They... they at least tazed his junk on the way to the hospital, right?

How can they call themselves police if no one's junk was thoroughly tazed?

If you're going to display the motto "To protect and serve", you shouldn't do so ironically.  Good on our hat, wish it were more like that here in their pants.

It is much more important that we protect the lives of our royalty and overlords than worry about the peasants.  if a few of the underclass die while we are "protecting" them, well, they shouldn't have jumped in front of our bullets.

The biggest difference I noticed with Canadian police that differs from their US counterparts is Canadian police do not have a sense of entitlement to break and flaunt the law as a perk of their position.  I have seen marked police cars pulled over for speeding by Sheriffs, a OWI for an officer not only is possible at .05 but can end their career and the actions of Canadian officers are actually held to a higher standard than the general public instead of the US feeling that cops have to be allowed to break laws and abuse other because of the nature of their position or because TV portrays it as acceptable.

I'd surrender too, if Amy Jo Johnson showed up at my door. Sort of an Ultimate Surrender kind of deal, maybe... if she'd go for that. I know it's not the same, but I wouldn't be picky.

The police response began Thursday night before midnight and followed a visit by military police to a house in Petawawa, home of the army's 2 Canadian  Mechanized Brigade Group.

Sounds like some kind of scary killer Robot Army.

Only reason it took 40 hours is that he never heard them tap at the door.

US cops often think that citizens want to commit "suicide by cop" and will oblige them. Canadian cops think that is a crime and try to prevent it. Canadian jails are also nicer so you have fewer preferring death over jail.

I was behind one today, I noticed he was pulling away from me at great speed.  This is a 45 and while entering into a residential area it drops to 35.  So anywho, there's one of those speed traps that tells you how fast you're going right when the speed drops to 35, this thing says he's doing 50.  Unbelievable.
/i'm sure he'd say those are unreliable

Cops in Vancouver have been known to provoke people into fights for excuses to lay beat downs.  They're a force of thugs and hoodlums, and their leaderships is corrupt.  Canadian police aren't much better than their southern counterparts.

Yeah...you know most of us find it trivial to avoid having in-depth experiences dealing with police forces in multiple countries. Just sayin'

Benton Fraser: When I graduated from the Academy, my father gave me one piece of advice. He said, 'Always... ' No. He said, 'Never... '

[Ray gives him a quizzical stare]

Benton Fraser: Well, actually he gave me two pieces of advice. I've forgotten the other one, but the important one is, never chase a man over a cliff.

Ray Vecchio: That's supposed to mean something in Canadian, isn't it?

Benton Fraser: If you're going to take on a man, you'd better know more than he does. Now our strength is, I know this area better than anyone. Their weakness is, they think they have an advantage.

Ray Vecchio: Let me see that bag. Being an American, I also know where my strength lies, and that's in being as heavily armed as possible at all times.

[dumps an assortment of guns, grenades and knives out of the bag]

Ray Vecchio: It's all completely legal, I swear to you.

2014-08-30 06:20:49 PM
Benton Fraser: Excuse me, can I have your attention please? Thank you. Anyone carrying illegal weapons if you would place them on the bar. You are under arrest.

[a knife is thrown into the wall near Fraser's head]

Benton Fraser: You realize I'm going to have to confiscate that?

Many police departments in Canada are also very open with misconduct allegations and results.  The Vancouver Police Dept's OPCC (Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner) has been releasing reports for years, and are now even releasing them quarterly.   Here's the summary from 2013 for an example of what an easy-to-read problem/action-taken report can look like (see page 8 on).  Lots of dismissals.

The strategic supply of roasted beans must be protected at all costs less anarchy ensue.

/ Killing a man is easy. Surrounding a guy with hundreds of guns for 40 hours and taking him to the hospital takes LOTS of training.

2014-08-30 07:16:02 PM
If this is a military family, the cops are going to be careful, because they have no idea what firepower he has in there. Some pretty large weapons have gone missing, so you don't want to kick in a door and find yourself looking at the wrong end of a bazooka.

Also, this is the O.P.P. If it was the Toronto cops, they would have shot every black guy in a three block radius and claimed it was self-defense.

1. In America, the police and the public have a really bad relationship. Even in places where there is almost no crime, everyone hates the police because of tickets. As soon as you see a police car, your first reaction is to stiffen up and slow down and hope you're not going to get pulled over and issued a ticket.

A large budget of the police is from tickets so almost everyone has to pay the "police tax". Police are treated as henchmen collecting protection money and so, sooner than later they start acting like that.

2. The composition of the police department is different than the general populace. Like in Missouri, where 90% of the officers are white when the population is mostly black. Same in every other place. Just like the mafia does not reflect the demographics of the local population, the police department is not run to find people in the community but as a sort of membership that overly represents a certain demographic.

This creates the feeling that the police are just a bunch of oppressors rather than "policing" the community. Even ISIS makes sure than their "police" is not native but foreigners because representatives of the community will act very very differently.

3. Though there are great people who are police officers. But, there are also a lot of very bad people. Seems like the bad ones are increasing year by year. If the trend continues, the police will be all run by thugs for thugs, and all the good guys will be squeezed out.

2014-08-30 07:27:02 PM
WTF Canada, you should have killed everybody on the scene then burn the place down. then all you would have to do is sort through the ashes to identify an suspect

2014-08-30 07:41:51 PM

hubiestubert: This series pretty much shows the differences between American SWAT and the Canuckistani response units...with some liberties for television of course.

Well, that and the reflexive "Sorry" when busting in doors...

I can tell you that my local law enforcement did exactly the same thing as the canucks here with a standoff in my neighborhood last year: blocked off some streets, maintained a presence, and waited 12 hours for the guy to give up.

Is that just an anecdote? Sure, but so is every other example people give of how our cops must be the most bloodthirsty racist shiatbag nazies since the dawn of time that people point to around here.

Which events will you hear about and remember? Never the one I just mentioned, which didn't even make the evening news.

With that said, there is a lot of improvement to be made with respect to police in this country, some departments far more than others, but approaching them without a sound mind and reasons based on statistics will accomplish little more than alienating both sides.
