There are only 2 viable methods.

1.  Have health insurance
2.  Just don't pay them.  At all.  Ever.

Thankfully I fall into the first category, but should I ever find myself without insurance, they'll never see a penny.

6.  Medical tourism.  It's a real biatch to arrange that plane flight to Sweden when you have acute appendicitis.  But if you make it, the ticket is 20x cheaper than the US medical bill would be.

It's 5 ways to pass the cost to others.  There is no way to reduce the money hospitals get short of ruining your credit (filing for bankruptcy or caving to collection agencies).  the cash option works but if you had problems paying it anyway you damn sure dont have the cash for the reduced amount anyway.

If you are at a party, clean out their bathroom drawers and medicine cabinet. Chances are that they will blame it all on "that guy" instead of you.

Yes, you ARE a Rocket Scientist.  it's just that corporate 'murica/government doesn't know it.  they're too busy chasing wall stroke and placating their stock owners.

So much for that whole 'get an advanced degree to be more employable' idea!)   ---they didn't tell you that you have to live overseas and work for 1/4th the wages (or less) to be employed in this country.

2014-08-24 08:52:19 PM
Well, not getting Ebola is still a good idea. I have it on my list of things not to get, along with cancer, tuberculosis, and HIV.

2014-08-24 11:39:09 PM
Three things also absent from the list:

1. Eating higher quality and carefully measured meals.
2. Get into good exercise routine, preferably with a good professional trainer.
3. Avoid doing dumb crap like this...

Even with insurance there are things you can do to save a few bucks.

Prescription drugs usually have a co-pay.  If your doctor prescribes a fairly common drug, often it is available from some of the discount pharmacies for less than your co-pay however many people don't realize this and still pay the $10, $15. or even $20 copay on a drug that would cost $4-$5.00 at Walmart or Kroger.

6. Buy your drugs from overseas pharmacies.

My husband's $820 asthma meds (3 month supply - WITH insurance) were only $120 this way.

1) Only go see someone when the pain is unbearable.

After you've
A) Spent considerable time defining unbearable.
B) Spent considerable time deciding if unbearable is actually better than the solution.
C) Decided whether or not the pain fading is because you're getting better or because you're dying.

IIRC, the inability to pay medical bills is the most popular reason for filing personal banruptcy.
