Yeah, I very much doubt anything that takes off from LCY would be able to reach the US. It's a tiny single runway and the only jet that can operate from there is the Bae 146. For US flights LHR (Heathrow) is more likely.

Actually they use a special Airbus A318 with only 32 seats in an all business class configuration. The westbound flight takes off with a minimum of fuel and stops at Shannon, Ireland where the passengers pre-clear US customs & immigration while the plane is fully fueld. It then proceeds to JFK and lands as a domestic flight. They claim door-to-door journey time from Canary Wharf to Manhattan is similar to the old concorde service.

You're quite correct that the BAE 146 was the only jet cleared to operate at LCY when it opened. It was originally designed with turboprops in mind, and quite a few do still use it, but these days they also fly some of the smaller Embraer and Bombardier jets out of there. It's not just the length of the runway - the glide slope is considerably steeper than most airports. It's a fun ride if you ever get the chance.

I've flown in there a few times on Flight Simulator. I usually go under the QEII bridge on the approach.

Continental used to be pros at this before the merger with United.  By memory, here were a few flights from Houston...

CO1492 to Columbus, OH
CO500 to Indianapolis
CO1776 to Philadelphia

I don't think United has kept any of these, however.

I think I recall TWA 1/2 being between the St. Louis hub and Honolulu, back around 2000.  In 2002, United #1 was from Chicago O'Hare to Honolulu - looks like it's now Houston-Tokyo.

Northwest's nonstop from Minneapolis to Honolulu used to be flight 98 (return 99) then some clever person switched it to 808 (Hawaii's area code) with 809 as the return, for a few years.  Then it became something like 624/625, then Delta killed the nonstop entirely, although they've got meaningless-numbers 836/837 between Atlanta and Honolulu.

Oh, Hawaiian's JFK-Honolulu flight is 50.  As in, Five-0.  Haven't been on it.

I don't think I've been on any flights 1776 to Philadelphia, but years ago I was on United 1976, which still went there.

The vast majority of my 500+ flights appear to have had no numerological meaning whatsoever. :(

I remember a while back, on a Friday the 13th, Finn Air had a flight 666 to Helsinki (IATA code HEL).
