Breakfast coffee is the most important meal of the day.

I've found that all the supposed benefits of a full breakfast are cancelled out by getting the drowsies.

I just eat an apple or orange or something of that nature and feel so much better.  Plus it's easy to eat on the move.

2014-08-23 03:21:39 PM
I wake up bright and early every morning and sit down to a nice hot home-cooked breakfast of 3 flapjacks, 2 slices French toast, fresh real Maine maple syrup, 3 pieces crispy thick-cut applewood glazed bacon, and a bowl of steal cut oats with cinnamon and brown sugar, washed down by a big glass of apple cider.

I then promptly waddle over to the couch and hope I land somewhat comfortably before I pass out into a carb coma for the next 6 hours.

Eating a big breakfast was probably more important back when people woke before dawn to milk the cows or toil in the factories or whatever; there's less physical labour and better nutrition (or at least more calories - YMMV) www.cultsoup.comthan ever, so yeah - eat when you're hungry, unless you want to end up like the humans in Wall-E.

Food doesn't sound like a good idea that early in the morning. I'm just not hungry.

And I really like food.

Better question is what to have for breakfast. IPA, lager, maybe an oatmeal stout.

Kind of pointless for me to eat breakfast if it cmes back up within 10 minutes. I'll stick with brunch or lunch for first meal.

Just the smell of food in the morning has made me nauseous since I was a preteen. I get that joy from mom.

I firmly believe that everyone should eat a nutritious breakfast every day. Or don't, I really don't care.

I can live without breakfast, but can't live without coffee.   Though I usually have to chug a Red Bull or two before I'm awake enough to make my first coffee.

/breakfast = morning-long nausea for me

this nonsense again. even worse, the Atlantic is just re-gifting the NYP article.

i was never raised to think a big breakfast had anything to do with weight loss or diets.  it was about being awake and alert at work/school.  and 'big' meant equal parts healthy and filling, not just what people see at Denny's or the greasy crap served at fast food places.

and this was perpetuated when society still had the notion of a 'normal daily schedule'.  3 meals a day isn't considered the norm for urbanites/big city folk.  It is still prevalent in small town America but big city folk cant be bothered with normalcy.  farmers and laborers still need a big breakfast but the rest of America has convenienced itself so much it hardly needs anything.

big pig peaches: Better question is what to have for breakfast. IPA, lager, maybe an oatmeal stout.

Terrapin Cinnamon Roll'd Wake-N-Bake Oatmeal Imperial Stout or the far more accessible Founders Breakfast Stout. Has to have the oatmeal as part of the texture primarily rather than leading the flavor profile and nixing a significant amount of the coffee and cocoa. Also have tried Rogue Dirtoir Black Lager for a late morning sausage and egg breakfast on a weekend. Only a few beers strike you as being a good choice for getting started.

Breakfast is for lawn jockeys and day laborers. Everyone else just needs coffee.

2014-08-23 03:52:57 PM
I do better over the course of the day when I have a decent breakfast that is mostly veg and/or protein (let's face it, it's usually a protein shake necked with the vitamins, not a real meal) - I end up eating less at lunch, which means I'm not sleepy afterwards, and eat it later, so I'm less tempted to grab food on the way home and eat more home-cooked dinners.

If all these things weren't true, I'd never do it. Simply am not hungry in the morning unless I was doing heavy labor the day before.

/tl;dr the heavily militarized breakfast police are coming for your poor choices, citizen

Most farkers don't eat breakfast because they don't wake up until noon.

I grew up with a hearty breakfast every morning. Generally...

- sheep brains fried with eggs (plus cumin)
- organic wheat bran pancakes with a crapload of home churned butter and honey
- a pallet of petit suisse (French organic yogurt)
- cream of wheat with loads of home churned butter.
- Muesli mix (oats, nuts, yogurt plus fruit and honey)

Plus Alvityl. Lots of Alvityl.

Can't drink the stuff, caffeine allergy. Need my eggs, meat and taters in the morning.

Usually I'm pretty farking hungry when I wake up. Going 10 hours without food does that to me, even when I'm asleep for 7 or 8 of them. Coffee or not, it's hard for me to function in the morning without enough food.

Unless mom is vacuuming. Then the sound just gets amplified in the basement.

Personally, I've found nothing ramps up my metabolism like training early in the morning, then having a huge-ass breakfast* with a mug or two of black coffee.
I've honestly gotten comments about losing weight just after a solid week of doing that.

Problem is that I'm not a morning person and regardless of how much I enjoyed that and getting the results, couldn't stick with it.

Hoping things will change now as part of my midlife crisis and the activities I'm getting involved in.

Pffft, amateur. Russians drink bacon mugs of Vodka (because f*ck capitalist melted cheese) simply to down all the caviar. And only because they haven't found a way to wrap bacon around caviar. At least not yet.

"proposed effect of breakfast on obesity," or the PEBO.

There is also the "found effect of breakfast on obesity" or FEBO. A positive correlation was found connecting eating at the FEBO every morning and weight gain.

I've been saying the same with eating three meals a day in general. I think it's far too much for many adults, especially with the average portion sizes. Most people simply won't burn it off unless they're doing the kind of labor you referred to.

ginandbacon: Maybe we should eat when we're hungry?

Nah, we evolved in a condition of scarcity so that most of us are hungrier than we need to be in a condition of overabundance.  So it behooves most of us to hold off a little.

On the other hand, not eating when we're not hungry is a good idea.

/almost never eats breakfast, some days eats a morning snack though

Another one I would like to see go is this.

I have been eating less for weeks but I have stopped losing weight.

Well you need to eat more

I am gaining weght

That's because your eating more.

If you find you are not losing weight perhaps you are at your right weight.

Perhaps you should stop focusing on your weight and focus instead on your percentage of fat.

But if you believe it is your metabolism do not eat more.   Do this trick..  take a little bit of your meal and put it aside.   Then have that little bit later.   For example if you have an apple with  your lunch do not have it with your lunch but 2.5 hours later.

You are then eating the same amount of calories through the day but giving your body a little bit of food at  more regular basis.

2014-08-23 08:57:30 PM
I always ate breakfast back in the good ole days as a cube dweller and packed on about 40 lbs because I was grouchy and tired without it and felt like I couldn't focus.  Now that I'm doing light to medium duty labor in a factory every day, I find myself less interested in breakfast and much more keenly interested in coffee, but by the time lunch hits, I will eat anything that doesn't eat me first and stands still long enough.  Dinner's worse.

/lost around 25 lbs in 4 months using this one weird trick of not sitting on my ass all day, every day
