marius2: Ban Subby.

Okay, okay, I clicked the link.

But you can understand my outrage.

Subby should have gone with the actual headline and gotten some filter pwnage:

I work for a company that caters to a market segment with notoriously short attention spans, and the importance now being placed on "how long a user spends on a linked site before reverting to the default state of existene, i.e. being on Facebook" worries us.

Intuitively it makes sense, but so does just letting people see all their friends' updates in chronological order, and Facebook hasn't been able to get that one right

Does that mean I can start following I farking Love Science again? They had some stuff but over the space of a few weeks they started posting clit 'bate headlines and reposting things. I got tired of it and unfollowed them.

Those headlines you mentioned, the "clit bate" ones, you wouldn't happen to have an example would you, for research purposes?

Now can they ban the profiles that post shiatty captioned pictures grandmom traded on AOL 10 years ago and are archived on Snopes?

Just set "https://www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr " as your default facebook bookmark. It'll display it chronologically.

Not as easy for their mobile app, you actually have to take a few steps to get that feature working, each time.

"click bait" - items that tempt readers with a beguiling headline, but don't deliver much more.

By which Subby means half...at LEAST half TFA greenlit on Fark.

Come on, Drew...institute a little editorial control, will ya? Every once in a while I get so pissed I leave for a while (yeah, yeah...no great loss). There's no shortage of genuinely funny/snarky/stupid shiat to greenlight. There's no excuse for so much click bait. That's just laziness on someone's part.

I do that, and I swear it adds some stupid things in there too. Really hate that it mixes in "Such and such commented on X" when I really don't care because that post is like a month old.

The one weird trick that gets rid of click bait FOREVER? The one program that is making lame websites FURIOUS? Read this and NEVER FALL FOR CLICK BAIT AGAIN?

Come on, subby. You could have done better.

/still not clicking on Facebook

How do I get rid of the posts where someone takes a poll to find out what bird they would be?

To fight this change, we will need to do something drastic.

Quickly, weaponize Rick Astley.  The master of click bait will never let us down!

Uh, I keep telling my non-techie friends to stop clicking on those.  I don't know why they'd do it after they get the app request.

On to Facebook.  I recently most everything that wasn't a person (other than my favorite sports teams).  Why?  Because my news feed was flooded by articles I already read on Ars, Wired, and Gizmodo and I wasn't getting news from actual friends.  I had to go through and start liking friends' posts just to make sure they'd show up in the feed.

A previous switch in its algorithm dried up traffic to some so-called viral sites, which specialize in lists, and in online memes.
