I've never even heard of him.
And considering my wife watches the Food Network all the time, and even if I'm not paying much attention, I'm pretty familiar with what goes on - I probably should know who he is.  But I don't.  I think that pretty well says that the Food Network is becoming saturated with "celebrity chefs".

What do you mean that day? The secret ingredient ti getting through the day is always booze.  On a side note, when or why did we start making celebrities out of chefs? How about some celebrity farmers or assistant crackwhores.

Cooking Channel maybe?

Besides, English was on the Shatner version...Michiba is the greatest of all the Iron Chefs!

Iron Chef USA is not the same as Iron Chef America. And Iron Chef USA (which lasted 2 episodes) was very bad. William Shatner was the chairman! I think episodes are available on HULU. Enjoy :-)

Todd English was only on one season of Iron Chef America. He is a fairly well known chef but hasn't done a lot of stuff on food network. You would usually see him on PBS stuff. I Think he was Iron chef America in his one stint.

His Beard awards are the real deal tho he at least could cook at one point.

We loved the original Iron Chef.  When Masahiko Kobe would appear with the musicians around him, my wife and I would joke about "Masahiko Kobe and his Orchestra."

Also, Chen Kenichi would open those huge cans of caviar just to use a few spoonfuls.  The story was that if you went to his restaurant the day after taping, there would be specials with caviar in them from those cans.

I figured it was Morimoto if it was showing up in US media.  If it had been Asahi Shimbun, then, yeah, Sakai for sure.

If the show doesn't have a combination of a fortune teller, food critic, Lower House Member, and Bimbo du Jour as the tasters, it's not Iron Chef.

loonatic112358: Does the original Iron Chef shows still get ran?

In one of the more inexplicable marketing moves in history, the original Iron Chef doesn't appear to be available anywhere - broadcast, DVD, streaming... nothing, not for free or pay. It baffles the mind, considering the show's cult following. Lots of someones in Japan are failing capitalism, hard.

Yeah, well...  He IS pretty awesome.

My wife and I went to his place in Philly for dinner once.  We just ordered the "let the chef make a 7 course meal for you", or whatever they call it on the menu.
The server each course with a detailed explanation for why it works with the last and next courses, and what is the best way to eat it.

It cost us over $400 for that meal.,  But it really was one of the best dinners we've ever had!!

stickandmove: Does Todd English even count as a "celebrity chef" anymore?

Yes, Olives was a good restaurant but that was over ten years ago now.

We were out at the Olive Garden for dinner, which was lovely. And, uh, I happen to look over at a certain point during the meal and see a waitress taking an order, and I found myself wondering what color her underpants might be. Her panties. Uh, odds are they are probably basic white, cotton, underpants. But I sort of think, well, maybe they're silk panties, maybe it's a thong. Maybe it's something really cool that I don't even know about. You know, and uh, and I started feeling... what? What, I thought we were in the trust tree in the nest, were we not?

They're hanging on the rear-view mirror of a 1994 Chevy Cavalier which is owned in-full by the line cook (head microwave operator).

It used to come on some UHF station in the Bay Area years ago, before it was dubbed. The English subtitles made about as much sense as you'd expect.

And it was glorious.
