Sounds like something my dad might do; hunt pigeons with a bow that is. He's much more careful, however. And there really isn't anybody around for him to hit with the arrow either, besides my mom. And she won't go outside while dad is "hunting wabbits".

Pro-tip.

Let the emergency medical staff remove anything penetrating your body.

A nurse had the sense not remove an a sharp arrow-like thingy that had penetrated her son's chest. It was small enough that she could tape a cup over the protruding end then race the kid to the hospital. Turns out it had penetrated an important blood vessel. Had she pulled it out, he would have bled out very quickly.

It doesn't sound lick it really penetrated that far.

And how about telling us the draw weights of the bow?

Also, didn't he notice it hit the girl?

He's dumb for shooting it where it could hit someone and he's an ass for not taking care of the girl.

He's dumb and he's an ass.

Dumbass!

Both I and my maternal grandfather have stories that end with us pulling makeshift arrows out of various limbs from about that age, so it's not as uncommon as you'd think.  This is the reason that child access to firearms is legally required to be supervised.

Albeit, this kid wins for  her accidentally getting shot by an  adult and not the other way around.

Wait. I thought with arrows you break off the fletchings and push it through to the other side.

I wonder is depressed native Americans committed suicide with a bow and arrow? I have this strange vision of some old chief holding a bow and arrow to his head.

I could envision some circumstances where that would make sense, but it's definitely not a general solution.  So if you get shot through a limb to the point where the tip is sticking out the other side, then probably yes (assuming you have the means to stop the subsequent bleeding).  But if you are shot in the chest and the arrow tip got lodged against a rib, then absolutely not.

In this particular case it sounds like the arrow wasn't very deep as it ricocheted off the ground before hitting her.  It might of fallen out as much as was pulled out.

That's what a lot of precious snowflakes lack nowadays: the resiliency to take an arrow in the back, to deal with it quietly and efficiency, and keep on moving without a lot of whining. But really, has that ever been all that common? I know a lot of my pioneer women ancestors were tough enough to take on an indian attack but they were merely the survivors of those who were tough enough to take on a month or two at sea in a boat the size of a small moving van with 100 sea-sick passengers.

Kudos, little girl. Now go and find that archer and beat him to death with his own bow.

The girl's mother reported the incident to police after she came home from the walk with a puncture wound in her back, according to a police report.

Wait.  So they both got struck with the same arrow?   Magic arrow!
