be the awful ones. Best to go with ones made with real pumpkin.

Only two I'd recommend are Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin and Southern Tier Pumpking. The latter is more of dessert beer though.

Take a sip of amber ale.  Savor it a few seconds while swallowing.  Now eat a big bite of pumpkin pie.  Swallow.  Take another sip of beer.  I bet the first sip tasted better.

You know what else needs to stop? Beers with 8 pounds of hops. Goddamn it, a hoppy beer is nice once in a while, these days every time I try a new one, they basically hide their shiatty beer craft with a bunch of hops

^This.  Being brewed with real pumpkin mash makes all the difference in the world.

I was about to biatch about how smashed pumpkin is only available in the 22 oz bottles(which is a tall order for a 9% abv beer).

They are selling it in 4 packs of 12 oz.... NICE!

While I look a little pumpkin ale, I made a mistake filling a growler with it a couple of years back. A little bit goes a long way. More than that is too much

Heard about that as well, definitely picking it up. Farking hate bomber-only brews...

Pumpkin beer creep, or creeps with pumpkin beer?  (I thought Smuckers Goober & Grape was the
most disgusting thing I ever saw in a grocery store until this.)
