It sounds completely police state when the police can call the bar and tell them to not allow a meeting.

no apostrophe, subby...

Or, hey, try reading the article.

...under provincial legislation, police are able to remove criminals, gang members or gang associates from licensed establishments and in this case, they wanted to inform area bars that they wouldn't hesitate to do so.

How scary and "police state" of them! Reminding licensed establishments of the law.

And all laws are good because they're the law, right? They would never ever pass a bad or unjust law. Why, it could never be seen as a police state, as long as the books are correct and the paperwork is filed on time.

I bet you roll Paladin. And play a terrible one at that.

The comments are interesting:

"Send the Hell's Angels over there to Afraquisyristan to sort those non-motorcycle riding ISIS boys out. "

Although the article mentions Calgary a lot and ALERT would include Calgary police officers, I'm still going to have to be the jerk who says Subby's headline is wrong.  Much more likely that Lethbridge city police, RCMP, or Sheriffs were calling the bars in Lethbridge.

While police trying to deter the group from certain places is fairly common, Irons said "bullying" bar owners in order to help do so is a step too far.

yeah, only the biker gangs should be able to do the bullying!

And I'm sure the police went in, recited the law word for word from a book, and then told them to have a nice day,  no intimidation or implied threats at all I'm sure.

I most certainly read the article. As far as I know, Hell's Angels are a "gang" that rides motorcycles and like OMG meets at a bar and drinks beer JUST LIKE AT EVERY FARK PARTY I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. Criminal? Gang member? Like the Zetas who behead people, or the drug gangs in Honduras El Salvador etc whose kids are automatically refugees if they get here?

Well, considering how much of a bad joke the Canadian constitution is, any law can hold up in court here, so it really doesn't matter in the end.

Yes civil liberties are so trampled here...That's why laws outlawing prostitution were struck down, moronic mandatory sentencing guidelines are being struck down, the federal government's attempt to outlaw safe injection sites was quashed...Thankfully the courts, using that joke of constitution, are rolling back the Conservative tough stupid on crime legislation.

I can't decide whether you're a pampered little biatch who thinks that all laws are there to keep the people down or self entitled asshole who can't stand the fact that there are still some restrictions on how fast he turn oil sands into cash and toxic by-products

Well damn! I had a well written reply earlier, that appears to have just vanished. Now I'm a few beers in and may not be quite so eloquent. So with that out of the way.  "The Boys" are most definately a criminal organization. Mostly drugs now, but in the past, typical mafiosa type activities. Since the "biker wars" in the 70's and 80's, they've smartened up. Aged, in alot of ways. Much less violence (it's there though). Most that I know are pretty decent guys, and usually have day jobs. Make no mistake though, they are heavy into business. I know quite a few, and for the most part decent guys to have a beer with, I just wouldn't suggest being "associated" with them or pissing one(them) off. That would be a very poor choice. The HA being just a biker organization is like saying something completely opposite of that(not witty enough right now for a better "is to") LOL.
 CSB:
I worked in a bar for 8 years that was kinda "home base", and have been to many afterparties at the Clubhouse. Not too recently, this was about three years ago the bar closed down. I can't imagine anything has changed though. Seriously not bad guys, but no way would I want to fark with them. As far as gangs go, at least they are pretty much normal dudes, with tat's and bikes and jobs and an awesome supplemental income. Make no mistake though. Criminals they most certinly are.
/CSB

hmmm...no idea how it got formatted like that, fark it I'm posting and getting another beer.

Hmmm...that's not how the article describes it.
"He said under provincial legislation, police are able to remove criminals, gang members or gang associates from licensed establishments and in this case, they wanted to inform area bars that they wouldn't hesitate to do so.
"We took some proactive steps to disrupt (the Hells Angels') planned activities," said Tucker."

Licensed establishments. This is not a new law. They advertised plans, and the police said fine....BUT....we will be removing them if they are there. If I was an owner of any of the hotel or bars I would have said "Come on in!!", get as much sales in as you could before the plice broke it up. (I doubt they really would though). Take whatever cash you can, cause they have alot to spend. If they did get removed? Whatever....I'm really surprised any owner would give a crap one way or the other. "You might remove them? Okay, then do it, until then I'm pouring beer as fast as I can serve it."
