Yeah, I watched this "outrageous" video yesterday, she repeated the answers she'd gotten from some players, one of whom stated that he thought maybe Sam was avoiding communal showers because he didn't want to make anyone nervous. Sounds like the first guy volunteered the info on his own. She followed up with the other players, since it was brought up.

Jesus, to hear people talk, you'd think that's all she asked, and she mentioned nothing else. People gotta stop ruining these molehills, they're a biatch to build new roads around once you turn them into mountains.

I usually defend ESPN from the hate they get from being number 1 in their genre around here but even I thought this was ridiculous.

Of course, mentioning Sam at all after the draft until he makes the team was ridiculous to begin with but that didn't stop, oh, everyone and not just ESPN, from micro analyzing the 4th quarter preseason reps of a 7th round pick.

We're talking about professional football. Average team value in the billion-dollar range, and average stadium cost of around $400 million, and you're telling me that they can't put up $20 dividers?

My last two gyms have had stalls.  I think it was cheaper once upon a time to just build a communal shower.  I would imagine newer facilities don't have them.

Also, the initial statement was volunteered by someone, not coaxed out of them by this woman. I was more offended by 3 weeks of "Gay man joins NFL!" non stop coverage. After finding it mildly interesting, it was done, as far as I was concerned. This is just a non-controversey. Someone brought it up, she asked a couple of other people to see if they felt he was acting differently, and they said they hadn't, so it was over. Big farking deal.

I got a behind the scenes tour of Paul Brown Stadium once and we got to go everywhere. Two things that stuck out to me. First, the weight room was much, much smaller than I anticipated. It was explained to me that the guys do their weight training at home and in the off-season so they didn't need much at the facility. Second, there were no stalls on the showers. I thought it was bizarre for the same reason you did. Hell, we had divided showers at Ft. Benning when I was in basic. Why couldn't a professional football team have them, too. The showers were just nozzles extending from the wall like we had in high school.

He'll be on someone's practice squad. His success is against the 2nd string guys, but he's been good this preseason, it just happens that the Rams are deep at DL already, and they have another Undrafted Rookie guy who's been even better, apparently (Ethan Westbrooks). He has 3 sacks and 5 QB hits. (I know this is sad, but I have a source for preseason records), guys who have had even this kind of success (through 3 preseason games, no less), have always landed on a team for that season or at least the team's practice squad.

The only young guys from last preseason that put up those numbers (5 QB Hits+  and a sack or more) - with 4 preseason games (instead of the 3 that Sam has played to date are:

Benson Mayowa (Undrafted) - Made Seahawks team (active for 2 games)
Glenn Foster (Undrafted) - Made Saints team  (Played 12 games had 3 sacks)
Trevardo Williams (4th Round Pick) - Texans placed him on IR after injury in last preseason game, cut this season
Adewale Ojomo (Undrafted) - Didn't make Giants, signed to various practice squads in 2013 (Seahawks, Bills, Titans, Cowboys)
Justin Trattou (Undrafted) - Made Giants team, played 5 games for Giants, Expected to make Vikings roster in 2014

Again, this is only last years comparison, but I think that a team will pick Sam up if he gets cut, or he'll end up on Rams PS. Generally speaking, that kind of production, even against the 2nd teamers in preseason gets a shot.

perfect headline. The media is so out of touch with their audience. NOBODY CARES!!!

waiting for Sam to make his first sack, so the sports media can spray "FIRST GAY SACK" headlines everywhere. Fumble recovery, touchdown, etc. Also waiting for him to get penalized for something followed immediately by accusations that the officials are homophobic bigots...

Hmm... My understanding of the Bengals is that they are REALLY cheap when it comes to their facilities. They didn't have an indoor practice facility until last season, I believe. They also had less college scouts than every other NFL team, and I believe players had commented on how pitiful their workout facilities were compared to other teams.

Jack Lambert's Missing Teeth: I usually defend ESPN from the hate they get from being number 1 in their genre around here but even I thought this was ridiculous.

They don't get "hate" because they're #1, they get "hate" because they run stories in to the ground, they obsess over things or individuals so much (see: Favre Watch > Tiger > Manziel for just recent examples) that it becomes grating, they think that people outside of the New York City metro area and Boston give a damn about 5 minute segments about the Yankees or Red Sox, if they/ABC don't show a sport it gets minimal coverage (see: NHL) and, oh, have I mentioned how annoying hearing about Johnny Manziel is? Add to that they now own the rights to so many events that they're unavoidable.

Hope that helps.

I think that's true. Make sense that a Bengals rep wouldn't tell the tour that the reason the weight room is small is because they're cheap. But it paled in comparison to a major D-1 weight room. Those things are temples to the iron.

Sam will not clear waivers to get to the Rams practice squad. Period.

He's not quite a starter yet. Noone is trying to say he is.

But I would put *cash money* down that he doesn't clear waivers. He quicker now that he dropped some weight and turns the corner nicely, with a quick first step.

He'll get claimed.

By every indication from local media Sam is having a very very good training camp/pre season. The problem for him is that the guy he's competing with (Westbrooks) is doing even better plus has about 20lbs more weight.

Sam could still make the team and the Rams would use Westbrooks to defend against run plays and Sam against the pass.
