The investigation into the accident is still open. I wouldn't let him onto the track until that is resolved. Otherwise you run the risk of having let a killer back onto the race track.

Good.  Let's see who is stupid enough to get out of their car.

Well, honestly they should have been able to complete an investigation by now.

I am guessing part of the reason he's going back on the track is his team.  While he might be able to survive not driving for a while (he can easily never drive again), he is a team owner.  He can't let his team fail.

If there were criminal charges coming, they would have by now.  No way that he's not getting sued by Ward's family but there won't be criminal charges.  You're welcome to continue rooting against him and not buying his merchandise, but it's not going to happen no matter how much you dislike him.

By killer you clearly mean the guy who has to carry the burden of someone else's death due to the deceased person's stupidity.

Got some bites on that.

He'll never be the same. One thing I do hope is that NECKAR and the hundreds of local tracks get more diligent about that kind of on track bullshiat. Settle it behind the haulers after the checker like you're supposed to.

SquiggsIN: Far, I hate NASCAR but, I saw the video. A moron walked into oncoming traffic and is dead. End of story. I hope his family gets nothing.

But, don't you understand? He walked into the path of a car being driven by a famous person.

That means he gets an automatic entrance into Valhalla, and Tony Stewart is banned for life from NASCAR and should face the death penalty for murder.

Stewart has majority share in the 4 and 10 teams, almost no stake in anything else (which includes the 14 team). Gene Haas calls all the shots there. Frankly, I'm a little surprised his sponsors are OK with him in the car, seeing as how they've pulled ads for the past several weeks. My guess is that they don't want to cause a shiatstorm, and will ride out the remainder of this season as quietly as possible and see what public sentiment is come December.

Tony made a statement at a press conference earlier. Yeah, he was just reading something his lawyers wrote, but he looks like his head is farked. I doubt he'll be racing for much longer, and I really don't imagine him being the same aggressive Smoke on and off track.

I just realized, the Ward family was one of those silly groups that names all the kids with the same starting letter.

I just saw the conference myself. I don't think he's in the right state of mind to go back racing, honestly. Maybe things are different when he gets back in the car himself, but he's still not back to his normal self (if that's even possible).

I haven't got to see or hear it, but from what you are all describing, it sounds like Stewart is really not okay... :(

I knew he wouldn't be okay for awhile but... I wonder if he shouldn't just take the rest of the year off. Regroup.

This is heartbreaking to hear.

You know full well that is not my position. I don't believe Stewart intended to kill or even injure Ward. But this tragedy was the direct result of Stewart's recklessness, arrogance and lack of personal control.

That's a difference without a distinction. But you know what: the kid was emulating that type of behavior, and that's where Mr. Stewart and his cohorts have some responsibility.

2014-08-29 09:00:08 PM
I think the prosecutor and Stewart's lawyers would say this is a difference with a huge distinction. Of course Ward was foolish, but are you suggesting he threw himself under Stewart's wheel? You argue that the incident was unavoidable from Stewart's standpoint. I disagree. You want to explain away Stewart's prior history. I say this incident was completely consistent with that history. Let's agree to disagree - I still think a jury will make the ultimate decision.

I don't think he ever saw him. Stewart is on the track where the corner workers told him to be, and the kid was right there, where I've never seen anyone in what has to be over 100 sprint car races.

It's honestly a pretty ho-hum deal until the kid gets out of the car and runs down onto the track.

Watch the whole video that starts on the front stretch and ends with the arrival of the safety truck, and you'll see why I think that
