(Curbed)   Culver City, California slaps down your stone age libertarian worldview by thoughtfully putting up no-parking signs with 15 feet worth of common-sense progressive vehicle-utilization solutions. It's for the children   (la.curbed.com ) divider line

Ahahahahahahaha!!!! I have no idea why this is political but it sure is funny in a kind of tragic way.

This does pose an interesting question, why are libertarians so whiny?

When you build OUT instead of UP, everybody has to have a car. Or two cars. Or five cars. Those signs are the definition of absurdity. Parking is a biatch in every coastal city in California. I also think it's absurd how much water L.A. County uses (also, Phoenix) because everybody has a yard. It's political because California, Arizona, and Nevada are so damned ecologically irresponsible for letting people gobble up every single inch of land.

Oh ffs, it was one sign that's already been mostly removed.

If you don't like such signage, go live in Somalia.

Do you know what it means?

Yeah, I asked a cop once. It means "Up yours, Kid."

By the way, on my list of things that make Culver City a shiathole, these signs do not appear among the top hundred.

It's bad. Therefore, liberals are responsible. Study it out.

Plenty plenty parking here in Mayberry-by-the-Sea (Monterey). Back in the day they understood the Joni Mitchell song to be some sort of instruction manual.

That's well done. Is there a municipality using such well-
designed signs? I must visit, at least.

I couldn't find an explicit prohibition on stacking lots of signs. The rules specify minimum height, not maximum. Speed limit signs shouldn't be stacked more than three high. Parking signs, the sky's the limit.

There is guidance that letters should be at least one inch high per 30 feet of distance they are to be read from.

That is a useful sign. I say we recycle all the personnel and equipment of the parking policy, implementation, and enforcement departments of Washington, D.C. and Culver City, California into that style of sign.

I thought this was going to be about how Culver City put no parking zones where the EV charging stations are.

2014-08-24 03:58:39 PM
That sign would last about 20 minutes around here before the wind blew it over. Hell, a little snow and ice in the winter and the thing would collapse under its own weight.

Culver City use to be a nice quite little pace to live.

Playing on the MGM back lots, dirt biking in Fox Hills and the oil fields.
Watching the planes take and land a Hughs.
Back when Lopez Ranch was a real farm.
It was nice. Not any more.

No-parking signs within 15 feet of....no-parking signs? I only wish Starbucks, McDonald's, and
Walmart were similarly restricted.

DC needs those. There are some places downtown where you pretty much need to use differential calculus to figure out if you can park there or not at a given time. Those signs would make it so much it easier to figure out when you're in a hurry.

Two things that are a pain in the ass to read:

1.That abortion of a sign.
2. This abortion of a headline.
