Finally!  I hate how BBC has short seasons and most of a year between seasons.  I could have gotten pregnant and had a baby in the time since the last Dr Who.

I'm looking forward to it. I saw the leaked screener copy last month, looked like good stuff to me. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the New Who fanbase now that the Doctor is back to being old and weird-looking like he should be.

I don't know I think Capaldi is kind of hot.  But I usually think that of scotsmen.

We'll go with Twelve. The War Doctor is an outlier and Ten's non-regeneration just made him Ten.5.

What the hell kind of stupid filter blocks out the number between fourteen and sixteen?

2014-08-23 10:28:33 AM
It is offically 12, so sayeth the official Doctor Who twitter feed after I did the count that should make Capaldi 14.

So it's 12.

It was a full regeneration, but he kept the same face. That's why in Time of The Doctor 11 calls himself 13....and it doesn't matter regardless

Question...
I've never watched a minute of the show, but I've always been intrigued. Would tonight be a good "why not" kinda time to just jump on in?

It would be the perfect time. Regeneration is perfect because they will actually point out some stuff and explain other parts. The Doctor is basically figuring everything out anew.

But really any time is a good time. One of the nice things about Doctor Who is that there is stuff there for long time fans. Little jokes, sayings and tools from the past. But you really don't need that stuff to understand the show. My wife only watches if the place or story line interests her. I'd say she only watches one in three.

This would be a perfect time to start watching because a new story arc will be starting.

BBCA crashed (at least here) for a couple of hours last night. If it happens tonight, my head will be all asplodey. I'm thinking I should have sucked it up and bought theater tickets, but too late now.

This new doctor sucks and completely ruins the show for me. The previous doctor was so much better.

I want to see Capaldi meet Captain Jack.

Re-reading the Fark thread for the 50th Anniversary. The preshow is already a win because of Hardwick.

Well that was interesting. I'm going to watch it again but pretty good overall. It does seem to be taking a bit a different turn this season...

Those who saw it on the BBC say PC knocks it out of the park. And, in another vote of confidence, Tom Baker (according to a post on FB) gave him major props.

It's like there's some rule now that Hardwick must host ALL THE THINGS.  Although he certainly is better than average with it. The host for the Bates Motel after show was terrible and Wheaton hosting the Orphan Black special was pretty bad, too.

Are there any plans for another season of Nerdist on BBCA. I kinda liked it.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not going to spoil it, but all I'll say is that the last 10 minutes really sealed it. I wasn't sure if I liked him before that.

I was also reminded of the pre-show host for the 50th. She was horrible.

I'm sure there's fanfic somewhere that makes The Traveler out to be some future regeneration of the Doctor.

I definitely saw shades of Baker, and I think Capaldi may end up being the best Doctor ever.

I don't mind a Doctor change. It is the companions that I really love!

With Capaldi now starring, how long until we get Craig Ferguson guest starring in an episode?  I want to see that so much.

Yay! Doctor Who pre-show started. Will Wheaton looks extra young tonight...if I worked at a beer store, I'd card him. That Chris guy is cute but they sure are rushing him.

Why no female Who fan hosts/guests, BBCA?

So think they'll squeeze in another minute of breaks?

Agreed. New doctor so it's going to have a different feel than previous seasons.

Otherwise start with the first season of the new batch, skip the Donna Noble episodes (with the exception of the two Library episodes), and pick it back up when the Ponds join the show.

I liked the Donna episodes. It was at least a nice change of pace from a companion pining after the Doctor.

Agreed but they picked her for looks not for her skill, personality or Who fandom. Sadly very common for producers to do this on TV.

I saw it earlier on BBC One. Great episode, enjoy if you haven't yet seen it.

Also, am I the only person who noticed a real semblance between "Missy" (Michelle Gomez) and Kata O'Mara?
