We're gonna need a bigger gerrymander.

Smart moves, kids. I applaud you.

Californians are moving to be closer to their water. This should have all kinds of benefits not only to those who retire to Nevada and Colorado but those left behind. If nothing else, moving upstream reduces the evaporation on the way to the Pacific. Let your freak floods flow to the farmers. You get dibs on the water if there are enough of you with votes and money.

New Yorkers who move to North Carolina and Virginia can not only swing those states toward True Blue but also get the Florida climate without the Florida and with fewer fire ants and alligators. Global warming should make this a wise move not only for retirees but young people with families.

And it has always been natural for people in New York and Massachusetts to colonize New England'sb sparser northern reaches such as New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, and even Nova Scotia.

All in all these are quite natural and healthy moves that may help save the US from the worst outcomes of climate change and political gridlock and reaction.

Also, taxes are lower and housing is cheaper. Nothing like a bunch of New Yorkers moving in to fix both of those economic problems and spur government spending and homeowner spending alike.

And to think South Park was worried about the South Shore spreading like an Orange Plague.

The more conservative voters tend to be older too, so demographics are going to suck for the GOP.

They're slowly making Arizona slightly less bat-shiat. Now we need the generation of blue-haired midwesterners to FOAD.

The NY list in the article isn't exactly shocking.  Every one of those places is on I-95, and five of them share a border with NY.  And some of those states are within commuting distance of NYC.

Dear New Yorkers,

Stop moving to Virginia, your driving skills are unacceptable. You're not as bad as Pennsylvania, but you are worse than Maryland.

Sincerely,

Virginia

It's human nature to turn your own home into a cesspool then move on to a new place...to turn into a cesspool. Make them stay in their own cesspool they created.

Cesspool? We have healthcare. Our premiums are going down while yours go up

Yes, please move out of California.  The rent is too damn high.

Yes California is terrible. Please move somewhere else. Thanks.

same with MA. home prices in NH are generally significantly lower than MA and the highways make commuting doable (if unpleasant.) Given the rise of remote work within the tech heavy industries around boston though, its not the burden it was even a decade ago. if you're only going into the office once every few weeks, it might make sense to buy somewhere further away to get something bigger and cheaper

Pennsylvanians aren't bad drivers. They're just used to driving on Pennsylvania roads.

Yeah, no shiat Sherlock. I chuckle every time I see a Cali or Texas plated SUV in a ditch during a minor snow. Slow down dumbasses.

As much as we joke about the Containment Area for Relocated Yankees, having a long-term northern influx has made NC significantly less retarded than most southern states.

Trash of the Titans.

The NYers move out here and complain that the farm they live next to use manure as fertilizer.

You've got to be farking joking.  I lived in VA for years (I got better) and got to see first hand what happens in VA when it snows.  I've never seen a bigger passel of idiots- folks unable to handle a simple skid, people who thought AWD meant you could fly down hills, people who didn't understand you actually had to lock your differential on a 4WD, etc, etc etc.

Couple that with the insane DC beltway traffic and Virginians count as the second worst drivers I've ever had to deal with.

/Los Angeles is worse.  They can't deal with rain, much less snow.

Fine by me. But they're not going to change the minds of derpers who are already planning to elect more Republicans to the House and enough to take the Senate this November.

Prove me wrong.

SmartestGuyHear: the CA part I get but why would you leave NY?

It depends.  The NYC-metro area is expensive, commutes usually suck, and you don't get much space for your money compared to other places.  Aside from the NYC-metro area, lots of New York State is rural or crime-ridden, with poor employment prospects.  People who don't realize the 80s and 90s were a long time ago think New York City is dangerous.  Those who know better would rather walk through Bed Stuy at night rather than Newburgh in the daytime.

I'm a liberal Yankee who has lived in NC and VA. Got to vote for Obama in both states (NC: 2008 and VA: 2012). Now I'm going to help screw up the politics in AZ when I move to Flagstaff in October.

Tucson or Phoenix?

Tucson's actually pretty humane. PHX, on the other hand, seriously believes they can water their lawns to prosperity. The place will be first against the wall when the water runs dry.

Yeah whatever. I'm as libby lib as one gets here at Fark and that shiat ain't dying off.

You can safely bet it's being already being dysfunctionally handed down to the next generation that's supposed to be so "progressive."

2014-08-23 05:39:48 PM
This surprises me. New Yorkers have an enormously unwarranted attitude about how great it is and how the flyover states are all shiat kickin hicks. They even have a snobby attitude towards upstate NY.

It is big corporations moving to places where they can make a profit. Unfortunately, they bring all their lib employees with them.

Ugh. Carpetbaggers. Move down here and spend the rest of their lives biatching about how much better it is in the place they moved from and wouldn't dream of moving back there.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. People don't move to those states much.
