Republicans want cheap labor. Democrats want to expand the permanent underclass.

Depend on continued bipartisan support to never do a damned thing.

FTFA: "I've outlined to the president in July that the House, the Congress, ought to be dealing with immigration reform," Boehner said on the Hugh Hewitt radio show, according to a transcript. "It wasn't likely to happen this year because of the flood on the border, and the president's own pounding his chest about using his phone and his pen. But I did outline that, you know, there's a possibility that Congress could take this issue up next year."

"Really, the GOP is super pro-immigration!  We really wanted to deal with immigration reform, it's just, there was this flood you see?  Not a real flood, a flood of you people.  Did I say you people.  I mean...it's really Obama's fault!  We had no choice!  He thumped his chest and that prevented us from writing bills somehow!  We aren't anti-immigrant!  Please vote for us come November!"

And I should give a Lame Duck speaker like Boehner any credibility why?

When you can get 218 votes for your OWN proposal from your OWN party, then you may speak, Mr. Boehner.

The point which continues to amaze me is that Republicans keep getting elected.   It must be that the power of their hate is the sole motivating factor which keeps them showing up at the voting booth.  This as they are quickly becoming a minority.  But at this pace and given the apathy of Democrats, Republicans could be in power for 80 more years or until they drop below 20% of the population.

You know that's never going to happen, right?  Our two party, winner-take-all system essentially guarantees that there will always be two major parties in national elections, and that they will always be fairly evenly matched for votes.  In the short term there will be swings one way or the other, but in the long term, that's where the equilibrium will be.  If Democrats ever achieve the type of dominance you describe, they will likely split and the conservative half will consume the remaining Republican party to become the new Conservative party.

They're sealing their party's demise. There is a sizeable portion of the Latino vote that would go for Republicans if they would only vote for something largely like the Senate bill. It's a gateway issue. As soon as they believe the Republicans see them as human, that portion will reliably vote Republican.

People keep saying that but it's not true. Just because Hispanics are religious doesn't make them jive with the type of religious the GOP courts. Hispanics are predominantly Catholic, and emphasize more social justice, which is anathema to the GOP platform.

I'm not saying the numbers would go from 70-30 to 30-70. Reducing the margin to 60-40 is probably the ceiling, but that reduction could give them a way to win the presidency again.

Party of personal responsibility says what now?

...it wasn't likely to happen this year because of the flood on the border, and the president's own pounding  his chest about using his phone and his pen.

Boehner sure sounds pretty broken up over his inability to address the issue. A good cry and a stiff whiskey is in order I imagine.

It's a promise Boehner has made before, only to push back the timeline again and again.

He knows he's lying when he says it. We know he's lying when he says it but as long as enuff of his base buy into the BS he still gets to be gavel-meister.

Boehner needs to STFU and GBTW.

Ugh, shut the F**K UP, BONER, you pathetic powerless sh*twagon.  All you can do is whine whine whine, ask Obama to do things, and then when he does them you refuse to cooperate or compromise in any fashion whatsoever.  You can't even get that dysfunctional herd of retarded cats to come together on a single solitary issue.  You can barely even complain together, much less sign a bill.

Worst. Speaker. EVER.

2014-09-04 01:01:29 AM
"I've outlined to the president in July that the House, the Congress, ought to be dealing with immigration reform,"

That's your job, asshole!  You're the guy who makes the House, the Congress, deal with things like immigration reform.  If they aren't doing that it's 100% your fault.

"It wasn't likely to happen this year because of the flood on the border ...'

Why does that matter, apart from emphasizing why it needs to get done?  It's not like everybody in congress is at the border taking care of things.

"But I did outline that, you know, there's a possibility that Congress could take this issue up next year."

There's a possibility of an infinite number of things happening, and until then, how about the President doing what he can to take care of the mess you refuse to touch, douchebag.  You suggested as much just before you took a month off your busy schedule of doing nothing.

How can this dickmunch continue to get elected, continue to lie, refuse to do his job and blame Obama for not doing his job for him, and sue Obama when he does?  This sunofabiatch needs to lose his Speaker position at the very least.  I'd prefer him going into an alcohol-poisoning coma and choke to death on a cocktail olive.

As much as I loath to encourage him he's half right. Republicans love cheap labor and the general depression of wages that come with it. But since they have to appeal to the xenophobes in their party it's necessary to demonize immigrants at every turn, thus insuring that said immigrants will never vote for them. It's quite the pickle.

Because Republicans know that since the Democrats are the party in power, any shiat the Republicans throw will hurt the Dems more than it hurts the GOP.
