On one hand, custody agreements blah blah blah.

On the other hand it's the girl's mother.

She might be a bit off the deep end, but it's not like she's a total stranger.

Was Delta informed the father had sole custody? If not, their protocols have them hand the child over to a parent or guardian.

I hope she showered her with taco flavored kisses.

Maybe the parents arranged this deliberately so the dad could get a free flight to Texas.

I wonder if the mom taught the kid to twerk?

Umm technically the kid was accompanied so no refund for you.

Now if it was a "giving your kid to the right person" charge, I can see a refund in order.

DeaH: Was Delta informed the father had sole custody? If not, their protocols have them hand the child over to a parent or guardian.

According to the video Delta had instructions to release the child to the father's relatives. The child's mother was in prison until recently for her involvement in attacking and injuring the little girl's father as well as for kidnapping the child.

Also, Delta admitted they didn't follow policy regarding unaccompanied minors and are investigating.

Custody agreements can be nasty. I had on on my son, his Mom decided to be a real biatch, so I sued for him. She might as well tried to fight with a wet paprer bag. Cost me 2 years and quite a few tthousand dollars, but I prevailed. I hope this guy prevails. Despite being named after cheap itlalin booze. I'm sure his siblings Merlot and Reisling are relived, not to mention his Sister, "Two buck Chuck."

So, where was the person that was SUPPOSED to pick her up when the daughter got off the plane, exactly? Funny how they don't say that the other party was at the gate waiting too, which would make the custody thing pretty obvious to the airline.

..why do I get the feeling this was a trap to humiliate the estranged mother by making her violate a custody order?

The airline says it is conducting an internal investigation to determine how this happened

/My guess would be the daughter saw her mom waiting, ran up, and they left together, without anyone seeing or caring. it's not like one of the pilots or flight attendants would walk to her to the gate with a "dad only" sign. That would mean they were actually trying.

What kind of farking monster would put his unaccompanied 7-y/o daughter on a Delta flight to Houston in August?!?!

2014-08-24 07:19:51 PM
The woman learned her daughter was headed to Houston from her mother, who still communicates with Butler.

Sounds like mother-in-law is part of the problem, too.

2014-08-24 07:28:30 PM
The Dad's first mistake was marrying the psycho.

His second mistake was letting her (the wife's) mother know what flight she (the daughter) was going to be on.

This guy needs to stop talking to his ex M-I-L and go about his own business, as much as I give him credit for wanting to keep them in his kid's life, its been proven her family will jack stuff up.

2014-08-24 07:30:50 PM
This would never have happened with Malaysia airlines. It might happen at a corners office afterwards but never at an airport like this.

2014-08-24 07:35:15 PM
Huge fark-up by Delta, but at the same time I've never understood the whole "Send your kid alone on an aircraft" thing.

//Been on way to many airlines to trust that process.

2014-08-24 07:38:02 PM
While Delta says it has a "thorough unaccompanied minor policy" to ensure the safety of children, the airline somehow turned over the girl to her mother, Jennifer Lopez.

OK, so it wasn't the parent who was supposed to pick the kid up, but you can't blame Delta for...

Lopez, 39, was released from prison in March after serving time for kidnapping her daughter back in 2008. She does not have custody of her Angelina.

Oh... Awkward....

My sister's ex husband----wow. They had a custody agreement that my sister would drop my niece off to her ex husband on Sunday at 6 p.m. The ex husband called my sister and told her that it was okay if she dropped my niece on Monday instead. We begged her not to do it---just drop her off on Sunday. Of course, she didn't listen. When she showed up on Monday to drop off my niece, the father had gone to the police, children's services and the courts. Had her arrested. She spent 11 months in jail for interference with child custody. Lost her job, got four of her teeth knocked out in jail.

Clearly you have no idea how nasty these custody fights can get. NEVER underestimate the power of a vindictive ex in a custody fight. NEVER.

For my kids it who name is on the release slip.  ie  this person is allowed to pick them up.  You have to show a drivers license.  This happens for all airlines my kids fly.

Seeing as this woman went to jail for kidnapping her own daughter it's quite a stretch to assume some clever ploy to cause her to violate a custody order since you know usually when they are at the sending people to jail stage custody has already been established.  Then again he is the one with the penis so.....

Me too, but how was the airline supposed to know a 7 year old's whole history? I mean it's the mother... That's all a 3rd party is really going to know, and 99.9% of the time that's all they need to know.

I think this one is on the dad for several reasons. For one - stop giving the mother of the woman who abused your child the kid's travel itinerary. She doesn't need to know that shiat, and it's begging for the exact kind of trouble that just happened. That seems reckless to me.

I've sent my kids solo several times; never a problem. This is one of those things where it's only when there's a fark-up does it make the news. Thousands of kids fly solo every day without incident.

Still, the times I've done there have been explicit people listed who are authorized to pick up the kid. If you ain't one of those people, you don't get the kid. So yes, Delta farked up, but I wouldn't consider it an indictment on the entire unaccompanied minor system.

Indeed. The vast majority of total strangers, if the found themselves suddenly with an unknown child in tow, would endeavor to get the kid back to their rightful families ASAP. Total strangers get a serious bum rap in modern society. My mantra is: a stranger is just a friend you haven't yet met.
