The lazy-ass kid who sells powdered lemonade?   At least use real lemons.

The Kid sounds awesome. He mows lawns and sells lemonade to pay for his cellphone and take him mom out to dinner.

That's a farking solid kid. Grats to his mom.

Does he have backward spelled letters on the lemonade stand? It's not real lemonade if there aren't.

A fine bootstrappy youngster. I'm sure when he grows up to be a libertarian business owner he will claim that he did it all himself and that his employees deserve the minimum wage he will surely give them.

Well, in a way I can see the old man's point.
Would anyone want, let's say, a neighbor having garage sales ALL the time, every weekend?
That's an illegal business. There are city ordinances banning this. Is a lemonade stand exempt because it's cute?
The old man is guilty of the same.

fark both of them.
hey... HEY!!! That's my lawn!

I wonder Doug Wilkey is also a Republican who receives government assistance. I know a girl who was against socialized medicine / universal healthcare (I mean to the point of not being able to talk about it without getting angry) while her kids were on CHIP. Doug seems hypocritical enough.

If my neighbors kids wanted to set up a stand on my lawn (better exposure to a kind of busy street) I would let them but dad has to mow my old lawn first.

I was a kid once. My gig was selling pigeons. I actually made a few bux from it.

Doesn't the government play a crucial role in making sure that water is clean and abundant?

So, I'm a volunteer driver for seniors...  This nice old lady was telling me the story about how they lost their kid at the fair, and when they finally found him, he was outside the gate, collecting tickets from those departing, and selling them at half price to those entering.  Of course he's currently self employed.

Now you know who to thank for all of those hand stamps as you enter events.

On the one hand, it's just a kid's lemonade stand. On the other hand, it's apparently a year-round venture which he has been running for a couple of years, in front of someone else's house. If I lived around there, it would probably piss me off, too.

Of course, I'm a misanthrope by nature, so maybe it's just me.

What do you mean "in front of someone else's house"? Was it across the street or literally on the sidewalk in front of his house?

Because that makes a difference. If it was on he sidewalk than he could be held liable and I can see the problem. if it was across the street, while possibly annoying, not more so than a million other things in suburbia.

Kids become teenagers, it's best to let them be kids, because they remember who were the neighborhood assholes when they become teenage assholes.

Right, but in the crotchety, illegal-home-business-running guy's mind, it's some kid he doesn't know, coming in to his neighborhood, hanging out with his friends and selling crappy lemonade. I'm not saying he's right in continuing to harangue the city about putting the kid out of business, but it's a little more intrusive than what is normally thought of as a lemonade stand.

2014-08-29 01:25:25 PM
Ok.. I think the old guy is a dbag for complaining... HOWEVER! If he gets in trouble for running a business out of his house without a license.. And this kid doesn't.. Can he sue the city for enforcing the law on him but not someone else due to age, gender, race?

From another article:

The 12-year-old had tested various locations and hours of operation before settling on 3 to 7 p.m. at Patricia Avenue and San Salvador Drive. He got a neighbor's permission to pitch a homemade yellow sign in the grass and sell his fare from Tupperware on a white card table.

I don't know how far away the kid lives from there, because I can't Google the name of his business and get his home address, unlike the dude running a financial services company from his house.
