Hmm.. a drink that tastes like beer but has almost no alcohol. I don't get it.

2004-02-18 11:57:41 AM
I like the taste of beer. I like the alcohol more though.

2004-02-18 12:07:12 PM
Sounds like a job for Crazy Asian Drinks.

2004-02-18 12:17:37 PM
Alcohol-free beer doesn't sell that well, so I'm guessing people aren't drinking beer just for the taste.

2004-02-18 02:09:13 PM
1. Develop new drink
2. Ensure that it still won't be sold to those under age
3. Point??

2004-02-18 02:34:24 PM
Not surprising from the same country that gave us bukkake and schoolgirl-panty vending machines.

2004-02-18 04:02:58 PM
Heh, never saw vending machines like that cscx. What's the point? Unless you're trying to get a co-worker diverced by slipping them in his pocket.

If I wanted a beer tasting drink, I'd have a beer. If I wanted a beer tasting drink without alcohol, I'd have a non-alcoholic beer.

/wtf

Many Asians lack the genes for making enzymes to help process alcohol (lactose, too) It's some form of -erase or something. Maybe this is a niche market.

2004-02-18 05:04:37 PM
Dang...this is a LOT better than my trout flavored soda beverage...

2004-02-18 05:04:44 PM
Well, they better not plan on putting pee pee in my Coke/Beer, or I will punch them in the face, and probably wind up as a fark headline.

2004-02-18 05:05:08 PM
I think a better idea would be Coke flavored beer. For those who don't like the taste of beer.

Personally i like beer flavored beer.

2004-02-18 05:05:15 PM
This isnt cool beer-flavored coke was my girlfreinds best friend, shes been crying all day, Japan was a real person.

2004-02-18 05:05:42 PM
Lisa: So what do you do if someone asks for non-alcoholic beer?
Apu: It has never come up

2004-02-18 05:05:55 PM
Maybe Coke sees Japanese women's love for bukkake and think, "They'll drink anything."

"The carbonated beverage will be called Sky Malt and will be the first of two alcohol-flavored offerings on the way. "

Sky Malt ? Heh, some call Billie Dee Williams' agent, sounds like a gig is available.

Beer flavoured, fine. That makes sense.

However, according to my (somewhat shaky) recollection of a bartending course I took in the mid-90's. Alcohol has no flavour, neither does caffine.

2004-02-18 05:07:48 PM
Beer.....without alcohol? What a cruel joke.

2004-02-18 05:08:10 PM
Japan drains my life force dry

2004-02-18 05:09:37 PM
They are selling Zima in Japan now?

2004-02-18 05:10:09 PM
Nah, I'd rather drink a regular beer.

2004-02-18 05:10:30 PM
GhettoBoxSmash

A bit like american beers then ?

2004-02-18 05:10:52 PM
I wonder if you can get hangovers from beer flavored coke?

2004-02-18 05:11:45 PM
according to my (somewhat shaky) recollection of a bartending course I took in the mid-90's....

Ah yes, bartending "school". Move over, Harvard! It's bartending school: the toughest 90 minutes you'll ever love.

....Alcohol has no flavour, neither does caffine.

Then why does it taste so salty? [realizes what she said, runs out of room, commits suicide, I sweart to god it's a true story, it happened at my friend's brother's school]

This just in, Columbia to start selling Coke flavored Beer in retaliation.

2004-02-18 05:13:03 PM
They already have a beer flavoured drink.

...

...

...

...

BEER!!!

2004-02-18 05:13:07 PM
How come it's not available to people under 20?

2004-02-18 05:14:03 PM

This can only mean one thing. Schwarzenegger goes to Japan, makes commerical, then writes Lost in Translation II: Judgement Day

2004-02-18 05:14:14 PM
What a load of crap. It's like ice cream without the sugar.

2004-02-18 05:14:52 PM
Everything I've ever had caffeinated is quite bitter (highly caffeinated I mean...).

2004-02-18 05:15:12 PM
know what would be cool?
coke with some cocaine in it, mang

2004-02-18 05:15:51 PM
since when are cats and dogs classified as bovine?

2004-02-18 05:16:25 PM
iollow:

Alcohol-free beer doesn't sell that well, so I'm guessing people aren't drinking beer just for the taste.

(a) A proper beer tastes completely different than a no-alcohol beer (e.g. barley soda).
(b) If a beer drinker's only goal was to get drunk, he'd be drinking grain alcohol and tap water.

2004-02-18 05:16:50 PM
Beer-flavored drink?

Wouldn't that be...beer?

2004-02-18 05:16:52 PM
Wow, coke's gonna make 3.2 beer.

2004-02-18 05:19:35 PM
I bought some Japanese Saki flavored candy from that jlist store. I still have some. I have renamed it "Bukkake Candy." Those people will eat anything, so sell em whatever you want...

2004-02-18 05:27:20 PM
Now with extra Ricin goodness!

2004-02-18 05:29:13 PM
The un-beer.

2004-02-18 05:29:14 PM
Hrm, ever hear of O'Doul's?

2004-02-18 05:29:23 PM
Drinking alcohol-free beer is like smoking pencil shavings. All of the yuckiness, none of the benefits.

2004-02-18 05:29:55 PM
I think it's time for a beer flavored drink now.... lessee.... ah, beer! That'll do.

Mmmmmm..... Yuengling....

2004-02-18 05:30:01 PM
Beer, while I thouroughly enjoy it's company, tastes bad. The only reason I put up with the taste is so that I may get smashed. puh-puh-puh-pointless!

2004-02-18 05:44:53 PM
It's like a take on a commercial for 'Splenda' no-calorie sweetener: "It's a new drink that tastes like beer, because it's made from beer...but it's not beer."

2004-02-18 05:50:14 PM
They should sell their recipe to Budweiser and Coors. It would be great if those two beverages actually tasted something like beer.

2004-02-18 05:52:40 PM
mmmm....beer.....

2004-02-18 05:52:56 PM
I recall a drink from way back in the 70's called "Chelsea" or something like that. I think it was beer flavored.

2004-02-18 06:08:58 PM
they had beer flavoured soda in ireland when i was a kid - it was called "shandy" (as in beer and lemonade mixed up) - tasted pretty good - havent seen it on shelves for a few years - but it helped ween us onto the boozing habits you know us for so well..these days i suppose theres smirnoff ice.

in japan the drinking age is 20 but they have vending machines full of booze - if you got id-ed in a convience store you could just pop out to the street - the kids tend to be very responsible though

2004-02-18 06:14:43 PM
Don't we already make something like that?

2004-02-18 06:16:04 PM
Remember near-beer? I'm guessin' it's gonna be just like that, but with the Coke label? That's just bizarre. I don't drink, but usually people drink beer for the alcoholic effects, am I correct in this assumption? Near-beer and O'Doul's never sold well at all and even when they were on the market, you still had to be of age to buy it. I'm not sure if there's a buying and drinking age in Asian countries. But in Germany, I've seen young teens buy alcohol from stores for "their parents".
