This happens a lot. Especially in volunteer FDs that need to justify their existence. Why they can't just have fish fries and ice bucket challenges to pass the time is beyond me.

"Two days after she started the fire, Johnson posted on her Facebook page: "like my fire?""

You know that it would be untrue, you know that I would be a liar, if I was to say to you, girl you're stupidity couldn't be more dire.

C'mon baby, "Like" my fire...

I've had more than one firefighter admit to me that fires in Alaska are such good money that firefighters have begun to count on a robust fire season for a significant portion of their yearly income. So, if there aren't many naturally caused giant fires in a summer, you can guarantee that shiat loads are started by firefighters looking at their dwindling bank accounts.  Fortunately, this year has been too wet for even very much of that shiat.

Just like all the arson fires Flint had when the city decided to layoff many firefighters, to get them back to work.

I'm thinking more like forest firefighting companies that bid their services to the gubmint and don't make any money unless their  services are needed.  "Boredom" = "unemployed".

That's ridiculous. Who'd ever pay $7 million for a fire?

Damnit! I came in here to say "I bet it was a volunteer", but it's already been done.

It's not to justify their existence. 70% of the US has a VFD because they can't afford a full time department. Usually it's out of greed (paid per call, per hour on call type departments) or out of psychiatric pathology (Munchousen syndrome, Hero Worship syndrome, or good old fashion arson).

I'll see if I can find it, but Firehouse magazine did a good article on this a few years back, basically pointing out how lax standards and lack of psychological hire screening are reasons why these people get on volunteer departments so easily.

She faces up to five years in prison, a fine of £150,000 and three years of supervised release.

Might as well make the fine $10 trillion, I don't think it's going to be paid either way.

Every firefighter I have known out west is hired just for the "fire season"--about June to October-- and that is true for every one of them.

/It's farking pouring out here right now. All you guys can go home for the year. Sorry.

You know you're a chick when you can look at a row of women in bright red bras and all you can think of is how horrible the fit is.

Oh, just to be clear--the people hired as seasonal firefighters of course get paid for an entire season, regardless of whether they're fighting fires or sitting around doing inventory. But when they're out fighting fires, they get bumped up to hazard pay, plus a per diem, and their pay about triples. So they really like to be out there actually doing something.

Some of these ladies don't look too bored...looks like some have been hittin' the weight training equipment on a regular basis.

And a lot a women firefighters and paramedics really do look like this...I have worked with quite a few.

I thought that it was generally well known that a large percentage of firefighters are also pyromaniacs.

Much like a large percentage of Boy Scout troop leaders and Catholic priests are pedophiles.  People are attracted to certain professions for many many reasons.  Most of those reasons are pretty farking obvious.
