The one time I should have just read the headline.

2014-08-30 07:25:39 PM
Great! now I have to have a friggin' heart attack to get my lawn mowed? what do I need to do to get my House painted?

2014-08-30 07:36:03 PM
Well that last sentence sure sucked the feel good out of that story.

Think of a laugh track after the sentence, it's better.

Give them some Vicodin?

Yes, firefighters. Tough and manly on the outside, soft and squishy on the inside.

2014-08-30 08:24:18 PM
firemen...good. cops...bad.

2014-08-30 08:25:40 PM
Sad ending. Also, why did they make public where the key was hidden?

2014-08-30 08:25:47 PM
I'm trying to come up with a way some Farker will use this to rail about overpaid, lazy firefighters but it's pretty tough.  Neat story.

2014-08-30 08:27:47 PM
In before people biatching about their tax dollars being wasted by on duty fire fighters.

/I'm sure a teabagger will be here soon to fill that void

And they all lived happily ever aft--- oh, wait....

Oh great. They killed the old man.

It's very much the same everywhere. It suggests an obvious solution.

2014-08-30 08:31:29 PM
nice act of kindness by the firefighters.

but heroes? fark no. there is nothing heroic about mowing a lawn. was i heroic for mowing my lawn today. ok ok i have riding mower but hell they took turns.

yeah the random use of "hero" is a major peeve.

The firemen are Mexican-Americans. It's in their nature to do this.

Probably cause the news is several days old and the wife got it?

Depends. Do you want them to be fire-MEN or fire-FIGHTERS?

Wut?

This story does not have a happy ending. John McCormick died two days later.

So in reality it's a story about government employees wasting taxpayer time.

Nadie_AZ: Oh great. They killed the old man.

With the lawn mowed, his spirit knew that his work on Earth was done and departed. So yeah, they totally killed him; that's what I'm taking from this.

When I have the deceasement I wish for leaving the yard half mowed also just to give the central fingerings to the neighbors of me.

The hero aspect to the story is that the firefighters went above and beyond their assigned task. They stabilized the older gent, got him to the ER and then finished clean up. It sucks he died. Those firefighters are real heroes not some bloviating shiatheel like Ted Cruz.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking, just fire the cops.

Prob'ly not. You likely had an innate sliver of humanity in you that caused you to change careers in the first place.

There are some places -Manhattan Beach, California sticks in my mind for some reason - where they rotate between being cops and firefighters.

Hundred dollars to the first to nail his wife.
I'm going to mow her lawn!
Wait wait. I'm in on that.
Me too! Me too!
Guys, stop. The husband died.
Oh hell. There's no sport in nailing a widow.

2014-08-30 08:48:46 PM
This story reminds me of a TV show years ago. Some guy went around the US and shared stories of ordinary Americans doing extraordinary stuff. It could be as simple as the people who would stop on a highway to feed a dog that had fallen out of a passing vehicle, but refused to go with anyone but its owner, who never came back.

Then there'd be the kicker, like this story, that the dog got hit by a car one day and was killed.

It didn't matter where in the US, the people were Americans, not Democrats, Republicans or whatever.

I love your command of the English language, it always cheers me up.

They are civil servants that signed up for the job knowing full well the risks. Even the most ignorant millennial snowflake retard doesn't become a firefighter expecting to decorate cakes all day. Give the so called hero nonsense a rest.

They mowed a lawn? Big fat hairy deal.

Hmm. I thought only illegal Mexican immigrants did yard work for cheap.

Remember the "Flymo", the hovercraft like mower? My friend didn't. He thought it was BS. So I showed it to him on the web. He wondered why someone would make one. So I told him "so you can mow over water". And he believed me!!!! lol

Calling PT Barnham. lol

This is why everyone loves Firefighters.
Suck it Cops.

Actually hover mowers are generally used around lakes and ponds to mow the banks.

An injury, actually, though I didn't go back because I saw myself becoming the jaded vet and hatred the way I was treated. People are HAPPY to see a medic roll up. Not so much the police.

/just wanted to help either way
//admittedly had a hero complex.
