But Brave was horrible, and Pixar should be ashamed. Much like Cars.

Loake shoes (£ 265) and Crombie coats (£ 795 or £ 3000 if you want it custom tailored) are seeing an increase on the other hand.

I'm tempted to get the shoes. I love the coat as well, but my wallet isn't bigger on the inside.

It takes great physical strength and years of practice to become lethal with a longbow. Odds a against brits putting that much effort into it.
It's also really tricky to carry concealed.

Long bows are military weapons meant for massed volley fire. I don't think its really the best thing for target shooting or hunting. I want a Japanese yumi though just because they're gorgeous

I guess it depends on the distance.  Longbows are the most pleasurable bows to shoot and all around easiest to deal with outside of having to actually pull the real draw weight unlike evil compound bows (is it too much to call them the ARs of the archery world)....not terribly difficult to be deadly with one inside of 20-30 yards.  I'll agree they're definitely not the most concealable weapons out there :)

I think you have longbows confused with smoothbore muzzle loaders.  The biggest issue with bows is the time it takes to train a good archer (months to years) compared to a firearms user (weeks to months).

But completely agree about the Japanese war bows.  Amazing craftsmanship.

same concept.  You can't really aim when you're in a block of a couple hundred dudes trying to kill another block of a couple hundred dudes you just go for the right distance as opposed to singling out targets, but the bows were almost an indirect fire  area weapon as opposed to the muskets.

I love the English longbow. It basically allowed a commoner type to waste some lord on a horse in armor. Really farked with the balance of power on the battlefield.

When the French would capture English longbowmen they would sometimes cut off their top two fingers on their drawing hand so they would be useless in a fight afterwords.

Some say that the English version of flipping the bird with two fingers originated as a taunt to the French. Not sure how true that is but I enjoy believing it might be.

And yeah, Clara looks pretty good in her Sherwood Forest duds.

It's not really an optimal close combat weapon though. I'm no combateer, but at 20 yards I'd say the odds are about 50/50 that before you get an arrow out of your quiver and into his chest, he'll simply run up to you and kick you square in the nuts. Although, at that point, you could probably stab him with the arrow, so maybe I'm wrong.

I'm not saying it's not a cool weapon, I'm saying that there is probably no need to worry about a spate of bow related deaths.

lol no argument with you there...it's more of a "Hold on while I whip this out" type of affair.  I was speaking from a more general perspective in terms of their being lethal and not all that hard to adequately operate at closer ranges.  Though they're a bit of a PITA in the woods a lot of people hunt with them and imho among the various types (recurves, horse bows, compounds, etc.) they have the absolutely smoothest draw and release.

quatchi: I love the English longbow. It basically allowed a commoner type to waste some lord on a horse in armor. Really farked with the balance of power on the battlefield.

Except longbows were expensive and required expertise to manufacture, and were not allowed in commoners hands. There's a reason that revolting peasants were usually armed with farm implements. Actual longbowmen were higly valued specialists trained from childhood.
Also, the average commoner had heard enough sermons on Romans 13 to know that wasting a lord on a horse would send him straight to Hell.
