It's part of their Children's Uzi-Awareness campaign: Praying, Not Spraying

The "instructor" clearly should have been watching for the girl to lose control of the weapon, but failed to react fast enough to keep from getting struck by a bullet. It's sad, but not surprising.

Prayer: How to do nothing and still think you're helping.

If we pray hard enough, it will rain guns!

Suicide through negligence.

It makes the ones who pray feel better about themselves. That's something.

Okay, I'll go prey on the family.

Wait, what?

Pray for the kid, I can go with that.

I wonder how many years it will be before her nightmares about the instructor bleeding out after she fills him full of lead, reduces to the occasional once a week.

Authorities said the August 25 death was being handled as an industrial accident, with state occupational safety and health officials investigating. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also was notified.
Prosecutors said they expected no charges to be filed.

That's... surprisingly measured and appropriate, actually.  The only person that could reasonably be charged with criminal negligence being kinda... dead and all.

I find it a little difficult to reconcile the Christian faith with a fascination with weapons of war, but that seems to be an unpopular view.

Dear Jim Bob,

Please learn these morans that think it's best to give Uzis and vodak to nine year old childrens. And if theys ain't learned, strike them farkers down real hard like.

I don't understand what we are praying for. It was obviously God's will. That little girl acted as God's weapon and she smote the instructor for his wickedness.

Amen

I disagree. It allows people to convince themselves that they've in some way helped, thus obviating the need for any thought, introspection or useful action.

Doing nothing is literally less harmful.

This is a problem I have also had with some of my bible banger friends. They love Jesus and they love their guns. I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't have been a big fan of the firearm....but that's just me.

It reminds me of the retarded police officer in Missouri who was seen on video recently at an Oath Keepers? meeting talking about how much he loved Jesus and killing. He ranted for several minutes about killing people and his love of doing so, yet he claimed to be a Christian.

I just don't get it. It makes me sad for our country.

When Jesus returns to Earth, he gains the power to shoot swords out of his mouth. It's right there in Revelation.

I've been told that if the nine year old girl hadn't accidentally killed her uzi-instructor with an uzi, she'd have done it with a car, or a baseball bat, or a pretzel or something.

But they used the word "pray."  That's such a great opportunity to make fun of religious people, even if it does mean overlooking the effect this event will have on the child.

Praying is much better than having an honest discussion about the matter then taking steps to be more careful in the future because you don't have to actually do anything.

Even better is assuming it's not possible to do both.

Done.

It might not make everything better, but then prayer is powerful enough that it just might.

I feel badly for the girl, not only because she shot a guy in the head at 9 years old, but also because her parents are apparently morons.

Or not handed a submachine gun to a 9 year old child.  That would have helped too.

They are devastated by this accident that turned what was supposed to be a unique and brief excursion from their summer vacation into a life-changing tragedy.

Yea. That'll happen when you're American-responsible with firearms.

Congratulations on farking up your kid's psyche with your own screwed-up ideals, though. I'm sure that sort of psychological scarring will probably buff right out and was all worth it so you could play Rambo for no actual goddamn reason other than that you think guns are toys.

Maybe for your next trick you could shove her in a leather gimp suit and drop her off at an S&M club while you're engaging her in your own sick fetish fantasies?

Or it might just deflect from the incredibly bad judgement they used when they decided their 9 year old should learn how to shoot an Uzi

There is an indisputable inverse correlation between educational level and fecundity.

I'm pretty sure the range and its insurance companies are having an honest discussion about the matter and are taking steps to be more careful in the future, like not allowing children to handle submachine guns.

2014-09-03 08:44:04 AM
In all the stories I've read about this incident, there's been no mention of what the "instructor" did in the military. Just because someone is an "Army vet who served in Iraq" doesn't mean they know anything about firearms. Most military vets never see combat and qualify their weapons once a year, other than that they're not around light weapons.

How are YOU not being smug. Prayer and meditation do genuinely help some people. Just because this family has asked for prayers doesn't diminish anything else. It's just the wrong thing to take issue with.
