No they haven't while it is obvious the US foreign policy towards Cuba is an utter failure, Fidel Castro has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

/As long as winning Florida is crucial to win the White house the foreign policy will not change.

So are child molesters and rapists and narcissists.  And politicians.

Many years ago a ten-year-old Cuban boy wrote a letter to then President Franklin D. Roosevelt and said that he and his friends had never seen a ten dollar American bill and would the President send them one because they really wanted to see one (Smart kids.)

If Roosevelt had sent the bill, the whole history of the world might be different. The name of that boy was Fidel Castro. He was thinking even at the age of ten. Who knows? With the ten dollars American he might have become a better base ball player and taken up the sport professionally while a student at Chicago University.

But for the want of ten dollars, we will never know how that alternative time line turned out.

Alas, now that Casey Kasim is dead, we will never know the whole story.

I'm not seeing the resemblance.  What constitutes dressing up like Castro?  Shouldn't the kid at least have facial hair and a cigar?  Maybe that happens in the video I couldn't be bothered to watch.

I know I'm gonna get railed even after qualifying this by saying that neither him nor Che Guevera deserve any "romantic" or "legendary" status in history.  They were brutal people, both.

That said, it's not unusual for revolutionaries to have a certain attraction, beyond their own latent charisma, that lasts far longer than the memories of the brutal reality of their revolution.  That's why Che was more easily romanticized.  He endured the revolution, but didn't have anything to do with the aftermath.

As I understand it, Cuba's actually not doing so bad under Raul.  Not to say I understand it especially well.  We developed reverence for our founding fathers here in the USA once our domestic shiat smoothed out a bit.  I don't think this is surprising, in context.  There will probably be a period in the next 50 years while Cubans try and develop a true national identity.  We'll see if the natural reverence for revolutionaries and founders lives through that period.

I may differ with your conclusions, but I always include my Crazy-Cubes in my prayers.

Cubans are funny, musical, athletic, and creative.  Between Fidel and Che, they were shamed and intimidated into the "norm".

Just like what's happening in the U.S.A.

That was Halloween a couple of years ago. IIRC, the kid's mom is a beautician, shaved his head to look like a receded hairline and used some of the glue to make the mustache.
