Hmm, even Fox News' commenters can't seem to muster up very much outrage about this one, maybe because the editors almost completely expunged any mention of Obama's involvement.

When discussing the Medal of Honor as a "publicity tool", keep in mind that for most of the 19th century it was a borderline fraudulent award. Medals given out like candy - the Secretary of War promised one to every member of a Maine regiment (not the 20th) if they re-enlisted; something like 800 were given out, regardless if the men actually had re-enlisted. Then there was a couple of decades' worth of medals handed out for killing Indians; honorable acts of heroism like charging into a ravine and killing the people hiding from them.

everything in a Capitalist system is a publicity tool.  ex: hollywood movies can increase volunteer military recruit numbers.

young people believe that what they see on TV/movies is Real.

The award also will be given posthumously to Sloat, who was killed in action in Vietnam on Jan. 17, 1970, at age 20. Sloat, of Coweta, Oklahoma, picked up a live grenade triggered by a fellow soldier and used his own body to shield the blast and save his fellow soldiers.

Medal of Honor or Darwin Award?  There's a very fine line.

Be aware that you're talking to a guy who said that the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee wasn't powerful enough to get a congressional hearing on something.

True. I gotta say, though, the ones handed out in 1900 were largely deserved.

That's the "joke". That's why he had to include the words "You won" at the end. It's almost close to mildly amusing. Not as good as the Chigaco Pandering joke, but it's an attempt at humor.

i admit i am not overly familiar with olderbudnoweiser's schitck, but i read that as someone taking a jab at conservatives using their own derisive and dismissive one-liner style potshot, however the quality of the post (concise, deadpan, etc. everything kittie said) belies that it was in fact written by someone with 1) a sense of humor and 2) a firm grasp on the sublty and complexity of crafting a good joke. so my take away is we might have a new pocketjapanesemartialartist or mikelol in the mix with that caliber of post. it was a clearly colbertian effort that was carried out so effectively as to make it look effortless, not an example of acual conservative humor (as bmulligan suggests), because as we all know mike and pocket's (and in this case olderbudnoweiser's) shennanigans are cheeky and fun, an actual conservative's shennanigans are tragic and cruel.
