What, one of them said, "fark the rubes, we'll keep selling $3.00 worth of production for $120.00." and the other said, "fark them harder -- make it $150.00." ?

"I have respect for Guerra, but unfortunately our views of the company's future diverged," Del Vecchio told reporters. The departure was "without arguments, it was consensual."

so for the first time in years, my old frames are intact and I can just replace the lenses.   My last pair of glasses/lenses were $329 for middle of the road frames and some "high index of refraction" polycarbonate-whatever bifocal lenses.   I'm ok with that.

I go back to the same store with the new marginally changed prescription expecting to pay under $200 for just lenses and I'm told that lenses alone are $400.   Fark that monopoly, I'll keep wearing my old pair.

If there is a Costco near you, you can probably pay for the membership fee, an eye exam, and get new glasses for less than $400.

That or Walmart.  I think they are about the only two companies not in the Luxottica monopoly.

I've got a pair of Ray-Bans that were still made in Italy that are banged up but i refuse to replace them with the new Made in China logo for the same cost.

Sams (WalMart) had two tries at my VERY high index prescription and could not get it even close (they were off by 1.5 diopters). Had to go back to my eye doctor's in-practice boutique. I mostly wear contacts, but like having a proper prescription pair of glasses.

Or you could get an eye exam for $60 (assuming no insurance), and new glasses for $40 from places like zennioptical.com.  fark these people and their monopoly.

I like how the founder said that they had a good ten years under the former CEO (stock price tripled) and they will do even better the next ten with 3 CEOs.
When in the history of anything has a company with three heads (or even two) done well?

Of all the asswipes in this world that I want to see die screaming in a nuclear firestorm, this bald corksucker is at the top three of the list! This mafia don is THE reason why the costs for eyeglasses and sunglasses have skyrocketed in the past few years. Remember how Ray Bans and Oakleys were affordable ten years ago? Notice how much they cost now? This guy is the reason why.

60 Minutes did an article of this chunk of dung and his monopolistic policies a few years ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voUiWOGv8ec

HE is why my prescription eyeglasses went from $300 2 years ago to over EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS last month!

To me, it IS personal!

Die, Andrea Guerra! Die f*kkin' die Die DIE!!!!!!

2014-09-02 01:26:17 PM
And PS:

I hope Luxottica enjoys their precious farkin' global monopoly greedfest while they still can. With online eyewear places like zennioptical.com and Glasses USA coming onto the scene, Luxottica is soon going to become the Best Buy to Zenni Optical's Amazon.

I've got a neighbor who has some sort of sales role for Oakley.  Into the second year of the Great Recession, he had an in-ground swimming installed.  Said he'd had a good year.

When asked why people were buying expensive sunglasses during an economic downturn, he replied that when money is tight and people can't afford the big things (cars, etc, I guess) they'll splurge on expensive small things, like sunglasses.

Gecko Gingrich: TV's Vinnie: HE is why my prescription eyeglasses went from $300 2 years ago to over EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS last month!

I doubt that's an apples to apples comparison. I'm not saying that you didn't pay $300 two years ago and $800 last month, I'm just saying that you didn't get the same thing both times.

Actually, yes. It was only a slight change in the prescription values, but I wanted to keep the same sort of frames because I was familiar with them. Seems that since I had my previous pair, some bald asswipe in Italy got greedy and decided to take over 99.99% of every frame and lens manufacturer on the globe. Thankfully, I discovered Zenni Optical while doing a search and took my prescription to them instead. $127 for everything, including no-glare and scratch resist.

/What is it about horrible rich people and baldness? It's like some Lex Luthor stereotype. Maybe it's because their own hair follicles cannot stand being near so much evil and they make a break for it off the scalp.

I stand by my assertion (even if you may not be aware that you got different products each time), or you are wont to hyperbole.

TV's Vinnie: Thankfully, I discovered Zenni Optical while doing a search and took my prescription to them instead. $127 for everything, including no-glare and scratch resist.

Well, good luck with that.

Well thanks. I did have good luck with that. Luxottica scam: $800. Zenni Optical: $127. Actually got three pairs because of a "Buy Two get One Free" sale that Zenni has every now and then. My next order may even add on Transitions coating for the sh*ts n' giggles cuz I've never been able to afford such a thing till now.

And that's no hyperbole.

Dude they own Lenscrafters...

And yes they do... I worked for them for a short period.

The ONLY positive thing about that shiat company is that they provide free glasses to 3rd world countries (for tax breaks of course).

When i worked there, we earned extra vacation time by putting in "volunteer" work by packaging free glasses to those countries...

Gecko Gingrich: And, for my bonafides:

-I've been an ABO certified optician for over 2 decades.
-My dad, my business partner, has been ABO certified optician for over 4 and an FBDO for over 5 decades.
-I'm a former Vice-President of my state's Opticians' Association.
-My dad's a former President of said Association.

Your two weeks of "How to up-sell suckers" training from LensCrafters is hardly going to dissuade me from the fact that LensCrafters isn't a lens manufacturer any more than your local Chevy dealership is a car manufacturer.

They're called LensCRAFTERs, obviously they make lenses, duh. Your fancy edjumacation can't hide that simple truth.

I also came here to mention Zenni.

My last order from them was for a pair of prescription aviator sunglasses, with custom tint, mirror-finish coating, anti-scratch and water/fingerprint resistant treatments, plus a pair of regular specs also with the lens coatings, and polarized slip-on shades for both. Ran me under $200 for both pairs combined, and the glasses are comfortable, stylish, and have fantastic optical quality. Same order would likely have cost me nearly a grand from LensCrafters.

They don't have "name brand" frames, but if that's what you care about, well, I can't fix you.
