Scortched adj A portmanteau of the words scorched and crotch.

/At least that's my guess.

Doesn't matter, really. The lone subby who keeps posting earnings reports from Marketwatch every day gets their greenlights without anyone even making a fuss.

I was guessing "scorch" and "scotch". Can you scorch scotch? Would you even want to?

The thing about Williams-Sonoma is that you can find every piece of cookware they sell on-line for less money.  I suspect the only things they make a profit on are organic peanut brittle and artisan salt.

Some of the things people cut back on in this economy: acorn twine holders, potato gloves, waffle batter dispensers.

Think I made any of those up?

Wrong.

Bullshiat.

I defy you to show me a whisk for less than 39.99.

Looks like I'll have to start shopping at Spatula City again if WS folds..

Only $230 for this monogrammed cutting board.  It's round because I have no idea.

So...all other things being equal...why do I never see "Stock analyst incorrectly guesses what *CompanyX's earnings would be for 284th consecutive quarter, is fired and thrown off the balcony for being incompetent"?

On a more serious note, check out your local restaurant supply store.  Their prices will be higher than e.g. Ikea or Wal-Mart, but the quality is at least on par with higher-end stores (e.g. Williams-Sonoma, Hardistee's) and at much lower prices.

Bring a measuring tape, though.  I once bought a dishwasher-safe wooden spoon that looked like a reasonable size in the store, but when I got it home I discovered that the handle was so long that it just barely fit in my dishwasher.

Thanks for the tip. I need an in-between rusty Chinese crap, and obscenly marked-up.

This.

People who put their wedding gift registry on Williams-Sonoma hate their friends.

We didn't, but got two gifts from there anyway - a borosilicate glass teapot (which was kind of neat, it had an infuser also made of borosilicate glass), and I can't remember the other thing (it was made of wood). Come to think of it the coffee bean grinder might have come from there, too.

I don't think I have been in a Williams Sonoma store in 20 years.

I got a Staub cast iron grille pan from there for like $50.  I ain't complaining.  Also their kitchen towels are excellent.

You probably could have picked up a Lodge for 1/3 of the price.

the staub ones are enameled. i have a lodge iron pot and skillet, and they're great. but my staub dutch oven gets a ton of use.

and their kitchen towels are great. we have dozens of them, all bought whenever they go on sale.

The Lodge was about the same price. They're fairly expensive up here in Canada, I find.

W-S also *can* give good deals if you talk to the store employees and time it right.

We got the 10 piece AllClad Classic set for like 389 the day before sendback day from the manager. It normally retails for like 749.

Picked up a KA ice cream bowl and attachment at WS for less than Macy's wanted. The opposite was true for the waffle maker.
