(Huffington Post)   Remember that mysterious bombing in Libya last week? No? Well we found out who bombed. Egypt and the UAE. The UAE? The UAE has their own bombers? I thought they just catapulted prisoners and had them go "BOOM" when they hit?   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 60

Someone launched an airstrike in another sovereign country and didn't let the US know about it?

Before even reading the article, this isn't unexpected.

Gunmen kill 21 Egyptian military border guards near Libya

Egypt is likely quite sick of the antics of its next-door neighbors.

It's more likely that the UAE chose to bomb Libya with decorator pillows.

As an American, I hope the UAE takes ownership of what's going down in Sunni areas. Qatar and Saudi too, for that matter. Libya and ISIs are their problem too and they don't need our permission to try and fix it.

I'm rather surprised the USA decided to out them, either in an attempt to say "look, we didn't do it", or to give them a slap on the wrists and tell them to knock if off.

and unlike the Kuwaiti's...the UAE will actually use their aircraft for more than desertion.

This is EXACTLY what we should all be hoping for in this region.  Let's stay the F out and let these idiots blast away at each other

Instead the Pentagon, just yesterday, announced that this was "not helpful."

Yes, God forbid anyone get in the way of the US playing world policeman.  Things are MUCH better when we're wasting US tax dollars to do the bidding of AIPAC and the military-industrial complex.

Remember last year when the neocons and defense company CEOs were all insisting we had to invade Syria because it was an existential threat to the US?  How'd that work out?  It's turned into a localized conflict that has no chance of impacting America if we STAY OUT OF IT.  Listen to what these nutcases are saying.  Very few really aspire for world domination.  Most of them just want to kill the guy down the street.  So if you're in Ankara or Tel Aviv or Riyadh, yes be worried.  But if you're in Austin or Tacoma or Rochester-- tell your Congressman to get us the &*%$ out of this region.

Who's with me (and Rand Paul)?

This is a good point.  International cooperation that does not involved the US is even better.  A few of the more stable middle eastern countries are actually well armed with a fairly competent military. It would be awesome to see them take responsibility for policing their own neighborhood for a change.

Well, you know, the UAE does have a LOT of oil. It could be a lose-win proposition. And I'm not saying we won't get our hair mussed...

Given the instability and violence in Libya, if Egypt and UAE want to get involved, that is on them.  Egypt certainly has an interest and UAE apparently wants to put all that money they sunk in training and equipping a modern air force to use. If middle east countries or Europe wants to try and get involved in Libya, have at it.  The US spent a lot of time and money as the Libyan rebel air force and didn't get much of a return on that investment.

well I'd prefer NOBODY fight but if there is going to be a conflict there there is no reason we need to be involved. The people of New Caledonia hate the French. The people of South Sudan hate the Sudanese. The people of Transnistria hate the Romanians. And yet for some reason, we don't seem to feel a need to send American troops off to defend those places (well, maybe a little in the last one). There are conflicts all over the world. Unless they are a three to us, we need to stay out.

So why are we ALWAYS getting dragged into the area between the Mediterranean and the Indus River?  Oil + religious nuts + the corporations that make a fortune on selling military equipment.

That's not who you want driving your foreign policy. You want a sensible, objective, patriot American. Like Rand Paul.

you know, I don't know. But what I DO know is that something in the middle east was experiencing some kind of trouble.  A random thing got blown up by out of towners, and it will likely have unpredictable repercussions down the road that nobody can forsee.  And for just this once, the USA had frak-all to do with it.  I might just make myself a rum and coke tonight.

Brick-House: jso2897: Yes, everything in the whole world is entirely about that black usurper in the White House, and how much you don't like him.

This is not about how much I do not appreciate what Obama is doing to this country, but rather how little the rest of the world respects him and (and I hate using this word) his leadership (or the lack there of). They've just figured out that they need to survive 2 more years until there will once again, be a leader in the White House and that they can count on the US having their back.  That Leader will most likely be Rick Perry!!!

Citation needed about obama's foreign standings.

And not from fox, breitbart, etc.

What about Perry led you to form the conclusion that he'll be better respected internationally than Obama?

/ genuinely curious.
