I know these guys. Friends of friends of mine from highschool.

When I moved back to Austin after college, I started to hang out with one of the Beerworks founders...  Before he'd started the brewery, of course.

A nice enough dude, but I got tired of being around him. All he talked about was beer, and how much he loved beer, and beer this and beer that. Got annoying, since I like beer, but don't care much about it except that I hope it's cheap and tastes okay.

Beerworks filled a nice niche in the Austin market, and scored a huge marketing win with this. So good on that guy for taking his annoying obsession and turning into a legit business.

You can get bad beer for less than a dollar a can. The nice stuff tends to cost more than that.

Austin Beerworks is a craft brewery, so hell yeah that is a bargain. I'd love to see prices like that for the Sputnik.

They only seem to have 4 regular products. I like their ABV explanations

http://austinbeerworks.com/beer/

Peacemaker Anytime Ale
ABV 5.0 Four before you get the urge to climb things
Anytime Light, Balanced, and Smooth

Fire Eagle American IPA
ABV 6.4 Three before you start hugging the elderly
IPA Hoppy, Bold and American

Black Thunder German Schwarz
ABV 5.3 Four before you break out that Mick Jagger impression
Schwarz Dark, Distinctive, and Dry

Pearl Snap German-Style Pils
ABV 5.3 Three before you start trying that annoying accent
Pils Crisp, Refreshing, and Clean

Depends on the brand, most mass produced domestics are typically less than $1.00 a can, most smaller craft beers and imports are around $8.00 a 6 pack.

It depends. Big manufacturers like bud sell 30 packs for about $25 or $.83 a beer. Craft manufacturers like leinenkugel or boulevard sell 12 packs for about $14-15 or $1.16 a beer. Of course, that's the retail price and depends on what state you reside in and how hard it is to get the brand in question. So $1.00 a beer is toward the middle of the road.

Used to buy Kona Firerock Ale in Nevada for about $6 a six pack. Moved to the islands now and it's upwards of $10-$11 here. Go figure

One of the selling points of Beerworks beer is that it comes in an aluminum can, so you can drink it at places where glass is not allowed. 'Good craft beer in a can' was part of their selling point... '. ( along with 'good craft beer made in central texas'.. Austin had hardly any local breweries until tecently, which was silly considerin demographics)

And I always wondered, if there are 99 bottles, why take ONE down and pass it around? Why not just let everybody have their own bottle? Seems more sanitary, and there'd be less waiting when you wanted a drink...

Kind of like in programming, I like the value of a Boolean to agree with its name. Ran across a config item yesterday called "use_no_compress=true" with corresponding code like:

if (!use_no_compress ) compress();

Lemme see:
Icehouse-$12/18 pack
18 x 5 = 90
$12 x 5 = $60
$8/12 pack
12 x 1 = 12
$8 x 1 = $8
90 + 12 = 102
$60 + $8 = $68
102 Icehouse beers = $68

But, as I mentioned, it's Icehouse.  Which is, in my opinion, the best cheap nasty sh*t you can get.  (Mickey's Big Mouth = possible exception...but you've gotta be feeling Really white trash for that.)

A big chunk of that is Texas's backward beer laws, which only got changed to allow off-site sales at all this year.

I'll convert:
99 USD = ~ 562 DKK or ~75 EURO
for 99 355ml cans.

Now you can make an appropriate comparison.

Those craft beers are usually cheaper when bought in larger quantities than a 6-pack.  $99 for 99 cans is probably a ripoff.

Especially since cost is often a matter of the brewery's capacity.  Here in NY, Saranac is about a dollar cheaper per 6-pack than all the other craft beers, because they're just better at production than a lot of these young whippersnapper start-ups.  The Saranac folks up in Utica actually brew a lot of the "Brooklyn" beers on contract, just because they have the extra capacity.  If you tried to sell me a 99-pack of beer, I'd assume you had the infrastructure to sell it for less than a dollar per can.
