An ad that plays very, very well to his base ...

2014-08-26 02:27:52 PM
Well, it's not quite this:

www.ithaca.edu

but it's still pretty bad.

Full commercial for those who don't know: Link I think this one was only run once because it caused such an uproar.

Republican campaign strategy: "Booga booga booga!"

It's actually not a bad ad... against Obama. But this is a senatorial campaign.

Yes, that one clip was in poor taste, but swap in any other "black clad terrorist" and the ad is the same.

What makes the Foley video special compared to the other clips in there?  Plenty of people died in the making of this video.

It was run only once (as a paid ad), didn't mention Goldwater by name. Didn't need to. Of course it was replayed for free on the news shows because it caused such an uproar and became news itself. Thanks for posting that. A vital classic.

I remember we watched in one of my political science classes when I was in college. It was fall semester 1992, "Voting Behavior and Public Opinion." The day's lecture was on political ads, and our professor showed this one, and there was dead silence for about fifteen or twenty seconds until it was broken by someone saying, "Holy sh*t." That ad is just brutal.

The first time I watched it was in a class too. Just stunned silence. I still get shivers down my body when the voiceover says "...or we must die." It was definitely brutal. I'm trying to think of a contemporary equivalent and I really can't.

I love the shots of Obama golfing and attending formal dinners.

Republican Presidents never do that shiat.

Yeah, this has added to the recurring theme of "Americans die, and Obama doesn't attend their funerals because he doesn't care".  At least that was the way Foley's funeral was being played on FOX radio.

American being killed overseas:

BUSH years thousands Americans being killed: We are fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here. It means we are more safe!
Obama one guy killed: OMG it means we all are going to die!!!

Not as bad but still pretty bad
Mongiardo was reelected to a redrawn district in 2002 that covers In this campaign Mongiardo argued his opponent Johnnie L. Turner had used images of Mohamed Atta in a television advertisement to compare Atta to him.

I remember when it came on,holy shiat seriously? Lol they're Italian.

If I had to bet whether Republicans would make "Presidents going on vacation and playing golf while something important is going on" an issue, I would have lost.

This is truly beyond the pale.

Stay classy, GOP.

AdamK: man, where were these people when people were getting their heads chopped off by islamofascists from 2001-2008?

This. The thing is there were so many Americans dying then it was hard to make an issue but now it's just a few they can personalize it. It's annoying and illogical but reality.

Their taxes were lower, so they didn't care. Now that they're TEA party libertarians, it matters.

GOP taking a page from Stalinist politics, I see.

Yeah if only we would have kept a few hundred thousand troops in a pointless meat grinder, we might not have had a single journalist beheaded.

Republicans are pants on head potato these days.

Remember this is the same GOP that called it unfair for the names of the US soldiers who died in the Iraq war to even be listed.
