(Biloxi Sun Herald)   If your neighbor is playing music you don't like do you a) ask him to turn it down; b) call police; or c) hold a knife to his throat and ask him if he is ready to die. Article helpfully points out it's unclear what type of music or how loud it was   (sunherald.com ) divider line

Well, if the neighbor had Bieber cranked, I really couldn't blame *anybody* for getting a little homicide-y.

I'm going to have to also ask what the music was, what time, and how loud.  Also a factor if the knife holder is guilty of any of those same offenses.

Seconded; well done, xanadian.

It really does depend a lot on what type of music and how loud. It is perfectly justifiable to murder someone in a horrible way, if they have bad taste in music. That's just common sense. It'll be a sad day when people with bad taste in music get equal protection under the law.

I live on a wooded lot, my neighbors also live on wooded lots and sometimes forget they have neighbors.  Every few years we have to remind them that not everyone wants to hear James Taylor. Carly Simon and Gordon Lightfoot blasted all night long.

As someone whose neighbors consistently play loud music right outside my window all night: I don't condone what this person did, but I understand it.

Some it is even music I like, but when it's midnight and I have to work the next day it makes me like it a lot less

2014-09-02 09:08:00 AM
What music was playing is irrelevant, if your neighbor was cranking your favorite band when you were trying to sleep, watch TV or just enjoy some piece and quiet it would still be unwelcome noise. Chances are this guy has had these problems with this guy before and has already used tried A and B.

Inconsiderate selfish people are inconsiderate and selfish.

I was sitting in my car reading the other day, waiting for someone to get out of a doctor's appointment.  I had a prime spot where I could see the building entrance, the sun was shining, a nice breeze was blowing... when someone parked next to me with their radio playing an entire Fastball album.

I didn't have a knife, so I just walked into the waiting room to escape.

Not that I condone Mr. Knife to the Throat's actions, but I really do wonder why someone would think it's acceptable to play music so loud someone else can hear it in their own home. Even when I went through my full throttle douchebag phase in college and had four 12 inch subwoofers in my car, I never used them in any residential areas.

Having had my one of my neighbors playing their crappy ass music until 2am on Saturday night, I can relate, but called the cops instead, only took them an hour to show up.

I had someone repeatedly play an admittedly well-done version of "Amazing Grace" on her car stereo in front of my house one night last week, while she was waiting to pick up her brother from a home across the street. It was about nine o'clock, and when I stepped outside she was standing there with her arms outstretched being all at one with the Lord. I wasn't up for getting into it with some religious loon, so I waited a bit, and about ten minutes later, he came out of the house and they left.

If it happens again, I'll simply call the cops and let the perps wallow in their "persecution for Jesus" complex. Although the knife thing's an appealing idea, too.

She was standing in the street next to her car, not at my front door. . . Just to clarify.

I had a horrible neighbor back in college who would play their music very loud at all hours. The apartments were cheap and old, so the walls were paper thin. Rather than confront them about it, I went outside and cut the power to their apartment for about a 10 count. I only had to do that a few times and they kept their stereo down. I can only assume it became a bragging point for them, as in "my stereo it's so awesome it will cause this apartment to have a brown out!"

/felt good about not confronting them, a month or so later, the police hauled the guy away for domestic violence. He was not a rational fellow.

One night long ago when I lived in a trailer park I was pretty drunk and played quite loudly ,
Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict
someone didn't like it and the Sheriff stopped by to tell me to turn that shiat down.

/that's my loud music story.

That's the danger with sh*t like that. People who are that oblivious to courtesy in the first place probably aren't going to react well to someone pointing it out to them.

While in college, I had a next door neighbor in a crappy apartment complex who blasted David Bowie "Golden Years" (the song, not the album) over and over and over for hours and hours.

Golden years... go-ooold... whop whop whop...

Polka music or Karaoke. It's always either of those.

More justifiable to murder someone for being hugely inconsiderate.  Personally, I love listening to loud music. But I also hate to hear or smell anything from my neighbors.

That should be everyone's rule of thumb; your neighbors don't want to hear or smell your shiat.

Back when if you were breathing you could get a mortgage to buy a house the tiny house next door to me was sold to a mexican fellow. After moving in he came to the point that he couldn't make the payments so he started taking on roommates. At the peak he had 12 people stacked in the tiny place (900 sq ft) and the house ran 24/7 with that God Awful mexican polka music blasting at all hours day and night. After they trashed the house and split, I (and neighbors) were seriously thinking of burning the house down. This guy with the knife just hit his breaking point and I can't say I blame him.

Neighbor misunderstood the lyrics and thought he heard

Excuse me while I kill this guy,

Some people hear

Excuse me while I kiss this guy,

then the rest of us hear

Excuse me while I kiss the sky,

just a misunderstanding, thats all... :)

My neighbors thankfully don't play loud, shiatty music, but they do have a 'Vette. I have never once seen him drive it, but every day, sometimes at night, he will rev it loudly for half an hour for no reason. We can't even talk inside for Chrisake!

I'm pretty sure I know what kind of music it was. The only kind of music my asshole neighbors (apt complex) crank up on their car stereos when arriving or leaving.

Not Celine Dion or Yanni, in other words.

I dropped a water balloon from like the 10th floor of my dorm into a convertible some asshole had parked outside one summer for this reason.  I couldn't hear myself think 10 stories and a concrete wall away from this thing and he had it playing for like a half hour before I torpedoed him.

I have never regretted it.

There is also the issue of repetition. Every track has a repeat playing count after which homicide is justified. For some tracks that number is ONE.

I want to be a weapons engineer when I grow up so I can invent the shoulder-fired bass-seeking missile.

/You put a $2000 sound system in a $1000 Kia?

I used to have a kid next door to me do that every morning with his shiatty Honda complete with "Dirt-bike Sound" (as I call them) muffler. Couldn't wait 'til he blew that thing up. Remarkably, he didn't, but he did stop doing it eventually. I think someone must have said to him, "Stop being an idiot."

/ "RINNN RINN RIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNN" is not a cool sound for a car.
