If you can't unseat Mighty Matt Moore from a backup position... maybe quarterbacking isn't for you.

is he a dumbass for this or in general?

FTA:  His last regular season appearance was with the Chiefs in 2012, when he threw two touchdowns and eight interceptions across 1,141 yards in eight starts.

Generally speaking, I prefer that my QB's have those numbers reversed.

My cousin is an old friend of his. She can vouch for this.

She also says that Moore is quite content as a backup -- it's a good payday with little risk of injury and low expectations.

He should just change positions to TE.  He's obviously NOT an NFL QB.

I've been saying for years that NFL backup quarterback is one of the sweetest gigs in the world--especially if you're behind a durable starter. I guess I'm not the only one who's noticed.

Matt Moore turned down a contract offer or two from other teams to remain Miami's No. 2. Of course it's about guaranteed easy money, but he really likes it here in South Florida and, apparently, likes the Dolphins (being a Dolphins fan, we have sucked for decades so I don't quite get that). Seems like a guy we'd like to have beers with.

Manziel should take note. This is his future.

Hell, I would be fired from my job for the same, so consider that an upgrade. In fact, many places you can't work if you smoke tobacco. But all of that is beside the point. As mindless as I think marijuana rules are, the NFL rules on it are pretty clear. These guys take these chances knowingly and in doing so decide to let down their teammates who are living by the same rules. The rule is stupid, but that stupidity is exceeded by that of such players.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Hopefully the pot prosecution is seeing the beginning of the end after the actions in Colorado and other states decriminalizing it. One day pot prosecution will be looking upon as stupid as not allowing women to vote.
But I can see where corporate types would hate giving up the leverage it gives them to punish.

I remember giving up Peyton Hillis for him and thinking that maybe, just maybe, Josh MsDaniels wasn't cut out to make personnel decisions. Then he drafted Tebow and I started crafting a rail to run him out of town on.

Much like as someone else pointed out above, even if it was legal it can be a banned substance.  Many companies will fire you if you smoke a cigarette during non-work hours.  Even as a legal substance mj could be something that is stated as a no-no by the league.  They know this (and for the millions of dollars they are paid) accept this.  Anyone who equates a job that pays that much as slavery is an idiot.

Still not as sweet as a place kicker. If you're good, you can make millions, don't have to learn the playbook, work as hard in training camp, spend endless hours watching tape etc..

You do, however, get to try to tackle a guy who is stronger and faster than you, and risk getting run over by his blockers, as well, if the kick returner breaks contain. The NFL is taking steps to cut down the frequency of returns, so admittedly less of a concern than it used to be. Although it's more of a thing for punters, you can also get crushed by somebody trying to block your kick, and if the ref thinks a blocker pushed them into you, or they get a piece of the ball in the process, there won't even be a flag.

The placekicker is one of the most undervalued positions in the NFL.  More games are won/lost based on a kick than anything else.  It's also a position where you really can't play hurt.

To find the best sports gig, you need to consider:
1. Longevity - if you're gone in 2 years, you may have to get a real job.

2. Earning potential - if you live pretty small, you may never have to get a real job

3. Off-field work - work seems like a real job, let's avoid that

4. On-field work - to quote American Beauty: I'm looking for the least possible amount of responsibility.

Kicker has very little on field work, but has to produce in big situations, and like a golf swing, a consistent kick takes a lot of practice to maintain. Add in a short career, unless you are elite, and low potential earnings, and that us not a great example.
