Rebecca Lowe doesn't need support. Naturally perky.

United is hit pretty hard by injuries and is having a bit of trouble adjusting to the new system, but does anybody really think they'll lose a league game to Burnley?

My mate's a United supporter, he's still convinced that Van Gaal will get Vidal by the close of the window.

Well people said Man Utd needed devine intervention to do well this season.

Now they have an Angel. Let's see if this works

Utd up first. News says they have agreed terms for Blind from Ajax. And they still have three of the players that LvG bought specifically for this system -- Shaw, Herrara, and Rojo -- unavailable. So it will get better.

I hope.

It is your first FFPL report of the new season!

Our first round of scoring - second round of the league - saw a full 50 Farkers embark on the emotional rollercoaster in the same week a £50m player was effectively released on a free.

Top of the early table and provisional Banker Bonus Club President is a new name - Krazikarl. A massive 175 haul, with three perfects and a x3 Banker. Second place is also a newbie - Eclectic with 130 and Rev.K is in third. It was that sort of week.

Snoopydoo is our first Mr Median and brings up the rear on Page 1 with a respectable 65. Score 65 every week and you'll do well.

At the top of Page 2 we have a veteran - Gonz_Hotspur, who has learned what a psychological difference 5 points can make. Last years winner - nathanjr - is down in 36th.

At the bottom several more freshers have found out this is not an easy game. Korteks, HideAndGoFarkYourself, RumsfeldsReplacement and orangehat are all experiencing negative waves alongside scarred veteran dj_bigbird.

League Support

Arsenal - 13
Liverpool - 6
Spurs - 5
MUFC - 4
Everton - 2
Fulham - 2
Non-aligned states - 2
NUFC - 1.5 [Narrowed eyes at krej55]

West Ham
Norwich
Crystal Palace
Wimbledon
Burton Albion
Bristol City
Doncaster
Swansea
Burnley
Blackburn
Chelsea
Aston Villa
[Squint] Leyton Orient
And Mighty Oxford United.

This season sees new competitions. I have two in mind. ACup competition and an Eliminator.

For the Cup comp, we'll have a random draw of pairs, and the lowest score of that pair is knocked out. We might have to have a few byes dependent on numbers - or I might do it League Cup style with the top of the league getting a collective bye into the next round. Possibly we could do an FA Cup as well in the New Year.

Eliminator League - comments welcome. This would be a second mini-league which we'd all pile into. Each round, we'd lose the player with the lowest score in that round until at the end we'd have just one player left.

Can I have feedback on those parallel comps please?

Jonny Evans looks to be in midweek form. That man is a mistake looking for somewhere to happen.

Either that or he has money on Utd to lose.

2014-08-30 07:54:08 AM
And Phil Jones is just so clumsy, I have no idea what he is doing in the Utd team, let alone the England team.

In fairness, he is playing out of position. His natural slot is humping bricks on a building site somewhere.

I do like the idea of an Eliminator league for sure.

Poor krej55

2014-08-30 07:59:23 AM
From Fletcher forward this looks better for Utd.

But at the back, they still look capable of, say, passing the ball to the opposition with an open goal.

2014-08-30 08:02:23 AM
Jonny Evans has all of Evra's defensive weaknesses, plus a few of his own, with none of the attacking runs.

Even if it were possible I wouldn't want it. I'm struggling to think of the last decent signing SAF made, other than Robin van Persie? Or even a player developed from the academy?

2014-08-30 08:18:21 AM
Doodling to work out the maths for the Cup Comp. 50 players doesn't work out conveniently as a power of two, so:

Add in 6 byes into the random draw to get 28 pairings. Add four byes to the next round to make it 32 and then we have a route.

So.

Round 1 - 50+6. 28 progress.
Round 2 - 28+4. 16 progress
Round 3 - 8 progress
Round 4 - 4 progress
Round 5 - 2 progress
Final.

Rounds to be played every third week with the draw the week before.

you could do 50 in first round to give 25, and have the 7 highest scoring losing players advance to give 32 and then it works down from there

I know how that is. I flirted with using it for Leicester-Arsenal. They're the kind of team that Arsenal has overlooked in the past.

I picked Utd but was guessing on high scoring game b/c of their defensive weaknesses. I see Jonny Evans tried like hell to spot Burnley a goal or two.

2014-08-30 08:36:14 AM
Allegedly, Blackett has played every minute for Utd so far this season. That's not exactly a good stat.

At times, Mata, Rooney, and RvP all seem to be running into the same space.

I'm trying to stay positive, and I know it's going to get better when Shaw, Rojo, and Blind are available; but there's a lot of "accumulated debt" in this squad, and I suspect it's going to take more than one season to fix.

Nice to see a scrappy Man United team hang in there.

I like that Burnley wears Aston Villa's kits. They should just pick a different team to wear each week.

I vaguely recall that in my childhood, some Subbuteo teams were labeled for more than one team, and IIRC the same set could represent Villa or Burnley.

Oh that'd be horrible. Kinda like the time I had Bari and Leeds meet in FIFA. Bari's kit is white with red lettering, Leeds' is white with blue lettering.

Or successful medium signings either. From memory, among the last two players he brought in were Zaha and Buttner. Before that there was Jones, Wellbeck, Cleverly; and a clutch of players who looked good for a season then faded, like Kagawa and Hernandez.

I made similar comments to my SO last week and she almost spit coffee everywhere. At least Burnley has a solid kit rather than striped.
