Seems like a lot of work. Steal something light and expensive, pawn it and get your own sod.

Carrying at the waist like that can lead to a bad case of turf toe.

So the way the camera was panning back & forth the neighbor had to have been watching it live.  Why couldn't he call the neighbor/police to go outside & ask them to stop/drive up & say 'what's all this then'.  If it took 40 min to complete, even the slowest police dept had enough time to respond.  Very strange.

/probably should check & see if the neighbor has a 2nd house with a new lawn just to be sure

Get off with my lawn

Sod off!!!  Literally and figuratively.

I've never done it, but I often have a strong urge to steal freshly laid sod. I have no idea why. It's not like I'm a kleptomaniac or anything, but there's just something about those alluring squares of grass.

They were polaks. They heard on the news that you can get $100s for a pound of grass.

When I was young, my friend and I were sitting on my front porch watching city workers take half the damn day to lay down grass in a small 15x20 patch on the side of a building. As soon as they left, we both went over, rolled it back up and put it back on the pallet they took it off of. Next day was hilarious!

/why yes, alcohol was involved, why do you ask?

Look again, particularly when the timestamp is visible. Looks to me like someone decided to use the "point a camera at a screen" method of copying a video.

When I was a stupid kid working construction, this happened several times. The sodding crew would come in after pretty much everything but the kitchen cabinets and such were finished, and then someone would come in the next weekend and swipe the whole thing. I saw an entire rural Japanese style garden disappear once after the customer had spent weeks with a landscaper planning it out. That was about $100,000 worth of stuff, including the pumps that kept the Koi pond flowing. I don't think anyone ever got caught.

Folks will swipe anything.

I got caught stealing once when I was five.

I enjoy stealing.

This probably happens in a lot of cities but in Boston I read articles about plants left growing outside someone's windowsill getting stolen.

Seems like a pretty lucrative crime. Since a woman is involved she'll probably just screw it up though. Women are only good for cooking and making babies.

(I've been testing the waters on this new Fark censorship policy for a couple of days and haven't found the breaking point yet. Is it rape jokes? Because I'm not really comfortable with those but if that's what it takes to make a statement I'll do it. "Why did the rape victim cross the road? To go shoe shopping." Is that enough? Will that do it?)

Spring for 1080p and/or an optical zoom, and you might even be able to recognize people in the footage.

Why waste money on that when they can just enhance it at the state-of-the-art, futuristic looking crime lab?

Wrong.  just farking wrong.  The rape victim crossed the road because it learned its lesson and was on its way back to the kitchen.

/only lending your experiment some constructive criticism
/note the gender-neutral wording

Misogyny is the hatred of women.  A shoe joke may be a common stereotype, but it's not degrading.

I remember this in a episode of Dragnet, I think it was the one where the widow pawned all of her jade then reported it stolen. Friday figured it out and busted her with One Adam Twelve. Right before the credits ran a call came out from dispatch "Attention all units: Be on the lookout for a large lawn, last seen in Beverly Hills." Duh-da-dun...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there was a healthy sense of disbelief all around.

I'm guessing the thieves were Brazilian women, as they were skilled at removing grass from the front lawn.

Pieces of sod are usually rectangular but we get what you mean.

Bullshiat.

So obviously set up. Automatic panning camera ? oh come off it.

Mind you I bet they have made a decent amount of the film.

The security camera isn't panning, it's being recorded by hand off of a monitor. If you watch closely in the beginning you can see the side of it.
