Damn. At first I read that as "dismemberment".

The complaint against her is for something she did before joining the IRS.  Nevertheless, you'll hear how this is somehow connected to Obama and how he shut down every single one of the Teabagger 501c groups and threw the patriots in charge into FEMA camps.

I don't know how you could make a connection like that... but it will happen.

Thanks!

Every scandal is an Obama scandal, and even some things that aren't scandals at all are still Obama scandals. I hope I cleared that up for you.

Well, see, take out "somehow" and just say "this is connected to Obama..." and that's how Conservative Facts (tm) work.

Wonder how much more incompetence there is in the IRS due to the apparent lack of backround checks.

I wonder if those positions get background checks before hiring - if they don't have to review filing data from citizens or corporations, but instead provide advice and guidance to the tax community maybe they didn't.  I don't know if a background check of whatever level would have been applied would have found what she did.

I don't know how somebody could come up with a list of most psychopaths by profession (psycopath, really?) but the list itself is not very good.  Isn't a Police Officer (#7) a Civil Servant (#10)?  Aren't there a ton of lawyers (#2) who are CEOs (#1), and Civil Servants at many levels?  There are journalists (#6) who are in the TV/Radio Media (#3).  If you watch the food network, you've seen some chefs (#9) who are also in TV/Radio Media.  I think some of the Food Network guys are sociopaths, but not psychopaths.

List sounds like you just pulled it out of your ass, without thinking much about it first.

I'm not a tea partier but I do note that the article never mentioned the President.  I know this is going to come as a little bit of a shock to most Farkers, but many conservatives (and not a few liberals, neutrals, commies, socialists, libertarians, monarchists, anarchists and other various ists) disliked the IRS before the Obama administration and will continue disliking it after there's a new president.  This dislike will probably persist even if the person actually likes the president a lot.

Aquapope: I wonder if those positions get background checks before hiring - if they don't have to review filing data from citizens or corporations, but instead provide advice and guidance to the tax community maybe they didn't. I don't know if a background check of whatever level would have been applied would have found what she did.

FTFA: She disclosed her possible disbarment proceedings to the IRS and let them know it was a possibility. Yes, the IRS does run background checks on their employees, but the flaw in their system (Ask anybody that works there) is that it is based primarily on disclosure. If you did something in your past, but tell the IRS that you did something, if you are qualified for the job, they will hire you. But if you did something unscrupulous in the past, and say nothing, likely you will fail the IRS background check.

Point is--One of the problems with federal agencies is that sometimes, so to speak, they hire car thieves as car salesmen. I am not sticking up for this woman, because she probably did something terrible, but state and federal agencies are riddled with people with criminal records who know how the game is played. Which is how the FBI can hire convicted hackers, and the IRS can hire former tax scammers for the sole purpose of catching more tax scammers. So, it really would help if we knew he specifics on that old personal injury case.

The coming days will tell us how this will play out. If you see the conservative media jump on this, you can bet that her disbarment proceedings will probably have been bankrolled by some conservative money and a false narrative will be formed. But I can already head off a potential talking point--That yes, the Government can and will hire former criminals to catch other people gaming the system, so hiring somebody with a shady background is not out of the ordinary. But if she's disbarred, she will lose her job, and the IRS will get somebody else. Simple as that.

Fair enough, but over the last several years a small but vocal segment on the right have blamed just about everything they dislike on Obama, even things that existed before he was President. So I was wondering how this was the Presidents fault and I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a connection. Maybe it wont happen on fark, but as soon as the story hits freeperville it will.

It seems pretty silly to me to base ones comments on what someone probably or inevitably said some where else, but knock yourself out.   I will say that in addition to being racists, they're just wrong.  This person apparently only misappropriated a couple grand and she might not even have stolen it but rather screwed up somehow.  Based on the evidence, that's not nearly unethical enough to qualify for a political position at the IRS under President Obama.

The Freeper's comment is both racist and ill-informed (the Obamas lost their licenses to practice law?), but all that notwithstanding I have to confess - the word "Vulvalicious" made me smile.

BMulligan:
the Obamas lost their licenses to practice law?

Yeah, that's typical partisan conspiracy-mongering.  Neither Obama has a currently active license to practice law; both used to.  So to the conspiracy-minded they "lost" it and OMG WHY and coverup &ct &ct.

The truth is neither of them is doing lawyer stuff any more so they asked the Illinois bar to put them in inactive status (regular inactive for the First Lady, retired for the President).  That saves them bar fees (more importantly, the embarrassment of being involuntarily suspended when they inevitably forget to pay a fee). and CLE requirements.   Either can reactivate their status with a request letter, a check and depending on how they do things in Illinois maybe a couple hours of refresher courses which they can do on the computer or get from colleagues.  So no, of course they didn't "lose" their law licenses.  They know exactly where they left them and they're still safely sitting there in case they want them back.

the Obamas lost their licenses to practice law?

Exactly. It's pretty much like saying that I "lost" my Idaho residency.

mrshowrules: Linux_Yes: Linux_Yes: putting 'ethics' and 'Lawyer' in the same sentence means you don't understand either word.  they can't be put together.  like oil and water.
