I don't get any of this. If you are going to send armor into a country why would you only send seven tanks. Ukraine, while militarily weaker than Russia, is more than capable of destroying any Russian tank. Why do such a provocative action with such a vulnerable force?

On Tuesday, in a continuation of the pattern, Kiev said it had captured a group of Russian soldiers who had entered Ukraine on a "special mission", while Moscow said they were there by mistake.

I hate it when that happens.

I think Putin is still trying the death by a thousand cuts, whilst saying blaming an overzealous staffer.

/incidentally I'm glad he found work after the Bush administration, I was worried his repeated fark ups would make him unemployable

As I recall, they've been sending Soviet era hardware to give the separatists the ability to claim that the armor they have are captured from Ukranian military.

That gets harder to believe after the Ukrainians have destroyed more "captured" tanks and APCs than Ukraine had to begin with...

What I don't understand is, why have we not parked satellites over the area, or worked with the Ukraine government to establish a recon drone presence blanketing the area, and given the URL to the live feed to the whole world?  That would shut down the liars pretty quick.  Oh sure, like Baghdad Bob, they'd keep lying, but at least the rest of us would know the truth.

The inability of Ukraine to properly account for weapons is just part of Putin's strategy.  I doubt Ukraine has any idea how many they are supposed to have.  Or at least that's what Putin is counting on me believing.

That LEGO kicks ass.

Also, Putin is doing what Putins do. He's taking every tiny liberty he can. He's not going to stop.
"Oh, you're sending a few guns in? Just a few? Knock it off."
"Oh, you're sending a few men in? Just a few? Knock it off."
"Oh, you're sending a few tanks in? Just a few? Knock it off."

These three steps are accomplished already, bright and clear as a Mojave Midsummer. What's the next step?

This is all just typical Western propaganda.  As we speak, Putin is skillfully orchestrating negotiations in Minsk and any day now Ukraine will be turned over to Russia.  If you had paid attention to the negotiations in Minsk, then you would know what is going on in Minsk.  Have you seen Minsk?  There's a lot that is happening in Minsk.  Minsk.

What's not perfectly clear about what's going on? Everyone knows and nearly everyone admits that Russia is walking, not marching, its army into Ukraine and no one is doing anything about it. Ukraine has no collective will. They're as fractured as can be. And none of that has to do with any non-Russian or non-Ukrainian government unless someone has a treaty with Ukraine specifically to "do something" about any of this.

There may be arms factories nearby. Many of the people in Ukraine's version of the CIA cross over to Russia. Russia would know all the secrets and where things are.

The claimed "Russian Relief Trucks Convoy" was to steal various military arms factories in Ukraine, entire factories, and take them over the border to Russia. Russians leaving Costco, Sams, or BJs must be a handful. Most of the white trucks were empty coming into Ukraine, they left filled. Ukraine manufactures quite a few arms for Russia. Russia is a little afraid of outsourcing anything right now.

My guess is: We have. While not having served in the military, I'm confident there is nobody in the Joint Chiefs who would say "Meh, we don't need to know what's going on over there... We'll just trust what the Ukrainians are telling us", therefore there are currently sats monitoring the situation live.

Now as to why we don't broadcast it live, what would be the point?  NATO and their leaders have all seen it (hence the unified sanctions on Russia), everyday Russians wouldn't believe it even if they saw it (Western Propaganda, don'tcha know), why would we want to reveal our sat capabilities to any other armed force (NK, Iran, etc...)?

I really think a lot of the military equipment to local LEAs was just maintenance costs transferal from military to local sources. As you said, anytime Uncle Sam wants his hardware back he's going to get it back. With plenty of operators, too.

They've sent a lot more than seven tanks. Do you expect them to send all their hardware in as one single formation at one single time? Russia is trying to pretend they aren't really invading Ukraine so they've been sending small convoys of equipment. Large troop movements would be too easily detectable from satellite observation.

Or at least 1 reporter?  There are reporters in the middle of the worst places on earth.  Ukraine doesn't even come close to that.  The fact that there are no reputable images of said events which are claimed to be repeated, gives a great deal of credence to the narrative of the claims being false.  Whether they are false or not isn't really important.  The fact that the media has largely ignored the entire conflict other than through lip service is more important/unsettling.

You have to have a grast of Putins voting base in Russia.  He's cornered the rural and older voting blocks, which means there's a lot of old school "Mother Russia" groupthink.  Since the Ukraine is seen as being traditionally Russian by these particular folks, Vlady gets to push those old nationalistic buttons and distract them from the giant shiathole their country has turned into.

Don't be so sure about that Russian journalists are already starting to make enquires about all the wounded Russian soldiers and fresh graves.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28949582 There is not much being said at all in public but a lot off angry noises are being made about Russia's involvement in private.

You don't necessarily want to use armor to fight armor. Armor is most effective against infantry or fortified positions. To tankbust, you want something like tank destroyers or helicopters. Tanks can fight other tanks effectively, but that's not their ideal role.
