Nothing is getting reformed in this congress, you should know that.

2014-08-23 08:36:18 AM
About like the reform of banking laws, so that we don't have a repeat of 2008?

Is that a trick question?

2014-08-23 09:32:34 AM
Why do you hate free speech, subby?

2014-08-23 09:54:54 AM
So Soros gave $1 million and the Kochs spent...well we won't know until an army of investigative reporters can dig through tax records and such to estimate the amount of undisclosed dark money spending, but in 2012 it was over $400 million.

2014-08-23 10:30:18 AM
Uh it got gutted awhile back with a certain Supreme Court ruling.

But SOROS!!!!!!11111

Just remember kids, corporations are people and their limitless campaign contributions are an expression of their free speech rights.  George Soros has no such rights.

Corporations have all the speech and religious rights of people but with limited liability

Its like bizarro world

2014-08-23 10:42:53 AM
I'm going to guess it's working out great for the politicians and lobbyists who are getting rich from it.

2014-08-23 10:47:05 AM
You mean the campaign finance reform that was eliminated by the Republican Supreme Court justices?

Capitalist when things are going well, Socialist when profits drop.  Why does the same attitude about civil rights surprise you?

Hey America, who I love so much (40%+/-clueless biatch). meet your new overlord, AGAIN!. Now working diligently at the county and even small town local politics level. All of a sudden around here in very rural New Hampshire there are 1000s of lawn signs supporting complete nobodies, who are all GOPers and the vast majority of them are complete dunderheads. These nobodies are being bankrolled far beyond what the local GOP can muster, so one has to CONclude that it is huge amounts of outside money sloshing around in small town politics like so much bilge water in a leaky ship.  media.salon.com

No Sheldon Adleson, no Koch brothers????

Sounds completely unbiased to me.

Don't fret, the Supreme Court will overturn all campaign finance limits, in the name of freedom from our founding fathers of course.

Of course ignoring the fact that it was a criminal offense for a company to give money to a candidate.

Now, not only is it legal, it's constitutional.

Freedom!

We're where we are because we let our politics polarize into a binary where both parties are happy to fark us over and can keep doing it because we're too stupid to see thru their "message".  They know most Americans can only focus on the polarizing issues that keep us divided and willingly ignore what we don't like about the party we vote for because that other party might win if we don't keep voting for the "good guys" in our party.

Keep voting D and R, incumbency is at an all time high for both parties via gerrymandering.  They have built the perfect system and they know it.  Yes, BSAB so don't vote for either of them.

Oh look who's here. Both Sides are Bad so don't vote and then go whine about it on the Internet.

That'll fix things.

Someone should start a kickstarter project to give the Koch brothers asshole cancer of the most painful kind. Something that rots their ass and needs to be aired out so they cannot wear pants and they have to walk around bent over cheeks spread. That would make me smile.

They would become a living sculpture to their own contribution to America.

I'd give $10

There's still plenty of conservative money out there; it's just that more of it is going toward nonprofits, which don't have to disclose their donors.

So let's just forget about all those, shall we?  There's journalism to be done!

Until you change the voting methods, a third party is not going to be viable.  I don't care how much ground-level activism you engage in, the current first-past-the-post system gives the two established parties an insurmountable advantage.

/And having a third party that isn't tinfoil-on-head retarded would help significantly.

For conservatives, it is the only way of contributing without fear of a liberal boycott. Can you imagine what would happen to Chic-fil-A if one of the owners were to be found contributing to a conservative cause, a boycott could drive them out of business.

That is true for all political theories. Forty years ago the Chinese police were arresting people for manufacturing and selling stuff out of their apartments until they discovered all their most industrious people were all in jail.

1. You Can't Fix Stupid.

2. You Can't Fix What People Like Broken.

Possible Corollary: People tolerating broken while not profiting from it is a likely symptom (if not leading indicator) of stupid.

B-B-B-B-But KOCH BROTHERS!!!! Therefore any criticism of Democrats is invalid. As long as I can convince myself that the other side is worse, nothing that my party does is wrong. WHEW! For a second there I thought that maybe the Democrats weren't the heroes of the little guy, but just another bought-and-paid-for corporate party. Thank Science that I have this lovely little left-wing echo chamber to reinforce my blind faith in a party that cares just as little about me as the Republicans. Both sides are bad, so vote Democrat!!

Now, quick: post a bunch of stuff about how bad Republicans are so that I don't have to think about how bad the Democrats are. You can do it Fark, I have faith in you!!

Hey... you know something? There is another options besides your pointless Monstertruck Sarcasm Rally. There is, in theory at least, the possibility of actual reform.

media.boingboing.net

Go to this site, watch the Larry Lessig video and listen to what he has to say.

Maybe you won't like it the strategy, like the fact that it supports pro-reform candidates from both parties. Or you'll just throw up your hands and say nothing can ever get crony-capitalism out of politics, but frankly I believe that until something is done, nothing else that happens in American Democracy can make any difference.

I've put my money where my mouth is. You should consider doing the same.
