And that's where we got the phrase "dripping with irony".

Just rename it "Drowning Man."

Probably because chemtrails, geoengineering, weather manipulation, and HAARP. Oh, and because climate change, too.

IRONIC?  Why?  Was it someone's wedding day?

I blame it on the rich people who are ruining Burning Man. Rain follows the highbrow.

Prices started at $380 but quickly shot up to well over $1,000 on third-party sites as the festival drew near.

A THOUSAND dollars? What in chocolate-covered fark??

Tickets to Burning Man were hard to come by. Prices started at $380

Wow!  I assumed the price of admission was some canned veggies or something.

I expect a lot of stupiity from media coverage of burning Man but Is it too much to ask that BM's home town newspaper not publish something as blatantly false as: "More recently, the event, where money is supposedly not allowed, has lured Silicon Valley's super-rich, many of whom treat the event as a mixer to network with other wealthy techies."
COMMODIFICATION is not allowed , Commercial transaction on Playa are forbidden
MONEY never has been really is it so  hsard for the writer to take a break from his attempt at mockery to check his facts
and how about he or his editors pretend they are actual journalists and give us a graf or two on WHO decided to close the entrance (blm) and WHY ( lake bed is a flood zone and playa surface is a fine gypsum silt that is dangerously slippery when wet

Yeah I've spoken with a few attendees and there are a lot of impracticalities you don't consider when you see those cool photos. It's a biatch to get near it since it's in the middle of nowhere, it's a biatch to get in and out (one said they spent 12 hours in the car waiting to leave) and it's a biatch to walk around since there's dust flying in your face constantly. Never been so that's all second hand, but never really wanted to go.

The BLM loves to shut Burning Man down because:

1) They get paid anyway AND
2) They get to shut Burning Man down.

/Maybe it's the ghost of Paul Addis.

I've never been so I'll withhold judgment, but from what I've heard I probably wouldn't enjoy the experience.

Also I see no reason to fork over $1000 for an event preaching about self-inclusion when there's a perfectly good hippie joint here that has fun and interesting music festivals on a regular basis, and I don't even go to that one because as much as I like to camp out, it's completely tick-infested.

hey asshat subby...YEA, it does rain in the desert. During the monsoon season, which is when this wanna be hippy, wanna be flower child filled disaster of a so called festival happens, which is just another reason for "hipsters" to go out to where they can get totally farked up on molly and meth and chronic and whatever, and in their farked up minds think that they're somehow channeling the original scene in the 60's...

my rant. you aint gotta like it but here it is.

One thousand dollars.

And here I am having a hard time paying $80 to see one of my favorite bands in a smallish place, close to home. Where I can have a bathroom, and shower even! Take a cab, get shiatty, rock out, cab it home.

I got over the festival thing in 1997 after Warped Tour and Ozzfest. No thanks. Small bar. Good people, cheap drinks. And a toilet for gods sake. Your art cars suck by the way. Art THIS! NNyyeahh!!!

Burning man is not hippies. Burningman is poser douches with fat trust funds. You want the real thing go to a gathering.

While you can't replace the real burning man experience, I've been told by many friends who have gone to burning man that the smaller "regional burns" are much more enjoyable over all. Unless you're a masochist who likes to pay thousands of dollars to spend a week in the desert suffering.

It's not in Arizona -- the summer monsoons you're thinking of rarely appear that far north, or this late in the year.

No lie;  the weather has been pretty odd this year west of the Rockies.

Yes i Know it's not in Arizona,  but this whole geographical region is subject to irrational weather at certain times of the year.

If ever there was something that should be at Black Rock it's speed week. Way more space than at Bonneville and slightly better traction.

whendoing the "dismissive know-it-all" it is helpful to have some idea what you are talking about.  It does indeed rain inthat area during rainy season and the dry lake bed Burning Man is held one goes back to being just a lake bed.   But that happens in February not August
