If you're not familiar with RedditYou're familiar with Reddit but I need to create a rhetorical opening so I can slander them, this is the best way I know how to describe it: it's an "anything goes" online message board where the loudest voices belong to misogynistic trolls who value anonymity over decency.an undeservedly popular discussion site populated by the exact same amount of dipshiats as every other online discussion site, but with features to make it much easier for delicate flowers like yourself to avoid them.

ftftfa

tl;dr: idiot blames reddit for something 4chanAnonIB did and gets trolled by a Professional Trolltalk radio host and some random tards on twitter.

I find it interesting that we had to wait until there was an article blaming the viewers (presumably mostly male) before we get a green on this.

TITS or not, this was a huge story just on the implications on data security and cloud storage. The jury is out on whether or not this was a iCloud "hack" as suggested was coming by Russia a few weeks back, a vulnerability of Akamai/Amazon cloud infrastructure, or simply a targeted attack on the celebs in question.

And Fark ignored it because, why? Misogyny? Will Fark refuse to green the next Brett Farve/Anthony Weiner/etc - like  story as well?

It's interesting to see the bulk of the article be about Reddit and not 4chan.  It's almost like the entire world has marked that place on the grand map of the internet as "There be Dragons" and decided to go after places that might in some way have a shred of decency.

While this is a part of the inevitable growing pains of an inescapably interconnected society, stealing personal data is a severely lowlife thing to do. This will be a very interesting story to follow.

Well, on one hand you have the federal government gobbling up personal information with no real purpose or end in sight, and on the other you're got guys who want to see naked celebrities.

But they're totally the same in scope and meaning.

Probably because of the perceptions people had about the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and McKayla Maroney. If it had been Tia Tequila or Miley Cyrus I doubt there'd be so much butthurt over it.  People don't want to have their fantasies shattered even though they wank it to American Hustle like a MDMA-addled spider monkey.

Right.  The author is ragging on people who want their privacy protected but not someone else's.  After all, if you don't want the government snooping on your communications, you can just not communicate electronically, right?

I think it's even more than that.

Smartphones are still brand-new as a function of society. We still haven't established all of the social rules of their use, including what's "polite" and what's not. Less than a decade ago, only the richest people had cell phones with cameras that they could use to send nekkid pictures to their equally wealthy significant other. When someone like Paris Hilton's phone got hacked, no one could see that as something that could possibly happen to themselves or their SO or their sister. Now everyone has a smartphone, and nearly all iPhone users back up their phones to iCloud. People can very much see this as something that could happen to them. Hence the outrage.

DO NOT POST ANY INFORMATION, TRUE OR FALSE, ABOUT THE IDENTITY OF THE PERSON(S) LEAKING THESE PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS. IF YOU DO THAT YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THIS SUBREDDIT.
"If the hypocrisy of this dim herd is not bare enough for you, consider this: these people want to protect someone who stole and exposed the private nude photos of women because logically their actions are roughly equivalent to someone who leaks state secrets like illegal mass spying on American citizens. And it's not just people on Reddit who share this perspective."

Perhaps they're trying to protect the identity of the leaker...I don't know, but that's not the way I read it. I thought that Reddit was just trying to prevent a bad situation where an innocent individual's name is mentioned and an angry internet mob turns his life into a living hell.

Oh FFS - if your world is so black and white that the statements "Whoever stole those pictures and posted them online is an asshole of the first order" and "You should know better than to store intimate photos to an online storage system." can't both be true...then I can't help you, and I pity you.  Reality must hurt you, a lot.
