FTFA:

President Obama's talk of taking executive action on immigration next month and Republican threats to thwart him by blocking certain funding measures.

Why won't he just lead?

Yes please. Do this during an election year and remind us just what incompetent assholes you are.

A government of the people by the people and for the people should not be controlled by a couple of assholes.

Put that on a bumpersticker.

Actually - tattoo it on the necks of those that would shut down our government.

Steve King (R) said  "all bets are off" for passing a continuing resolution if President Obama decides to take executive action on immigration, and Rubio himself hinted the same thing in a Brightfart interview.

Yet a spokesman for Rubio said, "The only people talking about shutting down the government are partisan extremists..." [referring to Democrats]

I'm beginning to suspect that these people don't really respect the truth as much as we would prefer.

Assholes.

I don't understand the position. If Obama takes action on immigration, then what - the GOP won't pass a budget until he repeals it? Is that the idea?

This x 100! Even if they only shut it down for a day, it will be a fresh reminder of the intransigence and refusal to govern in the GOP.

Wanna know something interesting? I have a friend going to law school, and she did a recent presentation on the idiocy of the whole "Suing a President" thing. One thing the Right forgets to mention in all of this "Executive Order" bullshiat? These are STILL subject to judicial oversight and review. Unconstitutional and illegal actions can STILL be overturned.

In other words, he's not even a very good tyrant, he forgot to make the "TheTyrant gets to make all of the rules" rule first...

"If indeed you move forward on such a decision, I believe it will close the door to any chance of making progress on immigration reform for the foreseeable future," Rubio wrote.

In other words.. "If you do something, we will continue to do nothing."

The amount of restraint it must take to keep himself from issuing a monumental smackdown from the Oval Office must be immense.  All he'd have to do is state reality.

"Find me a Republican who thinks *more* citizens should vote, not *less*.  Find me a Republican who thinks everyone should have the freedom to make their own medical decisions.  Find me a Republican who thinks that protecting the American public from corporate malfeasance with organizations like the FCC, the USDA, the FDA, the CPSC, and the CFPB makes sense.  For that matter, find me a Republican who has *not* proposed or endorsed laws to remove competition, regulations and protections for the American people.  Find me a Republican who thinks that just maybe, the Upper Big Branch disaster should be taken as a sign that we need to strengthen mining regulation, not weaken it.  Find me a Republican who thinks that salmonella recalls mean we should be taking a *closer* look at the facilities processing our food, not letting the wolves guard the henhouse.  Find me a Republican who thinks a government functioning and continuing to serve its people is better than shutting the whole thing down to score political points with extremists.  Find me a Republican who thinks ordinary Americans being paid a living wage is a good idea.  Find me a Republican who thinks returning to the days of robber barons is a *bad* idea.  Find me a Republican who thinks that everyone should be paid the same for the same work, regardless of their gender.  Find me a Republican who thinks that consenting adults should be able to marry anybody they choose.  Find me a Republican who believes the American people should have affordable access to medical care.  Find me a Republican who thinks that any of those things are more important than partisanship and winning elections."

Seriously, the list just goes on and on and on.  It'd make for an epic speech.

We're not going to shut down the government, we'll simply not pass the continuing resolution that funds the government.

I got this from Hot Air which is talking about a Politico and Breitbart article, but here you go.

In an interview with POLITICO this month, [Mitch] McConnell said he'd "guarantee" that a future GOP Senate would attach policy riders to spending bills, daring Obama to veto them. Two months earlier, according to The Nation, McConnell made similar promises to conservative donors.

But McConnell also has predicted little drama this September, when he believes Congress will swiftly avert a shutdown and return home for the midterm elections...

[Marco] Rubio told conservative website Breitbart that if Obama moves on an executive order that could allow millions of undocumented immigrants to stay in the United States, Republicans may tie a vote on overturning that action to a must-pass spending bill in September. Democrats swiftly moved to attack Rubio after his comments, linking immigration hardliner Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) to Rubio after King said on Wednesday that executive immigration action would alter "the dynamic of any continuing resolution."

So no clean CR if he acts on Immigration which the House won't do and Boehner said Obama should do himself before the break.

It's sad, but I know people who still blame Barack Obama for the government shut down.

If Republicans shut down the government again, those same people will just say Democrats shut down the government twice.
