This charge will get tossed -- getting thrown in jail for hanging up the phone on a detective? Seems like a stretch. Did she call him back later?

You forget - she's brown, and a stripper to boot. Even if she gets ACLU's top dog on it, she's spending some time in a cell (even just a few hours for "processing").

This is sad, but I believe that everything about this story is true.... I would believe that the young mother was in such a difficult position that she felt like she had to get off the phone, and get to work right then... in order to support her daughter.  Not saying it was the right thing to do... but I could empathize with her, if she were in that dire a situation.  I'm glad nothing awful happened to the child.  She will probably lose her job as a result of all of this...

Good point. I note in the police report they even list her place of employment by name. Would they do that if she worked at some random office job?

Only if that random office is a "jiggle joint", as the "journalist" colorfully describes.

One of the most touching moments of my life, was when I was in a strip club to deliver some bar ware, before the club opened, and one of the dancers was selling girl scout cookies to the bouncers and other girls in order to support her daughter's troop.  It made be remember that they are human beings too.  From my experience dealing with them on a professional bases, and not as just some guy going to the club, I have learned that some strippers are really nice girls, with a good character, some are horrible people, and most are just normal people who fall somewhere in between.

No. All the nuns I've met selling girl scout cookies for their daughters have had a chip on their shoulder.

Yes, that is the point.  Strippers are people.  It seems obvious, but it is often overlooked or ignored in our rush to generalize and judge.

It's not "a stretch", it's completely farking over the top insane.

Not talking to the police is NOT a crime.  I don't care if she called back later or not, the cop arresting her needs to be jailed for false arrest.

While I appreciate the point, its insulting that it even needs to be explained. Its also funny that the woman who is taking a guys money for showing something all women hve is the bad person, but the asshole who is paying good money to see her butt is the sane one in the relationship.

So the mom dropped her daughter off and went to work and grandma reports the kid missing. I find it hard to believe that she just answered the phone and hung up I'd bet it was more that she didn't have any more info to give and the police kept trying to get more out of her and she had to get back to work. If the police really cared enough that they tossed her jail they could have gone to speak to her in person. If you've ever been interviewed by police they really don't take that you don't have any more info to offer as an answer. I once had a store I was working at broken into after hours and they kept grilling me like I was sitting at a desk and must have seen the entire thing. "Did you see any strange cars?, did you have any unusual customers?, when did you leave?, when did you get to work?, do you have any other security tapes? etc. The answer that I left at 6pm, lived 40 minutes away, and showed up when I got the call from the alarm company didn't seem to cut it. At the time it was annoying but now I see that I'm lucky I didn't get tossed in jail.

In my view, she would get fired on the spot, if she didn't get right to work.  So, what the hell was she supposed to do?!
Are we to assume that when a cop calls you on the phone, anything but undivided attention will get you arrested for obstruction?!

ONE of the problems with eugenics is that the criterion for proper genetic material are usually touted as objective, when in fact many IQ tests ate culturally biased. Do you want fewer black and hispanic people?

buy you forget, she's hot, so the hot/crazy curve comes into effect.  Now, the question is thus: does the hotness factor that we keep seeing in hot teacher sex scandals translate to a hot woman who needs to make money and hangs up on a cop?

The charge won't get tossed they'll offer her a plea and she'll take it.  Cops know this.  If people actually fought BS charges in court they would disappear quite quickly.  Instead we have a system where a cop can arrest you for literally anything he wants and list it as obstruction or resisting without violence with impunity.

I actually have more trouble with "proof you can swing it financially". To actually be financially secure to raise a child would require accumulated wealth to put you in the US top 10% or so. There are literally no "safe" jobs or even "safe" industries.

I'm a programmer, and sorta halfway decent, and I still estimate a 25% chance that the kids, missus and I will die by starvation.

/To be fair, I dick around on Fark all day, and one of the two kids is a tard, so she'll always be dependent on me

Unless there's more to this story that's not present in the article, I think this says more bad things about the police officer, and the police, than it does about the mom.  There are plenty of low-end jobs where it's "Be here on the dot of 9:00 or you're fired", and plenty of people working in those low-end jobs who would have difficulty finding other work.  The fact that the job in question is "stripper" shouldn't enter into it.

Yep. Even if she said, "I have to get on stage, call me back in 20 minutes," they'd still hit her with the omg-black-stripper-bad-single-mother stick. Obstruction, my ass.
