Reads like he was pretty reasonable about it and saying he's decided not to run, then made the dumb and dumber joke himself. I thought he was a joke of a candidate, but don't see anything here to take issue with.

Though it says something about the other options or lack therof that people actually want him to run again. Imagine how bad the democratic field would have had to be in '08 before people wanted Kerry to run again.

When's the last time a former nominee ran again? Adlai Stevenson? That was back when people actually believed the guy they nominated was the best person for the job, even if he didn't win. Now it's too much about what strategists think will play well, and "loser gives it another go" doesn't play well at all.

I always thought that Romney himself was a pretty reasonable dude. The only problem is that he takes the politician label to an extreme and holds no values of his own when it comes to elections. The public Romney is as liberal or conservative as he needs to be.

Yeah, it's absolutely terrible. He keeps granting interviews to people who are going ask him if he's running, and he keeps giving answers that make it sound like he's thinking about it. I have no idea why that keeps happening to the poor guy. He's obviously helpless to stop it.

I'm not saying they are exactly the same.

Kerry I have respect for for both serving in Nam and then coming home and calling BS on the war. Plus his stint as SoS.

Romney was a hypocrite for both protesting war protesters and then evading duty by hanging out in France doing missionary work.

That noted, from a LIV perspective the similarities are pretty glaring.

Romney basically said there is no chance that he will run again in the article and referenced the Dumb and Dumber quote himself.  Not a very good use of the stupid tag, subby.

By the way, I watched the documentary "Mitt" yesterday (free, on youtube) and he actually seemed like a decent guy.  I still wouldn't vote for him, but he definitely came off as someone who was very aware that he was born on third base, and was just grateful that he had the opportunities that he had.  Also, it seemed to me that he was VERY aware that he was going to lose the election way before the day of the election.  I definitely have a better opinion of him after watching that film.

I highly doubt he was the one who did the purchasing.  Maybe, but I don't know.  I am just basing this off of the film.  I DO think that his campaign team was very clueless, but MAYBE it wasn't necessarily because of him personally.  But like I said, I still wouldn't vote for him, and a prime reason I am glad he isn't president is because of the disaster that was his campaign.  But the film makes him seem at least a little bit more human.

You have an excellent point (so did Two Dogs Farking).  Maybe he just didn't want to admit it to himself and let "everyone" down?  If you click the youtube link, and fast forward to the last 10 or so minutes, you might see how I came to my conclusion.  Then again, I am wrong.  It seemed like he had low confidence in his ability to win, and wanted to give a concession speech, but his campaign team kept telling him that it wasn't over, and that Karl Rove told him to hold off.  After this, Romney mentioned that all it was doing was "prolonging the agony".

Ugh, sorry I am not being clear.  I do fault Romney for his campaign.  I mentioned in a different comment that the fact that his campaign was so poorly run showed that he wasn't meant to be a president.  I specifically meant that maybe the very expensive fireworks weren't his idea.

Again, my main point in all of my comments was that he seemed like a decent fellow based on the documentary (non-presidential, but a decent human being).

AS I said in the last thread, and the one before that, MItt isn't running because he doesn't think he can win.  The moment he thinks he can win, he'll be running again.  That's why he has an entire team of political advisers still on staff.
