Holy farking...I... *slams head on desk*

I know the kid is no longer a minor, so DCS can't get involved, but these pathetic excuses for "parents" need to be shamed on every corner of the farking internet.  Absolutely disgusting, vile behavior.

I'd normally wish this on no one, but these asshats need to get the /b treatment, just like the "you dun goofed, police gonna backtrace you" guy from a couple of years ago.

2014-08-29 12:53:56 AM
Stories like this make me wish there was a god, so people like that would have to face her and explain how they got from "love thy neighbor" to "you're a damn queer."

He needs to contact the police and file a suit against these people for damages. Stick a fork in your family relationships...they made their choice; not him.

2014-08-29 04:06:55 AM
Because Jesus said to be horrible to people who are slightly different or disagree with you on anything. Yeah, Jesus was always about condemnation and violence because someone loves another person.

Here's to hoping this kid lives an amazingly wonderful life and his family someday learns what love really means.

I like how "raising you" means putting a roof over your head and food on your table.

Not any sort of emotional support.

You know.
Jesus once said his greatest commandments were to love God, and love all mankind as you would love yourself.

These people are either ignoring that commandment, or they really really hate themselves.

Or both.

Why would they want the video taken down?  I mean, if their choice is righteous and in keeping with God's word, they should be proud of what they did.  They should want it shared widely as an example to other families on how to deal with their sinful children.

I mean, are they embarrassed by fulfilling God's will?

Thanks to our quickly evolving society as relates to gays, there's a great chance that kid will live a good life, and an even better chance his disgusting, worthless family will learn what it's like to be horrible bigots in full view of the internet.

What a bunch of disgusting people.  I hope the kids realizes quickly it will be in his best interest to just cut ties and get over this chapter in his life.  The sooner he can just stand up straight, not care about his asshole ancestors, and move on, the better.  Yes, it will be difficult, but once he gets over the shock and disappointment, he'll be better for it.

And why would someone who is uncomfortable around gays be so mean?  This guy is their child/grandchild.  If they are really put off by the gay "decision", couldn't they just tell him to leave that part of his life closeted away from them?  I have a gay cousin my dad is uncomfortable around, but we all get along because it's not like cuz' fills in every detail and walks around in chaps & boas*.

Wow...just wow.  It still boggles my mind how the fundies have completely missed the messages of Jesus (love, forgiveness, turn the other cheek, etc) and have so much hatred for teh gheys.

It's still your kid asshats.

It amazes me how anyone thinks that someone would choose to be gay.  Sure, someone would choose to be potentially ostracized from my family and friends.

The comment that the step-mom made was rather enlightening:.  "but I believe in the word of God, and God creates nobody that way. It's a path that you have chosen to choose. ... You go by all the scientific stuff you want to. I'm going by the word of God."   I never fully understood how fundies deny science, but that made it perfectly clear.

I guess the other thing I don't understand...is where did all these fundies come from?  I don't remember that many of them growing up in the 70's and 80's (aside from Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggert, and Jim Bakker and I remember thinking back then the people that followed them were nuts).    WTF happened?  Were they always around but less militant?  Or is it just my perception that they've totally run amok?

You know how children go through a period where they want nothing to do with the other gender? Little boys will say, "I don't like girls, they're gross!"  I was wondering what it's like for gay children. When a gay male goes through this period, does he say "I don't like boys, they're gross!"?

Like everything else we read about, the internet enables a large audience to hear a small voice.

And horrible family ostracization instances like these, as well as gun crimes, murders, serial killings, mass killings, and most crimes in general, are down from decades past.  We all just wish they were gone completely, since we've never been more "civilized" and informed.  It's the never-ending quest for peace that makes stories stick in our minds.

There's that. However, it happens to too many kids without the ability to upload the family's assholeness onto YouTube.

But, I've been assured here on Fark that gay rights are done, and gays don't need to keep fighting against discrimination.  So, this must be a dream or something.

This could easily have been me - I came out and the Christian side of the family did everything but beat me.  The other, non-religious, side (with whom I lived) accepted me.  Kind of like accepting a disease, but no shaming or beatings.  I would have been on the street if I had been with the Christian side of the family.  As it stood, one half of my family wouldn't speak to me for over 20 years.

Aaaaaaaaaand the true colors of the religious come out in that video.

1.  Mom concerned about what the quilting bee is going to think so she disowns her son.
2.  Dad thinking that money = raising and that you should bow down before him.
3.  Gramma thinking that talking to invisible people + a book = science.

He hit the religious bullshiat trifecta in a single video.

T'was the same when I came out when I came out in the mid to late 90's, too.  Only difference is I was dumb enough to come out when I was still in high school.  Out of the house with only my school textbooks.  If it weren't for a very kindly gay manager at the Pizza Hut I worked at, who let me sleep on his sofa til I figured something out, I don't know what I would have done.

I'm glad to see that his gofundme is up to around $70K, and he's pledging a portion to charities that help people in his situation, and to set up a site for teenagers who are gay come for advice and support.  Seems like he's doing good things with the gift he's been given, and has about as good a head on his shoulders as any 20 year old I can think of.
