FTA: The resolution can't come soon enough for his daughter as she was excited about starting her freshman year in high school and still wants to attend Virgin Valley.

"I hope that somehow figures this out because I still would like to go to this school," she said "I really don't want to be homeschooled."

It's kind of telling that the daughter doesn't want to be homeschooled.

He really wants his showdown, with a whole panoply of charges, doesn't he?

Some people just want to be the martyr...

Of course, it just means that there will be a jurisdictional fight to see who gets first crack at him. Which is exactly what he's hoping for. The longer the bureaucrats argue, he more he can squirrel away.

As loathe as I am to agree with the Bundy's, I have to agree.  What the hell is the problem with a goddamned pocket knife, provided it's tiny?  It is a tool, and if you're a rancher, not having one in your pocket is a problem.

You could do more damage stabbing someone in the neck with a pen.

I don't know about that.  She'shiat puberty and is interested in boys her age she isn't related to.  No matter how good or bad the home schooling actually is, she probably craves the interaction she can't get at home.

While I agree it is a stupid rule, it is the rule, and fighting it is not worth your daughters social and academic life.

I've got three holes and nine stiches from a Swiss Army knife that a skinhead managed to sneak into the club. He tagged me while I was restraining one of his buddies, and I got lucky that he went for the ribs, as opposed to my throat.

The problem is that the rules are there for a reason, and they KNOW what the rules are, and just don't think that they should apply to them. Leave the pocket knife in the car, or at home.

If his kids were attending "Bear Gryllis Elementary" in the Alaskan Bush, or all converted to Sikhism, I would say Bundy's insistence that the carry a knife at all time was warranted, but as it is I think the kids will survive 6 hours a day without instant access to a cutting tool.  This reeks more of an excuse than a reason, and I think the social workers should have a LONG talk with the eldest daughter

The video in the article shows the knife. She's using it to cut up a watermelon.

If you can cut a large fruit with it, you can cut a person.

Also, WTF is up with Bundy's face?

Well... yeah.  Of course.  Just like his dad petitioning for an armed militia to camp out at the ranch because of the tyranny of BLM rules, instead of paying his damn grazing fees.

I get that.  I also get why it's a rule- because some dumbfark brought one to school once, caused havoc, parents went bugfark crazy, the school board got sued, and now nobody can have nice things.  It's the same reason I need a police check to volunteer at my daughter's school, why field trips are so hard to plan, and why kids can't have a snowball fight at recess.

I understand it, doesn't mean I have to like it.  And on top of that, it makes things like carrying a kirpan a controversy, when it should be no more serious than wearing a necklace with a cross on it.

I guess this is just a sign of me getting old.  I grew up in rural Alberta in the '70s.  Since these were mostly farming and ranching kids, almost every one had a small pocket knife on him from at least the age of 11 or 12, including at school.  It would have never occurred to anyone to use that as a weapon on another person.  I would imagine it's much the same way in rural Nevada.

I guess that's why I sympathize with Bundy- He's a conservative, so necessarily invested in the way things used to be.  It made perfect sense for the time, and probably would today if it weren't for the intervening 30 years of stupidity and lawsuits.

It makes sense in the fact that he's looking for attention and to deflect years of dodging grazing fees, civil complaints, and this is naught but more deflection and an attempt to make himself look as if he and his family are put upon by the state, as opposed to bugsh*t crazy and looking to KEEP getting handouts and take advantage of their neighbors. He's NOT fighting the "good fight" against tyranny, he's looking to drum up support and hold his kids' education hostage to keep the noose from closing in from lawsuits, and eventual arrest. Rules for thee, but not for me is all that he's looking at. Just another asshat looking for someone else to subsidize his business and his life. Nothing more, and certainly, nothing less.

Bundy said he plans to speak with school administrators in hopes they will allow his children to carry knives with them on campus to get this matter resolved.

While you're at it, why not ask if they'll make an exception to the "no guns on school grounds" rule for your crotch-crabs, too? Or the "no smoking on campus" rule? Or the "don't vandalize cars in the parking lot" rule? Shiat...why should ANY rules apply to the Bundys?

School isn't a ranch. If they can't behave appropriately around other people, maybe they're better off separating themselves from society. That way, everyone wins. We don't have to listen to their stupid derp and they don't have to bathe.

No, you really can't.

Bundy doesn't see a knife as a weapon and explained he's taught his children it is essential to always have a knife with them.

No, it's really not. Sister Sue isn't going to need to cut a length of twine in math class.

Where did this attention-whoring ass-hat get the idea that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed?

This is a pretty bigoted thing for the school to do. What footing do they have for preventing Bundy from passing on his culture to his kids? I bet if some Filipino or Indonesian kid said he needed to carry a knife, the school would be sooooooooo accommodating and look at it as a "teachable moment" where immigrant kids can share their culture in their new home country. But a sovereign citizen and his children? Ha! Sad to see the civil rights movement of the 60s come full circle and turn into 21st Century racism.

Why was he given the option of pulling them out of school.  I thought bringing a weapon to school would be automatic suspension or expulsion?  I am not a fan of zero tolerance, but if you suspend a kid for a farking pop tart that looks like a gun, shouldn't there me serious consequences for a real weapon?
