Dave is a genius! I lived for Chappelle Show back then. He's one of the few who could (can!) bring me to tears and almost make me pee my pants laughing!
Eddie Murphy when he did stand-up was another. I remember watching "Delirious" on HBO when I was like 13. I think I DID pee my pants that time. That's shiat is STILL hilarious to this day, no matter how many times I watch it!

Well I blame Paul Mooney for that shiat just like he tried to ruin Pryor saying he was playing down to whitey when white college kids made chappelles early career.

No love for the Playa Haters Ball? I love that skit so much, mostly because it is pretty clear that for a lot of it they are just improvising and making up random shiat.

Dog Welder: The Rick James episode will never not be funny.

Watching that the first time, I recall the bit where he first denies the boots on couch incident, then immediately says it's true- I was reaching for the remote to rewind when the show did it for me.

The show was lightning in a bottle- some absolutely brilliant sketches from a great comic and good writers that inevitably would have become watered down garbage as the audience expanded and network execs wanted to push for more ad money.

Yeah, I would definitely put Wayne Brady in the number one slot. It's sad that only Chappelle seems to know what to do with a talent like Wayne Brady. Outside of "Whose Line Is It?" no one in Hollywood seems to know how to showcase his many talents. He was basically wasted in "How I Met Your Mother."

I suspect that part of the reason Chappelle bolted was over-praise. Some of his stuff was extremely funny. Some of it was extremely dull. You'd never know it from the general tone of the response to him. When comics get laughs for walking on stage, they're in a dangerous space for their humor. (c.f. Eddie Izzard).

Racial Draft is #1. Bill Burr as the co-anchor (complete with an almost-under-the-radar lottery joke)? An Elian Gonzalez joke that was stale even at the time, but was still funnier than anything SNL did that month? Dave's White Guy (it still kills me when he says "UnGAwa!" to get silence, and his indignance when the Black Delegation requests Eminem)?

But y'all got the rest of the Top 5 (Rick James, Wayne Brady, reparations, the PBS documentary about the first shiat-in) right.

One of the finest bits that Eddie Murphy did that fit the tone of the Chapelle show was the one where he disguised himself as a white guy for a day.

I can never not laugh when the cashier hands him his money back. "It's OK, take it"
